Thanks for the chip post and the kind words. Yes, this thread has taken quite a ride.

Quote: Doc (in the first paragraph of the first post of this thread)

Inspired by the Wizard's Spanish-Word-of-the-Day thread, I have been considering a similar-but-different thread topic, which I begin with this post. I think that like the Wizard's thread, this has the potential to generate a fairly large number of interesting and related posts over an extended period.

At the time, my collection consisted of chips from 285 casinos, so I was confident that (barring boredom or something) the thread would reach that level. I didn't even know then about the chip-collecting addictions of rdw4potus, PokerGrinder, Konbu, and others. I appreciate all of the support this thread has received from collectors, observers, and even the admins.

I suggest that we consider the next chip posted here as representing the first of our second thousand casinos!

Lol possibly. I am currently sick as a dog again. I never get sick and now this is twice in 3 weeks. I even cut my poker session short last night cause I was feeling like crap.

I will try and post later today.

(Yeah anyway, folks, I think PG is telling some wild tale about being sick, just to get me off his back. We can probably figure that if he left the poker table early, it was because the cards had not been nice.)

So I visited Mexico City last week and collected my very first green chip! at Royal Yak casino.

I also decided to write (more like ramble, sorry) a little more about the games they now offer. Please read here:

Well just in case you thought I was faking illness I slept for 16.5 hours. This is slightly higher than my usual amount of sleep I would say lol. I was going to post today's chip of the day but Imgur is currently down which means I don't have access to my pictures. I will try again later tonight.

City: Macau, Macau
Casino: StarWorld

I am blaming the lack of a chip posting yesterday on the Imgur site. No picture access meant I couldn't post.

Today's chip of the day is from StarWorld Casino in Macau, Macau. This is one of the bigger and more beautiful casinos in the main area of Macau which houses a lot of the smaller casinos. We had planned to play poker here but sadly they recently closed their room, I guess us playing poker at StarWorld just wasn't in the cards... yes a terrible pun... sorry. We ended up at a $300 HKD minimum baccarat table. We harvested our chips to keep and then played a few hands. We lost the first two hands which left us with $335 HKD and I said to Eric we are going to parlay into three wins. We bet banker three straight hands and three straight hands we won! If my math is correct we were left with $2680 in chips which we cashed out and then split up the money. A nice little win seeing as we almost lost our $1000 buy in.

I kept two chips from StarWorld. The $5 chip is a very basic pink chip with a yellow hot stamp of the casino name, denomination and I'm guessing the name in Chinese. The odd thing about this chip is I have never felt a chip this light that came from a casino. It feels like it weighs about a third of the $25 chip. As for the $25 chip it is lime green with four yellow/red/yellow edge inserts and "25" in yellow between each set of inserts. The centre inlay is white with the Galaxy logo in the middle, the denomination in a brownish gold, and the casino name in both English and Chinese in black. Both sides of the chips are the same.

Welcome back to the Land of the Living, PG. I hope that the report about Imgur problems means that the earlier difficulties are now resolved.

I don't know how much success Konbu might have in translating that bottom line from the $5 chip -- I would have had a great deal of difficulty in reading the name of the casino at the top of that chip. Looking at the $5 chip instead of the photo, can you verify that the line at the bottom matches the bottom line on the $25 chip? I think Konbu can make that one out, even if I can't.

And thanks for starting our "second thousand."

Nope, no problem at all since the outline is still visible and we already know where it's from. They are both the same.

星際娛樂場 = 星際 (interstellar), 娛樂 (entertainment) 場 (place/center). 娛樂場 is a classier way of saying casino.

Casino in Chinese is 賭場, which is literally "gambling place/center."

City: Taipa, Macau
Casino: Taipa Square

Today's chip of the day is from Taipa Square Casino in Taipa, Macau. Taipa Square was opened by Melcro Crown on June 12, 2008. This was the second last chip that we collected in Macau since we collected from Taipa last. We went to Grandview Casino, found out that there weren't any chips to collect and then tried to get a taxi to take us to Taipa Square. We asked a taxi and he seemed really confused and argued with us a little before we finally understood what he said, Taipa Square was literally a 3 minute walk behind Grandview. The taxi driver shook his head and laughed at us once we understood, we then walked to Taipa Square. I have no recollection of this casino and there are no pictures online of the inside. So... it was a casino where we either won or lost money on a game of gambling that probably involved baccarat or BJ, vague enough? For some reason they do not use $5 chips at Taipa Square so the lowest denomination that I could get were the $10 chips. I think this is the only casino that had $10 chips but not $5 chips.

