Any thoughts?
The date frame rigth now is bewteen May 27th and June 8th 2013.
Quote: NareedIt's getting to be 2013 soon, so I'm starting the early planning. To begin with, I'm wondering whether to keep with tradition and stick with Downtown, or to declare two years is too short for tradition and choose some other area.
Any thoughts?

I'd definitely like to try and come this time...... But having never been to Vegas, ill trust others judgement on a location :)

I hope you can make it.
Any idea where you'll be staying? Will you be renting a car, or relying on public transportation or cabs?

How many independents does it take to screw in a light bulb ? See the above, 99% of them are not independents anyway.

Not bad, but I have a joke scheduled for the next bump.
So, the Strip is gaining grouind in the polls... Any ideas where on the Strip? we need a reasonably cheap, good place for lunch, where they can pull tables together for 10 to 20 people. I know few restaurants/bars on the Strip, so any suggestions would be appreciated.
One idea I had was to hold it at a buffet. I figure some places would reserve space for a gruop (with payment in advance, naturally). But the downside is most epople here would rather criticize a buffet than eat at one ;)
What joke ? I was serious as a heart attack. And I have earned the right to say that.
But I am protected by the adage " Only the good die young "

If people want to stay where the group will be meeting, and if people are as cheap as I am, then some of the lower-tier Caesars' properties (perhaps excluding Quad & Bill's) would fit the bill. My most-frequent strip stays in the past four or five years have been at Bally's, though I stay off-strip at Rio more often because I like the rooms. Usually Bally's offers a pretty good rate for most anyone with a Total Rewards card.
I have never been there for lunch, but the Burger Brasserie, along the connecting hall/mall between Bally's and Paris, has provided some reasonable (quality and price) dinners for my wife and me. They certainly could pull tables together, but I have no idea what their attitude might be on that.
I don't yet know whether I will be there for edition ]I[, so take my input with a barrel of salt.

I will most likely stay Downtown this time, too. That's where I do most of my play anyway.

I'll look it up. This time, I'll email ahead and ask questions.
Quote: CroupierDepending on whether or not a competition I entered pays off, I may be able to get to Vegas next year. Is a long shot, but who knows.
So if you win, pressumably, money on a competion, you could then go to Vegas and lose the money you won in the comeptition? ;)
Quote: NareedSo if you win, pressumably, money on a competion, you could then go to Vegas and lose the money you won in the comeptition? ;)
Not quite. If I win the competition, I win a 5 day stay in Vegas and $1000 spending money.

Lots of luck!
But I like my version better :)
BTW, if we count this poll in old Mexican style, then it's Downtown 7, Strip 2. How? well, "Off Strip" and "Either is fine" can be construed to mean Downtown, while the seeming 5 count for "Strip" is really an up-side down, misshapen 2.

Im really not too sure about where i would stay yet. Id prolly try and go as cheaply as possible ..... i wont have much in the way of comps to use because 99% of my play so far has been in Oklahoma tribal casinos and the occasional trip to Ameristar and Argosy up in KC.
I'm also thinking a rental car might be ok.... but i probably should hear everyones thoughts on that :)

Vegas is really cheap when it comes to lodging, even in luxury hotels like the Venetian. At least comapred to other major cities. Downtown is cheaper than the Strip, overall, and most hotels don't charge resort fees.

Largely it depends on where you want to go. If you're going to be going mostly to the Strip and Downtown, and even some places off Strip, public transportation is good enough and much cheaper. If you'll want to drive to places far off Strip, like Sam's Town, Red Rock, Rampart, or to the Hoover Dam bridge and so on, a rental car would be better.

Thanks.
Oh and for the record, my vote was Downtown. Guess Im a traditionalist.
Quote: CroupierOh and for the record, my vote was Downtown. Guess Im a traditionalist.
I liked staying there a lot better than on the Strip. Everything is within walking distance and the gaming options are better.
So, any suggestions besides Doc's? I'm open to anything withing these guidelines:
1) reasonable price
2) reasonable food quality
3) the ability to seat 10-20 people together
As to gambling afterwards, I think the best option is poker. The Strip is lousy with poker rooms, too. But I'll do a poll on that later.

Im a fan of KGB at Harrahs. IMO good burgers, decent prices and I bet if contacted in advance could set something up. Bear in mind that this reccomendation has nothing do do with the smoking hot waitresses as I probably wont be attending :D.

For the record, there are now two suggestions for burger joints at Caesars properties, both from people who don't know whether they'll attend. I sense a pattern here...

Of course not ;)
Quote: coilmanThat 18% tip added to groups of 8 or more might be a sticking point for some LOL
Maybe, but I dont think 5 bucks apiece is too bad for a group. Once you factor in that it ight take 2 or more waitresses to take care of the group, and the fact the service is pretty good, to me its worth it.

Just saying from what I have read on here about tipping..... for me if I was attending thats a non-issue.

Oh I agree that some people on here wouldnt be happy.

Is Mr. Pink joining us?
Aceofspades: Uh-uh, I don't tip.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't tip?
Aceofspades: Nah, I don't believe in it.
Nice Guy Eddie: You don't believe in tipping?
Mr. Blue: You know what these chicks make? They make shit.
Aceofspades: Don't give me that. She don't make enough money that she can quit.
Nice Guy Eddie: I don't even know a fucking Jew who'd have the balls to say that. Let me get this straight: you don't ever tip?
Aceofspades : I don't tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I'll
give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned, they're just doing their job.
Mr. Blue: Hey, our girl was nice.
Aceofspades : She was okay. She wasn't anything special.
Mr. Blue: What's special? Take you in the back and suck your dick?
Nice Guy Eddie: I'd go over twelve percent for that.

LOLOL - Buzz, you must know by now that I do indeed tip :)
but, placing me into classic movies could be an interesting new thread!!!
