While the porn industry doing this is new, it's not at all unique.

Record labels have been doing this for years.

When I worked as a communications tech for AT&T in 70's and 80's I frequently had to dispatch a local company tech to check for a bridged or tapped line after customer received high charges for phone sex. Never found one, NOT NEVER> Iwould tell customer he could fight it or make an offer to porn site and they would usually settle for 10 cents on the dollar. Always wondered how many teenage boys
got scared straight as a result of me dispatching a tech to their home. LOL
