We grow grass, oak trees, crab apples. Money is spent growing grass, fertilizing it, spraying it, cutting it, etc., for no return. The trees we have give us nothing.
Both my grand parents had mini orchards, and it was always nice to think there is food there, independence. I'm told history said in the old days, everyone had trees and such on their property, but then disease wiped them out and orchards came about. Orchards couldn't make it without getting rid of the competition, because prices were too low.
Apples, pears, plums, walnuts, we could grow so much in so many places from suburbia to urban property. I really know nothing of first hand practice. Is it that complicated and time consuming growing fruit trees. Or is the picking the hard part stopping people?

Stop fertilizing or spraying the grass.
Let things grow between the trees.
Prune the trees.
As the trees begin to bear fruit again.... if you don't want to pick them, let someone else do it. The usual rate is fifty fifty.

When I grew up we had a plum tree and I think an orange tree. Ah, yes, nothing like living off the land. Those were some mighty fine plums, I do say.

By food dependence, I basically fear really having nothing if the groceries and restaurants don't have any. The area I live in is not that big, maybe 200,000 and can support 40 hunter gatherers if there wasn't farming and distribution to feed people. Ugh, not counting dogs and cats as food.

I figure my neighbors are good for six months of meat. I'll worry about the rest later.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

It's an unsafe food source kind of like mad cow iirc. McDonald's would sell it as McRibs if safe by any means.Quote: billryanI figure my neighbors are good for six months of meat. I'll worry about the rest later.