The chip is very basic, it is actually the same model that I collected from Casino Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada which is made by Bourgogne et Grasset. The chip is a dirty sandy brown I would say. The centre inlay is white with with the casino name, the BG mark and MPBL all in black. I have no clue whatsoever what MPBL stands for. The denomination is in gold with a black outline over top of a silver horse. The horse looks like the Denver Broncos logo to me, highly doubt any connection :P

http://www.taipasquare.com.mo/en/casinos

Their website under casino says "There are around thirty table games with Baccarat and Sic Bo. "
but in the Chinese version it says "全場設有二十多張賭檯, 提供百家樂、骰寶等娛樂遊戲"= there are more than 20 tables, with baccarat, sicbo etc. games. Is it closer to 20 or 30 tables??

Also looks like there was a review of this property on: http://wizardofmacau.com/casinos/taipasquare.html

Lastly, MPBL most likely stands for Melco PBL Gaming (Macau) Limited. Looks like Taipa Square is in the same family as City of Dreams, Studio City and Altira. There's a short summary on wiki here but only in Chinese: https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%96%B0%E6%BF%A0%E5%8D%9A%E4%BA%9E%E5%8D%9A%E5%BD%A9

I think the "PBL" stands for "Publishing and Broadcasting Limited" the Australian entertainment and gaming conglomerate that partnered with Melco to run the casinos in Macau under the Melco license. When Macau first opened, Melco had no experience running casinos, but they had the license.

City: Cotai, Macau
Casino: Sands Cotai

Today's chip of the day is from Sands Cotai in Cotai, Macau. We got to Sands Cotai and immediately starting looking for a table that had the $5 chips available. After about ten minutes we found them, then we found a roulette table with a low outside bet minimum ($200 HKD) and played one spin. We lost the spin, cashed out and left. We didn't spend too much time in each casino unless we were playing poker there since the table limits were so high.

The chip is the same style as yesterday's chip from Taipa Square so I am assuming that it is a BG chip although there is no mark on the chip. The chip is pink (brighter than the picture shows) and has a white centre inlay. The same logo that was on the Sands chip is in the background of this one as well. Sands Cotai in English and Chinese is shown in gold in the middle. The denomination is black with a silver outline. This is one of the nicer chips that I collected in Asia. It is very clean with a very nice centre inlay.

After today I have 6 more chips to present (yes I know Doc will make a joke about that lasting me 2-3 more weeks :P) before Konbu can get back to posting his chips from his backpacking trip.

The second and third character can't be made out but since we know this is from Cotai, the chip should read 路氹城金沙, with 路氹城=Cotai, 金=Gold, 沙=sand. By the way, the same sounding but written slightly different characters 金莎 is the name for Ferrero Rocher chocolate. Perhaps it's named that because of the gold foil? Ferrero Rocher is a popular item to gift around Chinese New Year, or even when visiting someone's home because it's custom not to bring "two bunches of bananas," i.e., empty hands.

This is true but in my defence I had a valid excuse for not posting on 3/4 days with the last one being that I forgot to post after getting home from seeing Logan in theatres. Very good btw.

I almost made a boo boo. I made my chip collecting route through Southern California but forgot to include the newly opened Hollywood Casino in Jamul. Luckily I caught my mistake and added to the list. Glad I realized this before the trip actually happens.

Casino: Wynn

Today's chip of the day (or chip of every couple of days hehe Doc) is from the Wynn in Macau, Macau. I didn't play poker here because we had a dinner reservation to make and still had to visit MGM before cabbing to the restaurant. Eric played about 30 minutes of poker (he prefers to collect his chips playing poker and actually keeps his chips he collects playing poker separate from ones he doesn't) while I messed around on sides. I didn't see any point in sitting at a poker game for 30 minutes. I really wish I hadn't lost my paper with my win/losses but I remember this was one of my bigger losses of the trip. I think it was in the range of $800-$1000 HKD on mostly roulette outsides. As far as the casino it was beautiful as you would expect from a Wynn property. I would say that Wynn has the two nicest properties in Macau.

The chip is one of my favorites from my Asia trip. Wynn chips seem to be pretty simple but very classy at the same time. The chip is teal with 6 white edge inserts. The centre inlay is white with the Wynn logo, casino name and denomination all in teal. Both sides of the chip are the same.

Today's chip of the day is from Galaxy President Casino in Macau, Macau. The casino opened on April 29, 2006 and is owned by Galaxy Entertainment Group. We played one hand of baccarat and won $200 HKD minus our souvenirs. This was our last stop of our first night of collecting and we stopped at the restaurant/cafe to have some food before going back to the hotel. I had a giant bowl of brisket soup that while salty was quite good and only $4 Canadian.

