I think the shop gets something like .5% of large jackpots
So $5k in this case
Does one have noticeably better benefits over the other? Or are they pretty comparable and do you use them equally? Is one preferable if I'm mostly a table games player as far as comps/benefits are concerned?
I don't really have any "casino loyalties," and am looking for what has the best return, both as a credit card and as a low roller.
When it comes to table games..the points are based off Time + Average Bet (Which is determined by the supervisor after observing a few hands....Im a good dealer, so if that averages increases i usually let the supervisor know) Just play long and be consistent. Vegas casinos don't really offer comps, but during my observations, they never refuse a comp request if you qualify for one. Im not saying you play blackjack for a couple hours with $10 average bet and you're getting a steak dinner, but if you wanted a slice of pizza or coffee and pastry at the coffee shop, youll likely get it. It just never hurts to ask.

The machine itself also says,"Malfunction voids all payouts, " so these people are screwed from the get go since it clearly says that. People have threatened to sue the casino over the malfunction. If the casino wants to avoid bad publicity they can always payout the Maximum payout($250,000) to save face but this is really unlikely. They are more likely to settle with extra free play or something like that.
It is pretty rare to actually see a slot machine state a maximum payout, don't think they really do. Somehow it winds up in malfunction articles, don't always know where they get the numbers from.Quote: NathanIt's amazing how many people think they won millions of dollars on a slot that clearly says,"Maximum payout is $250,000. It's clearly a malfunction and they have the nerve to tell the managers to pay them like 8 million! SMH! Like someone said, something like,"If there was a glitch in your Utilities bill and it said,"Pay 8 million dollars, there's no way you would pay that, right? So why do these people expect 8 million on a machine malfunction? "

Good point. I think that's where I am getting my "$250,000," Maximum payout," quote from. From malfunction articles! D'oh! ;) I have seen some slots have a clear MP n the machine. Jackpot Party has a clear MP on it for instance. ;)

So do they win the $250,000 but the machine glitches and says $8 million? Or is it just some random no win spin and it says they won $8 million? Because I don't think I could be mad if I thought I won $8 mil but ended up "only" winning $250k, but I might be a little upset if I thought I won some huge prize and got nothing at all.

I think I have seen it written that some lady spun a losing spin but it told her she won 8 million and she actually went to the media when the casino refused to pay her 8 million! SMH!
TR gives you reward points for spending money, but not tier points. Reward points never expire as long as you continue to use the card, but you have to spend $5,000 every calendar year to maintain Platinum status. 10,000 bonus reward points for spending $750 within 3 months of getting your card.
MLife gives you reward points AND tier points for spending money, and they never expire as long as you continue to use the card. There is also no yearly minimum required to maintain Pearl status. Just keep using the card. 10,000 bonus reward points for spending $1000 within 3 months of getting your card.
For the casual Vegas goer like me it seems like the MLife card is overall a better deal since there's no minimum to maintain Pearl and you also get to build up tier points. If you're a Vegas regular or live there and can easily build up both reward and tier points, then it probably comes down to which comp system you like better.
A guy at the casino said he liked the MGM card, put all his business expenses on it, liked all the free play there in Vegas he had earned.Quote: TigerWuI got my MLife card in the mail and was looking over the benefits vs. the Total Rewards card.

Does Pearl status actually get you anything though? I was Pearl for a while, but I don't think I ever stayed at an MLife property during that time period, so I don't recall if there were any special check-in lines or anything.
Platinum would at least let me bypass the hellish check in line at Flamingo and other lower-tier properties. And IIRC, I was actually able to jump the line at the Bacchanal Buffet too. At higher tier properties, you needed diamond or better to get a separate line.

