Can any of the lefties actually articulate why they oppose a border wall?

Because it's an idiotic idea. There are several reasons for this:
a) The location is arbitrary. Why just along the border of Mexico? Why not at the Canadian border, or around Alaska, or all up and down the East Coast? I wrote software that caught a terrorist trying to get into the United States. From Canada into Washington. Having a wall on the Mexican border would not have helped at all, but good intelligence and tools did.
b) The cost vastly outweighs the benefits, and Mexico won't pay for it so your tax dollars will. I don't want to pay for a wall and neither does anyone else.
c) A wall won't help with the problems that actually need solving. It's a non-solution to a lower priority problem. Specifically, a wall will absolutely not deter foreign criminals from entering the United States.

In a nutshell, it's a functionally-useless, prohibitively-expensive pet project. And it's the very first thing Candidate Trump proposed. Go figure.

A.) because that's where the biggest problem is.
B.) Mexico will have no choice but to pay for it. That is if they want to continue trading with the USA. Without us their economy collapses. No choice.
C.) That's like trying to say people shoudn't pay extra to live in a gated community nor should they have fences around their yards.

I do believe the proposed wall is to be 35-45 feet in height spanning approx. 1000 miles at a cost of 10 billion dollars. With a border patrol given the authority to do their job even at twice the cost it is a bargain. Unfortunately, the example shown is what we have now along with a demoralized border patrol that are told to stand down and collect a check for nothing. They however are directed to harass actual citizens at checkpoints to keep themselves occupied.

And you think Mexico is going to pay for that on pain of terminating NAFTA? The US export trade volume with Mexico is up over 450% since NAFTA began. You go tell all those American companies with all those American employees that their sales are about to dry up because Trump has his heart set on building a wall and putting his name on it.

For example, don't mess with Texas:
Quote:

But when The Texas Tribune reached out to each of the 27 Republican members of the Texas congressional delegation, not one joined in Trump's call for renegotiating the treaty. None agreed to be interviewed, three responded with written statements and the others either did not respond or declined to comment.

“NAFTA is responsible for increasing trade between Texas and Mexico by almost 110 percent since 2004,” Rep. Will Hurd, R-San Antonio, said in a statement.

“Texas leads the nation in exports and benefits from international agreements that put Texans’ goods and services in front of more customers,” said Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, who voted to ratify NAFTA in 1993.

In 1991, the year before President George H. W. Bush signed on to the terms of NAFTA, Texas exported $15.5 billion in goods to Mexico, according to the Texas Center’s Institute for International Trade. By 2015, that had increased sixfold. Last year, Texas’ export industry employed 1.1 million people — the most in the country, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Trump is back on the "rigged system" thing this morning. He must have gotten some bad poll numbers. Because when he feels like he's losing, the system is rigged.
Maybe he saw the stat that 28% of early GOP voters in Florida voted for Hillary over him.

Hillary continues to fall. RCP's polling average has her up only 1.7 points, and and 538 it's down to 3.4. Yes, presidential elections aren't decided on the popular vote, but the popular vote is extremely correlated to the electoral vote. When the popular vote goes down, so do electoral votes. To wit: A couple of weeks ago 538 showed Hillary ahead by seven states, but now shows her ahead by only two states. In other words, Trump has to turn just two states from blue to red to win, and in one of those states he's a mere 0.6 points behind.

Hillary's chances of winning are down to 68% from a high of 85%, meaning that Trump has doubled his chances of winning in the last couple of weeks. And a one out of three chance doesn't constitute a longshot.

But there is an even more important reason Trump supporters, particularly less-educated white males, should be wary of his bluster: His policies won’t help them. Trump promises to bring their jobs back. But most of their jobs didn’t go to a Mexican. They went to a microchip.

The idea that large numbers of manual factory jobs can be returned to America if we put up a wall with Mexico or renegotiate our trade deals is a fantasy. Trump ignores the fact that manufacturing is still by far the largest sector of the U.S. economy. Indeed, our factories now produce twice what they did in 1984 — but with one-third fewer workers.

