Every now and then a maths based crossnumber appears in The Times, and occasionally a friend makes me a photocopy. This is the latest one which I found really enjoyable, and the properties of numbers were very interesting.
I have put some hints in the spoilers, so please do not post the solution except within spoilers.
You can click the spoiler below as it gives you the "number" but no further clues, and in itself doesn't help you.

Try working out I Y then E and T; gradually work out more until you solve the puzzle.
Now you've got the grid worked out, what next. List the numbers in order, lowest first, and look at the first four after the multiplication B......F.
Remember "thematic" and re-read the puzzle.

Thanks for that, loved it!
That second hint was a bitch though. I took forever trying to figure out what
meant:
rdx latin abbreviation for sqrt?
num "z" = 26?
Anyway, I can confirm your answer! Not that you need any confirmation, the way everything fits together perfectly...