You can compare them here:
MLife
Total Rewards
I think Platinum might be slightly better than Pearl...? But MLife is also divided up into more categories so they have to spread out the benefits a little more.
But like I said, MLife lets you build up Tier credits just from daily card use, and that's a huge advantage to someone like me who doesn't get a chance to do that with Total Rewards unless I'm actually at the casino.
Senate Bill 1195 has passed the Senate and is headed for the House. Somehow this bill is all mixed up in our teacher strike that's going on right now. I think the revenue from the bill is supposed to go to education or something, or at least that's what the teachers want.
We still have crappy rules and regulations for our casinos, but expanding the game selection is a step in the right direction for people who enjoy gambling responsibly. Maybe someday we'll get rid of the stupid antes for card based games. One thing at a time, I guess....

No, they freaking don't. That is such crap.
How many people have to go to work and bring their office supplies with them, at their expense, not just the ones they use, but the stuff for the kids as well? Nobody other than teachers. Lots of teachers also buy the textbooks, subscriptions, even band instruments or lab chemicals and specimens, just so they can teach their assigned subject.
Who are the worst-paid people in any given state? The ones teaching your elementary-school children. The school might be getting a large amount of money per student, but in most districts, it doesn't go to the teachers.
People use excuses like, oh, they get all those days off, like in the summer. They don't. Most of them have to have at least one other job not to be on welfare. Most of them also work weekends at school events, lesson prep, correcting papers, all that other stuff they do outside of the school day.
Most schools require at least a bachelor's to teach below college level, at least a master's to teach at a university. But their true hourly wage sucks, well below others with that level of schooling.
Schools should be cathedrals of learning and opportunity. Our children are more than an afterthought. Only the love of teaching and the students keeps many teachers in their jobs, because most can make more elsewhere.

I think.it depends what state you are teaching in.
In CT the average teacher makes 64k ,which is not the worst paid by anymeans.
Sure some states such as Kentucky and Oklahoma are notoriously low but there is little that can be done when there is such a public clamor for funding archaic industries such as schools and day care.
Look at the bankruptcy of Stockton, CA. Police and teacher salaries and pensions forced the city to file for bankruptcy but the media that had lied about crime rates and poor educational outcomes never had to pay for what they had done.
People go into teaching because they look forward to jobs wherein their boss can only be in their classroom once a year and must give them written notice of his intent to do so. Can you imagine office workers being in a similar position? Yet the public carries on with a campaign to fund these rude, arrogant and boring dictators.
Quote: FleaStiffMuch of the reporting is based on a first year teachers base pay, ignores all their holidays and conferences, ignores the preferential treatment they get in side jobs such as grocery clerk where they attain a pension in fifteen years.

My sister was a teacher, now she's an administrator. I was married to a teacher, and have several friends that teach. Not one of them ever said the reason they became teachers is so they can avoid a boss. Why sprout nonsense like that?
I don't want my kids teachers getting preference for working part time as a grocery clerk. I'd like them devoting their time to planning activities for the classroom.

Usually you are pretty level-headed FleaStiff so I'm surprised to hear this opinion from you. I agree that a lot of public pensions, including teacher's pensions, have vast problems including mismanagement, calculations using over-ambitious returns, etc. That is one thing. But to disparage all teachers with what you are posting is a really bad look. I'm guessing you don't have kids.
Quote: FleaStiffthey want to work in modern palaces with plush teachers lounges.
It's clear you have never been a teacher nor do you know any or have any kids.
I don't know what the public school scene is like where you live, so maybe that's where your opinions come from, but here in Oklahoma it's abysmal and what you are saying couldn't be further from the truth.

We got slightly off track. There's a bill in Oklahoma that would legalize craps and roulette that teachers are pushing for because it would supposedly get more funding for education.
Back on topic, it looks like that bill has stalled in our Senate.... :(
So we might not get craps and roulette in our casinos after all.

I know that most of them just boot sharp bettors. But at the same time, anybody with a pulse would take that. They can't boot everyone. It's like offering a blackjack game that plays 5-1 on BJ and then booting anyone who doesn't double on 12.
