And who holds YOU in check?

Interesting that there are so many people here not only who don't like being disagreed with, but also stoop to insulting behavior in doing so. You need to hold yourself in check, my friend. You and I don't see the world the same way, and you can feel free to think that it's because your point of view is "right" and mine is "wrong", but there is no need for your hostile behavior. You went totally apeshit when people (not just me) answered your 500 spins question in a way that disagreed with your own preconceived notions---you said that you wanted to see if people were "crazy", as in, DISAGREED WITH YOU (horrors to Betsy!).

Take a good long look in the mirror. Or get all exercised at what I'm saying and spew some more insults. Your choice.

So was it Nareed's command of the language that got him in trouble? If he had said "Maybe they can compete to see who makes the most obnoxious comments" would he avoid the personal insult issue?

Technically, yes. In another thread, when Finsrule said, "You sure can be dense sometimes" (for the heinous crime of not agreeing with him), he violated the rule against personal insults, in a similar way.

You can attack the writing, or the idea, or the argument, but you can't attack the person. Nareed, I suspect, doesn't care: he/she has lashed out at anyone who has tendered even a tiny perceived slight against LBGT people: my crime was to state that there is no such thing as a real sex change operation. For that opinion, I have apparently been consigned to the lowest circle of Nareed's personal hell.

I would like to think that even a statement such as your modified version wouldn't be articulated by anyone with decent manners, but I neither expect that from Nareed or Finsrule, nor would it be a forum violation if they restated their insults in such a fashion.

You sure can be overly sensitive too. (I consider sensitivity to be a compliment, I cry at every movie)

You're good at using the rules of this forum to your advantage too. You insult people with sarcasm and patronization. Then when they say something as heinous as "You sure can be dense sometimes" you cry "PERSONAL INSULT!" (That is a compliment too. You are very crafty)

If it happens, I think I can handle being suspended for a day for my vicious attack. I don't average 17 posts a day. (You're very persistent, another compliment)

Not that I don't want women around, but after where I work I like the "guy talk" format here. Yesterday one female co-worker was calling mastercard to see where her joint card was used to see what here husband might have bought here for Valentine's Day. Today one was going crazy because FedEx shipped her phone to two regional sorting facilities on oppisite sides of the state instead of "dropping it off." I'm afraid what tomorrow will bring. Had I been laid off from my old job a week or two sooner I would have collected unemployment and given craps school 10 hours a day of my attention.

I should have stayed in school....wait, I did stay in school. *sigh*

I actually just moved from St. Louis back to Chicago. I do miss STL, and I'll be back this weekend visiting. I'm a huge Blues fan, so I'll be at the game Saturday.

I'll try to play some of Pai Gow Dan's game over at Ameristar, and I'm going to take my wife over to River City for the buffet, she's never been there before.

Go Blues!

But, seriously, everyone's obnoxious at one time or another. So asking who's more obnoxious among two or more people is not an insult. Not literally. What it was meant as remains open to question, of course, but the literal meaning isn't.

The polls are clear. They favor ostrazising both in the classical sense.

I guess I'm somewhat flattered in a way, that in Jerry's absence, there's another forum member who has stepped into his metaphorical shoes, and developed a hard-on for me.

OK, no problem. So I won't read your posts unless they get quoted in another post. But, I certainly won't be responding to any more of your posts. Not that I will know, but does this apply to everyone? Are you going to post a list of posters-readers who you don't want reading your posts?

Yes:

1. You.

I agree you rarely fire the first shot. But you can't help yourself sometimes. Like for instance in the modern racism thread when you rifled off this about EvenBob... I consider it insulting

EvenBob is kind of special; and I don't consider that to be an insult in his case: it's more the unfortunate truth. The entire thread/question that he started was not only badly reasoned, but also kind of odious in its implications. Note, however, that I did NOT say "Bob, you are an idiot." I do draw a distinction between what a person says and his actual intellect. He does indeed say many, many stupid things, but I don't think that he is stupid--far from it, in fact. It's just that he's the Dan Quayle of this forum, and he doesn't even realize it.
