Not sure if anyone else caught this on the NBC Pregame, but the NFL has an issue with players arrested during the lockout. Since there was no contract there was no conduct policy. Just recently they decided what to do with players who were arrested during the lockout, which would cover February to August or so, say 6 months.

Seems they decided if it was your first arrest you would get no penalty. But if it was your second or more arrest, there will be punishment.

Eight, yes, eight players fall into the later group. To me this seems fairly high and the NFL is getting to have a "thug" problem. The population of players on rosters offseason can be at most 1440 (45 * 32) but will be a little less due to retirements. 8 players is .56% of the group. Seems low until you put it in your own life. I have worked in places with 200 people and gone well over six months without one (.50%) arested a second or more time in their life. And remember, the total rate of arrests is higher when you include the first timers.

Does the NFL have a "thug" problem or is one arrest a month in a 1440 employee group normal?

The base is higher with the practice squad , reserves, ex-players who hit the news etc. Consider this in retail sales.

One out of every 28 workers was arrested for stealing last year, out of a total of 1.97 million workers the survey covered;

The NFL has had player behavior problems for several years, or longer. Not sure it's a Thug issue, more a sportsman with too much disposable income and time on their hands problem....

An NFL player is in the same position as a stripper.

Once the stripper has been hired for her looks, invested money in a boob job, etc. she is suddenly told she is a role model but each night they measure the sag and it reminders her that the high income is vulnerable.

NFL muscle-bound, testosterone junkies are gladiators who suddenly find that their income is high but they are also vulnerable and yet have this idiotic role-model status imposed on them

A recent review by CBS News and Sports Illustrated found that 7% of the athletes in the preseason top 25 (edit: college) teams had arrest records. Dropping that to one half of one percent in the pros is not bad. I wonder how the NFL rate fares compared to the NBA?

This number was based on only players returning from last year. That retail number is suprising, though.

Especially since it only covered theft. Have to think some of the stealers also got arrested for DWI, cocaine use, etc.