I collected both a $5 and $10 chip here. The $5 chip is a darker lime green with red hot stamp on it. The hot stamp is a red circle (not centered properly) with the casino name in English and Chinese and the denomination inside of the circle. The $10 chip is the same style most likely by BG that I have posted a few times recently. The chip is sandy brown with a white centre inlay. The galaxy logo and the denomination of the chip is in gold. The name and Chinese lettering are both in black. I just noticed this is definitely a BG chip as the mark is on the inlay.

Just curious (in my nerdy way) about the proper name of the casino. The green chip just says "President Casino" while the brown chip says "President Casino" at the bottom and "Galaxy" at the top. I found the Galaxy Entertainment web page that lists three casinos, with this one just being called "President Casino".

How should this one be listed in the thread directory? For now, I have included the "Galaxy", but I can delete that (and put the link in a different order) if that would be more appropriate.

BTW, Konbu referred to the place as "Casino President" a few posts above, and the MoGH chip guide uses the name "Casino Galaxy President." I think we have plenty of options to choose from.

I actually debated this one for awhile and decided this way without any reason. Now that I think of it though the signs on the outside of the casino just said President Casino so I think I'll switch to that. The next two chip of the days have the same problem.

Today's chip of the day is from Rio Casino (Galaxy) in Macau, Macau. The Rio Casino opened on February 22, 2006. We tried and failed to find the Rio Casino on our first chip collecting night and then managed to find it by accident the next day. We were on our 45 minute walk to the ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral when we saw the Rio Casino. We ate the pork jerky I had just bought (spicy and yummy) because they wouldn't let us in with any bags. We then found a bathroom to wash up and headed in. The Rio is much like many of the other casinos in the area except that this one gave us a bunch of money. We played BJ and just kept winning! At one point we kept saying we will quit as soon as we lose a hand and next thing you know we were cashing out around $3500 HKD profit ($1750 each). Not too shabby!

I collected both a $5 chip and a $10 chip at the (Galaxy) Rio Casino. They are the same style of BG made chips that we have seen from my posts of the last couple of days. The $5 chip is lime green with a white centre inlay. The Galaxy logo and the chip denomination are both gold. The casino name in both English and Chinese and the BG mark are in black. The $10 chip is sandy brown with a white centre inlay. The centre inlay is the exact same as the $5 chip except the different denomination of course.

It's rare but some casinos do give away a lot of money (jokes), although most don't lol. I know it has nothing to do with the venue but I rarely lose at sides at the Venetian/Palazzo. I'm up over $30,000 at those properties over the last 5 years (yes I keep track cause I'm nuts) while giving a ton back at other properties. It's always been funny to me how you can find patterns in complete randomness. Of course it doesn't make a difference where you play if the rules are the same but I win at Venetian/Palazzo and have always lost at Flamingo.

Casino: Waldo

Today's chip of the day is from the (Galaxy) Waldo Casino in Macau, Macau. I will admit one of the first things that I did when we found this casino was take a picture of the front of the casino and post it on Facebook with the caption "I found Waldo". Yes I am a dork sometimes. As far as the casino we spent about ten minutes looking around and then played a single hand of baccarat, not much more to share about this generic Galaxy brand casino.

I collected two chips again at the Waldo Casino, still no logical explanation except I could, therefore I did. The $5 chip is a basic red chip that has a textured front and back. A black circle to mark the "centre inlay" is hot stamped on. The casino name in both English and Chinese along with the denomination of the chip are hot stamped on in yellow. The $10 is the same BG model that I have posted the last few days. The chip is sandy brown with a white centre inlay. The inlay has the Galaxy logo with the casino name in English and Chinese plus the "BG" mark in black. The denomination is in gold over top of the Galaxy logo.

I now have two more chips to post over the next couple of days and then I will turn the thread back over to Konbu if he is ready to go. I plan on posting those two chips without any missed days because a certain member harasses me when I don't post every day :P

Now why would anyone think you would miss a day?

Sorry Doc work comes first. Poker game lasted well into the new day and even if I had the energy at that point to make a post it wouldn't have been in time for yesterday's chip of the day.

Casino: Wynn Palace

Today's chip of the day is one of the prettiest chips from one of the nicest casinos I have ever been to, the brand new Wynn Palace. Steve Wynn has surely outdone himself once again. We took the cable cars (pictures in my TR thread) over the amazing fountains and into the casino. We both had mild panic attacks from the height as we were being brought into the casino. We ate at the noodle house and the food was amazing. I am always amazed that Wynn properties seem to have at least a couple of reasonably priced restaurants in his casinos. We played poker for about a hour but I cashed out at that point because I was getting quite tired. I won $140 HKD messing around on a slot machine while I waited for Eric to rack up his chips.

