after seeing the 2nd link I would like to change the tread title to add the word (maybe) but I can't

re the Riemann Hypothesis

I posted this because there was another thread about prime numbers and this involves prime numbers.
the story says the math problem is 160 years old and that if and when confirmed the mathlete will be award $1 million.

from the article:

"To solve the hypothesis you need to find a way to predict the occurrence of every prime number, even though primes have historically been regarded as randomly distributed.

It attempts to answer an old question about prime numbers (numbers that divide only by themselves and 1.) The hypothesis states that the distribution of primes is not random, but might follow a pattern described by an equation called the Riemann zeta function."

the 2nd link which I just found indicates there is considerable skepticism about the claim because the mathlete is 89 years old and has made other mistakes.
