Yes. My horse pick plus all. It's a winning ticket if my horse pick comes in to either win, place, or show.

OK. 1 race to go and it looks like another winning day. It's amazing to me that I have gone from feeling that nobody can make money on the horses, to feeling that nobody should lose money. I think I need to back to drinking............

Im not sure how this day is a winner, the tickets would have cost more than the wins with a (your horse + All + All box)

Race 2 paid $19 the ticket was $36 for a $1, and that was the cheapest ticket of the day. there were some big fields in there making the boxes huge to play. not knocking your style just saying the tickets cost a lot for the meager wins the tri's have paid

that is not right. 1x9x8 = 72 x 3(box) = 216

Still a winner, but not as big as you thought

Nah JW, you got it wrong (I think). I was under the impression his horse has to win which means $72 is the bet.

FinsRule, no that's not correct. I was boxing the horse with any other. The pick in either 1st. 2nd. or 3rd. So JW17 may be right in the way I was calculating the cost?

JW17 & FinsRule, thanks for the help. It looks like the reason that it was looking so good was that I was calculating the cost incorrectly. I'll need to go back and re-calculate the costs, and therefore the net wins, or now, maybe losses. Knew it had to be too good to be true.

Thanks again.

◾Six-Horse Box ($1) – $120
◾Seven-Horse Box ($1) – $210

JW17, so just so I have the terminology correct, the following would be a wheel?
horse + all + all

Ex 10 horse field is 1 x 9x 8 x 3

And the following would be a box of a 10 horse field at a cost of $720?
Horse/all/all
all/horse/all
all/all/horse

No it would be 1 x 9 x 8 x 3 for 216 term would be " I'll take a 1 all all to box or 1 to hit the board will work too

not sure what you are asking.

this is how you do it, take the numer of horses in a race, say 10, you like the 1 horse, that leaves 9 horses. your combinations can be,

1 with 9 possible horses for second times 8 possible horses for third. 1 times 9 times 8 times 3. 3(for the box three different places the horse can come). the math is different for each race depending on how many horses are in each race. do you understand that? let me know, you are not a pain in the ass.

What you are essentially doing is making a $330 show bet in a 12 horse race - there's just a higher takeout. Betting it blindly is a bad idea. If you thought there was an exteremely vulnerable favorite - not as bad of an idea. Of course, that makes any bet better...

Since with the trifecta boxes you are doing you are essentially picking a horse to show, it'd be very interesting to see which you would make more at - betting your horse in a tri box, or putting it all on that horse to show. You might be surprised at the results....