The chip is turquoise with 6 pairs of white edge inserts. The centre inlay is white and feels like plastic. The Wynn logo, casino name and denomination are all in black and make for an extremely classy looking chip. Another feature which is hard to show in a picture is the the shiny part when you move the chip shows a mixture of the "Wynn Palace" plus logo in rectangles opposite just "Wynn" in the opposite rectangles.

Tomorrow I will post my last chip which I mentioned in my first Macau post is the SJM chip from a particular casino.

Casino: Lan Kwai Fong

Today's chip of the day is from Lan Kwai Fong Casino in Macau, Macau. I mentioned in my post on February 19th that all SJM casinos except one use the same chips, well this is the one. We visited Lan Kwai Fong and mistakenly determined that they used the standard SJM chips, so we left without collecting a chip. We visited all the other casinos and had finished collecting. I was laying in bed messing around on the internet on my last night in Macau when something posted on the chip board on MoGH got me to looking at MoGH's Macau section. I luckily looked at Lan Kwai Fong's page for no real reason and saw they had SJM chips with Lan Kwai Fong on them. Luckily Lan Kwai Fong Casino was just down the street from our hotel so I walked over and checked. Amazingly there they were, Lan Kwai Fong chips!!! This is the second chip in less than 6 months that I collected by accident with a little bit of sheer dumb luck. The reason that they use different chips is because the casino isn't owned by SJM. It is owned by China Star Entertainment Group LTD and the casino is run under a SJM license.

The chip looks like it is made by BG although there is no mark on it. The chip is purple/blue with a white centre inlay. The top of the inlay has the casino name and logo, the middle has the denomination and the bottom has the SJM name and logo. All writing is in black. The chip also has what looks like a serial number.

This is my last chip post until after spring fling. As always thank you to Doc for letting me share my collection (even if it happens slowly) with the collectors on this site. Konbu you are up to bat!

And thanks to you, PokerGrinder, for a nice series of chip posts for this thread. You have contributed 16 (if I counted correctly) of the 21 chips that we have from Asia. (The other Asian chips include 2 each from Konbu and Tomspur and 1 that I posted but which was a gift chip from member telliot.)

Perhaps it is relevant to note that PokerGrinder's own contributions of chips from Asia exceed the number of chips that this thread has included from Africa, Europe, and Oceania combined! I think that suggests that some of our members need to be making more trips to casinos in the eastern hemisphere and posting their discoveries here.   ;-)

Well I'll be adding a bunch more to the Asia section next year but I don't have any plans to add to any of the other international sections.

Maybe you and Mrs Doc should take a world cruise. I've heard they are amazing. Something like 85 days cruising all over the world. Imagine what you would see! (And collect but more importantly see)

Can you imagine how ticked off our cat would be if we left for three months? Sometimes she seems to get in a snit when I'm gone long enough to take the trash out. Besides, my wife and I seem to get a little blasé with cruising after about two weeks. I suppose it could be a fun lifestyle, but not so much if you have a home to get back to.

I guess so. I tried to get a job dealing cards on a cruise ship when I was 19/20. Nearly impossible to even get a reply back. This is how I found out about the world cruise. They are also crazy expensive.

Just last week, I followed up on an ad for a 15-night cruise starting in Yokohama, Japan, hitting a couple of other ports in that country plus one in Russia before heading across to Vancouver. A veranda stateroom would have cost just $849 per person -- slightly more than half of what I would expect.

Unfortunately, it would cost at least $1,800 per person for the airline tickets. I can't stand the notion that the hours on a plane cost more than double the price of 15 days on a cruise ship in a nice cabin.

Even with airfare, your still under 200 per night for the trip, and have the opportunity to fly in a few days early for some land touring, and possible casino hopping (in the footsteps of PokerGrinder+Vietnam and/or the Philippines), prior to boarding the slow boat to Canada...

Today, I received an email promoting that exact same cruise (Celebrity Millennium, sailing on 5/7/17) but for a Concierge Class Stateroom (better than the plain veranda stateroom promoted before) and for just $699 per person. Couldn't beat that price with a baseball bat. Even knowing that the airfare was prohibitive, I clicked on the link. By the time I clicked, the Aqua Class, Concierge Class, Veranda, and Ocean View staterooms were all sold out. Only things available were inside staterooms (haven't been willing to go that route in decades) and suites (way out of my bracket).

Doc so how come you haven't been harassing Konbu to post his chips!?!? Is the harassing saved all for me? 😊

It's not really that you merit "special treatment" in that regard. It just would have had no impact at all for me to try to hassle our friend Konbu -- he hasn't visited the forum in more than a week.
