One night as I walked by a dozen of them I grabbed something from each guy. You could see the guys down the line get excited seeing that they had a live customer that was taking leaflets from everyone. After I took one from the last guy in line, I fell in line with them and started doing the slap and pass moves that I had learned from many years of walking the strip. When I ran out of my initial supply, I would get resupplied from the guy next to me. He was happy for a while to have a free partner. That is until I started expanding the business by offering the cards to wives and girlfriends. When I offered one to a baby in a stroller is when he wouldn't give me a new supply of cards and chased me off.
That's when I knew it was time to cut down on my drinking and not to make so many trips to Vegas.
Open a red light district and watch the # of visitors to LV skyrocket and Clark County get loads on taxes.
I will take the slappers over the timeshare folk any day.
Quote: Wavy70Still can't see why this is such a problem to people. Obviously this is a moneymaking service the visitors of LV want. I doubt it is a non profit looking to help the un-layable.

I said it a few weeks ago:
What Vegas needs to turn it around is for Clark Co to legalize prostitution. Hell, so many people already think it's legal, so why not?
Ding, ding, ding! Exactly!Quote: Wavy70I will take the slappers over the timeshare folk any day.

What would earn the county more money - the taxes on prostitution minus the costs of regulation and inspections or the fines minus the cost of enforcement? I'm thinking the enforcement costs more than regulation and inspections and that the taxes would generate more income than the fines making it a win-win. But that's just my guess.
Back to the porn slappers. The problem I have with them is that they add to the already overcrowded and slow moving pedestrian traffic on the strip and their allowed places happen to be where the sidewalks are the narrowest.

I agree. What I would suggest is having a specified part of the city where the girls may openly promote themselves. I'm thinking downtown, but only if it is agreeable to all the downtown properties. Otherwise maybe Paradise Blvd.. This is much like how it is in Panama City and Hamburg. This way, if you want it, you'll find it, and if you don't, you won't.
The way it is now in Vegas is the worst of both sides. Those who don't want it have it trust in their faces by the slappers and "Girls to you room" trucks. Those who do have to risk breaking the law and being robbed by the hooker.
Quote: ahiromu...but wouldn't allowing legal prostitution hurt the strip clubs?
Tough! This is supposed to be a free market. Imagine if progress could never be made because somebody would be adversely affected. Maybe we shouldn't have legalized cars because it would have hurt those in the business of making horseshoes, buggy whips, and cleaning the streets of horse sh*t.

Why not do like in Amsterdam, let them stand in the window and those who are interested can walk into the establishment? Could this be a way to save the Sahara?

I think it should be downtown and limited to second floors or above. You don't really need advertising on the street. People (men mainly) will definitly find it anyway.
And you will avoid the eyesore. The idea is, you could drive school buses full of kids through such a redlight district, and they wouldn't notice anything in particularly different, except guys going in darkly tinted doors. You could have the redlight, neon and ads, upstairs as you walk along hallways, but it would be invisible at groundlevel.
If you wanted to put businesses in the bottom floors , you could if anyone wanted to (lawyer offices, heh), but I think the upper floors would cover the cost of unused space probably.
I've thought too much about this.

Paying for sex has always been a bizarre concept to me. Most of the fun in sex comes from having the other person wanting to have it to. Forcing somebody to have sex for money sounds so unappealing I can't even imagine it.

Next time you're in Vegas, see what'll happen if, when you order one of those delicious pizzas to cuddle up with while in your underpants, a cute little honey delivers it and says "Hey Big Bob....I'll give you $800 to give it to me 3 ways from Sunday!" I'm betting you'll even share one of those Pabst's with her.

I don't oppose the Amsterdam model, but we don't have buildings set up for that presently. By the way, it is the same thing in Hamburg, but outside of the one street where they do that (I forget the name), other hookers hang out and directly confront men.
Regarding the second floor and above idea, there needs to be some way for men to see or mingle with the girls first. The way they do it at the Veneto in Panama I think is a good model. The man has to make the first move, otherwise the girl cannot bother you. However, this needs to happen in an big open space, not a hotel hallway.

Keep going down E Fremont past the Western all those old motels are set up with the rooms surrounding the parking lots and courtyards. Perfect setup and those hotels are already used for that so why not regulate.

I did not know that. That was along the lines of why I suggested Paradise Blvd earlier, due to the many motels. That area around the Western I don't think most tourists would want to set foot in.

You'd lose. I'm not allowed to date..

Obviously it would have to be "gentrified" however I can see people investing money into redoing the motels and cleaning up the area. If you notice the amount of shooting has gone down in that area. It's ripe for revitalization.
I'm in town next month. Let's hit the zoning board.
Not a single porn slapper.

I only saw a handful of them in aug. Have they cracked down on allowing them?
Say derrrrrr.
Quote: GWAEI only saw a handful of them in aug. Have they cracked down on allowing them?
I never thought about it until I saw this thread but, come to think of it, you don't see them as much anymore. I don't think it was any kind of police or government crackdown as their lawyers always played the "free speech" card. I suspect everybody knows how to find it on Backpage or other Internet sites. The "girls to your door" services are also terribly overpriced and kind of a scam. I suspect word of mouth got out regarding that.
advertisements (cards) Due to technological advancement the girls no longer
need the services and can advertise themselves.
No pimps, no porn slappers needed. App could track position, icon assigned to position could be tapped to display picture, age, working name. Guys could check who's around in a 6 block, 1 mile, 5 mile radius. They get close enough, the icon for her indicates busy.
Quote: beachbumbabsThey ought to do a Pokemon-like app. Walk the streets themselves, with their smart phone signed in as working girls. Guys can find them from a little ways away, eyeball them, decide if they want to approach. No prices quoted on the app, so no solicitation evidence. No police allowed to use the app.

Sounds like an easy way to get caught or murdered.

Unworkable. Any woman working on her own will soon either have a pimp or some really bad bruises.Quote: beachbumbabsNo pimps,

How would they enforce that?
Quote: WizardIf the police could get the slappers on any violation of the law, but I can't think of any offhand, I wouldn't oppose following Arizona's example and ask for proof of citizenship.

I feel like there are way less prostitutes on the strip nowadays.
I mean, when I went 10-12 years ago, there were a lot walking around and they were really obvious. Last couple times I went over the last year, there wasn't a single time where I was like, "Yep, that's definitely a prostitute." They've either cut down, or just gotten better at blending in.

I think the business has largely gone online. There are a host of escort services like the Erotic Review not to mention backpage. Safer for the girl and a better value for the client.

If you stay up late at strip properties you will see the prostitutes up and about. Saw quite a few at MB during my last stay last April. And when it appears that you are single, I've been approached several times.
Porn slappers did still exist at the time at a few places on the strip, IIRC. I don't think they are out when foot traffic is very low. I think they've been driven out a bit by the cartoon characters and as the Wizard states, online.
I still would say that I would not be comfortable using an illegal escort service. Once you make the service legal, you lower the chance drastically that you will get robbed.

Still at many of the hotels bars later at night, sitting alone. From Flamingo to Cosmo they are there slow playing VP, sipping a drink.
My rule of thumb usually is accurate, it’s she’s dressed like a party girl and smiles at me, she’s working.

Are any porn-slappers not illegal aliens?
When they are out, I think they are less intrusive than they used to be. A number of years ago, it was common for them to slap the cards at me while I was walking along the strip holding my wife's hand. I mean, c'mon !Quote: GWAEI will say when I walked the strip with my kids the porn slappers don't slap at me. I think it is because most of them are mothers/father's and have at least respect for families and kids.