I'm probably betting more on Hillary. But, it's a bit scary.

I wonder how well these factor in voter turn out. Outside of these boards, I know like one person who actually LIKES Hillary. The liberal/left types I know mostly see her as somewhere between horrible and, as I see her, deeply evil. Many are on the fence about sucking it up and voting against Trump.

In the privacy of the voting booth, what will be satisfying? Meekly capitulating to corruption or supporting someone you admire and sticking out your middle finger?

Among less politically involved people, there's the concern of apathy. Voting for Obama was fun and exciting. The first time, more than the second. Some, older women and Hollywood type liberals feel that way about Hillary, but that's way fewer people. Hillary is as bad a "have a beer with her" candidate as one could imagine, and represents the idea that the status quo is not status quo enough.

The only thing that might get potential Hillary voters off their butts is fear of Trump. Is that enough?

Trump will also inspire apathy in many rank and file, and among rich, elitist, neoliberal, war enthusiasts, like Thomas Friedman, motivation to pull for Hillary, who is, after all, a fine representative of their interests. But, he does have his core who are highly motivated and many of those are people who normally wouldn't vote. And average conservatives are as motivated by Hillary hate and fear as liberals are Trump hate and fear.

It will be interesting. It will also be fun to watch the hysterical meltdowns, regardless of who wins. The only time it's worth watching cable news!

I play to people's fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That's why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular.

He also said that he saw thousands of Muslims in New Jersey cheering as the WTC fell on 9/11 (false), that he never supported the Iraq war (false), that Hillary started the birther rumor that Obama is a foreign-born Muslim (false), that he supports conservative values (false), or that the system is broken and he alone can fix it (false).

I wonder if Trump thinks all the accusations and problems will stop if he becomes President? He should probably ask Hillary & Bill about that.

It will go on and on and on. I wouldn't doubt it will be 10 times the scale of the Clintons.

Undoubtedly.

But he's promised to sue all of them after the election.

Don't hold your breath for that....

I can remember my high school football coach shaving and painting his own dog the team colors of our opponents. It worked the first couple times. After that, we realized our coach may have a serious medical condition.

Omg that's awesome.

I now want to be a high school coach solely so I can do that.

Today at 3 pm PST, the woman who is suing Trump for allegedly raping her when she was a child will be "breaking her silence" at a press conference with her attorney, Lisa Bloom. She has been anonymous until now, and sued him as Jane Doe.

This election is about to get even darker....

Update: it was a nothing-burger.

The accuser didn't want to show her face because of death threats, allegedly.

The false accusations from the Clinton camp are the everyday mirrored reality of their lives.

It's easy to come to that conclusion if you draw it without looking at any actual data. For example:

And this one, from that bastion of Libtard reporting, Fortune magazine:

I remember in an econ class I took some years ago, the professor or the book or whatever said something about the economy being affected(effected?) primarily from the previous president, NOT the current one. Or perhaps it was something about the president having little impact on economy (as a whole).

Perhaps I misinterpreted what I heard. Can anyone clarify what I'm talking about?

No matter what your father and the church told you, it's not a medical condition. Hell, they have a parade for it nowadays.

Sounds like it should be an episode of Modern Family with coach Cam.

Okay, then 538 shows Clinton's chances plummeting, too. A couple of weeks ago they had her at an 85% chance of winning, which has now dropped to 71%..

(I wish I could post the current graph there) But when you go to the trendlines, under the heading "how the forecast has changed) I see nothing dramatic because the red and blue haven't been crossing since June.

To me they are doing nothing dramatic because they are doing the same thing as they've dong for months. Trump appears to have a ceiling and Clinton has a floor.

http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/?ex_cid=rrpromo

Yeah,, I'm worried, but I see nothing new about the trend. Something dramatic would be something not seen so far (AFAIC)

If only they all actually voted. Unfortunately the people who would like to vote for T are probably not big on voting.
