I guess the Chicago area market isn't overbuilt yet. The company I work for has just signed a deal to build $2,000,000 worth of interior millwork at a new property in/around Chicago. Don't know the name or if it's actually new or a remodel. Details to follow as I ferret them out.
Casinos are generally fun jobs for Cabinetmakers. Lots of over-the-top architecture and opulent fixtures. Wether traditional(Bellagio)or modern(Wynn), it's nice to build something with a big "WOW" factor.

It's a new property. Will be the closest non-Indiana casino to the city limits.

If Illinois had better gaming laws, their casinos could be better. As it stands, with "gaming positions" limited at each casino, the casinos don't favorably compare to Indiana/Wisconsin/Missouri.

Smoking restrictions probably don't help them, either. I appreciate the air quality, but I would imagine that the IL casinos probably lose players to the other states because of the smoking ban.

Is this the culmination of the "Rosemont casino" that was bandied about for a while, except it's not really in Rosemont? If it's in Des Plaines, it will be the most convenient casino to the North Side of Chicago where the money is, and also a hop, skip and jump away from O'Hare Airport. I could see this casino putting up Borgata-type numbers or more ($50m+ casino win per month).

In a fit of original thinking, the new casino in Des Plaines wil be named(drumroll, please) the Des Plaines Casino! That may change when they get it up in the air,(The Wynn was originally supposed to be La Reve) but that's what they're going with right now. Here's the fun part; the entire casino will be built overlaying a gigantic artificial pond in order to comply with Illinois' statutes about gaming structures being "on water". I know that sounds grotesque, but he guy who sold the job for us has seen the architectural drawings and he tells me that's what's happening.
