Has anyone visited Rhyolite, NV or Goldfield, NV or any other wild wild west Nevada ghost towns from the 1800s? Which one is best? I was impressed by the size of Bodie, CA and was wondering if Nevada has anything similar. Thanks.

I go out and prospect on the weekends and I have been to Rhyolite, and Goldfield NV I like Goldfied the best they still have people living there, if you go there is a guy that is building a castle out there he opens it up so you can check it out for a donation, just follow the signs, when you come into town, if you have a four-wheel drive, Stop in Beatty when you go there also check out Scottys castle it down in Death Valley.
It's a good day trip out of Vegas if you get up early-morning. You can go on-line and find all the ghost town in NV at:

Have fun if you go but do not go in the summer time!

There's gold in lots of states. But is it cost effective to get it, thats the question. You don't want to spend $800 to get an ounce of gold worth $1000. (gold in its natural state isn't pure, its worth 70% to 85% of the spot price)

Sure, but don't expect to get much.
One guy outfitted his jeep with all the gold seeking equipment and spent his weekends and summers out in the desert. He didn't find much gold but his kids grew up climbing rocks instead of smoking them.
