Ding! Ding! Ding! Give that man a cigar.

Same thing why men find long hair attractive. In old age the body has less energy, so doesn't waste it on non-essential functions like growing hair. Thus long hair is associated with youth and health, which are associated with a high probability of bearing children.

Cool, I didn't expect my answer to be the one you were looking for, because the long hair comment seemed to hint to something else. But I correctly guessed that the answer must have to do with genes and reproduction especially because asked by Wizard ;)

For similar reasons, people tend to find persons with symmetrical faces more attractive than the ones with non-symmetrical faces because a symmetrical face hints to a balanced, healthy gene pool and lack of diseases. But personally I find very symmetrical faces a bit bland and perhaps lacking character.

People like faces to be nearly symmetrical but not Totally symmetrical... you can end up in the uncanny valley that way.

Don't most people have symmetrical faces? I can't think of one time I didn't find a woman attractive because her face wasn't symmetrical.

I heard that if you mirror the left hand side of the face (the conscious side of the brain) then you get a more 'thoughtful' look than if you mirrored the right hand side (or the other way around, I can't quite remember).

Anyone good with 'Photoshop'? You could try it and see.

Many women adopt shorter hairstyles as they age because shorter hair requires less work to maintain and style

Speaking to that, Willie Nelson, now 78, cut off his trademark waist length hair last fall. He said he was sick and tired of spending 2 hours every day taking care of it.

People still wear Hawaiian shirts? Funny they had a show on TV and that was one of the things that ranked up there on how to make yourself undateable/what women disliked. Some stupid show on MTV or something that my gf was watching.

Anyone who watches the stupid shows on MTV makes them undateable right there. Unless she's *not* wearing a Hawaiian shirt.

I like Hawaiian shirts. But I aged out of the MTV demographic long ago. And I'm too married to worry about dateability.

hawaiian shirts come in a wide range of print designs and colors. the show on MTV is stereotyping hawaiian shirts, like they do for many things. (hmm...is that stereotyping?)

I was gonna say the same thing. Was the associated article particularly bad news dictating a somber photo?
