their driverless cars

from the article:

"the collection of bad news around Uber creates a reputation in peoples minds," said Michael Ramsey an automotive analyst at Gartner. "Every other company would get a black eye too, but they might be forgiven. But for Uber its going to be hard to shake."

Uber decided to stop testing its lemons in Arizona, Pittsburgh, San Fran and Toronto.

I don’t think any reasonable person who saw the video can claim it was Uber’s fault

In this situation it is probably pretty likely that the driver if he were a human would not be charged or considered at fault LEGALLY.

But I have driven in and around major cities for decades. And I can tell you this kind of thing has happened to me many, many times. And I've always been able to stop. If I was driving that car based on what I saw on that video:

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I WOULD HAVE HIT THAT PERSON

the challenge that driverless car makers face cannot just be to make sure the car does not commit a legal infraction

the bar has to be a lot higher than that

Wow, I don't know much about how those cars work, but I don't think any court in the world would find fault with the driver if was a regular car. What on earth was that woman doing crossing the middle of a highway at night???
