Here's a CNN article on a most recent incident of counterfeit chips.
The guy had under his control (which he later flushed down the Harrah's hotel room's toilet to the point of clogging the system and its discovery) $800,000 in bogus casino chips for the Winter Poker Open's "Big Stack' tournament. Quite a sum for one guy to have, remarkable, it caused the cancelation of the event.
This is no trifling amount.
