Here's an offshoot of the other poll, asking if you''ve ever gambled to much at some point.

Have you ever gambled, over gambled, or done things (rat holing chips, or playing in near offsetting craps with a friend, for example), just for the sake of getting more, or better comps? Fess up ::-)

I guess so? I mean, I don't really gamble unless I'm being rated. Might as well build up some comp points while I'm losing money.

The vast majority who play casino games will play for whatever comps are available. The most common exceptions being those who play so little they don't even know about the comp system, or it would be too trivial to care about (enough points for 47-cents off at the coffee shot). Don't think that is the type of person who would be at wizardofvegas. The rare exception would be the ZenKing situation, where someone values anonymity above whatever comps they could get.

No one ever plays casino games with the exclusive intention of getting comps -- the value of the comp is always added to the value of playing the game to decide if it is worth it.

Valentine's Weekend, early 2000s.
I'm playing slots at the El Cortez and having an unbelievable day. I'm up over $1,000 after several big hits on nickel games. I check and I'm 128 points shy of the 2500 needed for a box of candy. An hour later, I'm $300 lighter but the proud owner of a Whitman sampler. Twenty minutes later, I enter the Golden Gate , where the days promo is the same box of chocolates, after $50 coin in.
The older I get, the better I recall things that never happened

One casino had an offer. For every 100 points earned you got a $50 gift card. The sign said you can keep earning for more than one

I earned 3600 points only to find out there was teeny tiny small print at the bottom that said limited to 6 per player

No I wouldn't have played for those. I am not a Macys guy

It was awhile ago but i believe it was gas cards. I dont drive but I can always use them when convincing friends to drive me somewhere far away

I do. I don't enjoy gambling anymore so most of my gambling is for an advantage play. I consider comps an advantage play. I play $50,000 in a day on both my card and my wifes card just for the benefits from Caesars. I won't play another dollar other than free play given to me for the rest of the year. My expected loss is around $500 and I get about ten to fifteen times that in comps and free play.

I dont play for comps, I play to win and will gladly buy my own food. However, when I play at casinos that have something to offer me that I enjoy, then I get rated and will take whatever they are giving me based upon my play and past relationships.

I have another question for the board.... Do you factor in comps value that you are given into you person win/loss valuation. Ive had this discussion with friends in the past and they like to factor in all the comps given to them on a trip vs what they loss in order to get their overall win/loss for the trip. I personally dont do that as I feel they are rationalizing. What do the APs do in their valuations?

btw... im not talking about match play or free play, etc... as that equates into real money. Im talking about rooms , food, shows, etc.

Mathematics aside, does that work in the real world? Doesn't the pit boss, host, comp people, CET? Or Mlife notice that you have the same last name and addresses? My wife and I thought about doing the same thing but figured that would tip them off so we've never tried.

..... i think they should allow you to redeem a portion of your comp dollars accumulated into cash. I think this would be a big hit with whomever implements the program.

Mathematics aside, I've wondered if that would work in the real world with a spouse. Doesn't the pit boss, host, comp computer programs, CET or Milfe notice that you both have the same last name, address, and room number? My wife and I have thought about doing it but we figured that they'd catch on because of those particulars and void the whole endeavor.

Mathematics aside, does that really work that well in the real world? Doesn't the pit boss, host, comp system, CET or Mlife notice that you have the same last name, address, and room number? My wife and I have thought about doing that on craps but we figured that all the similar information would tip someone or something off and void the whole thing.

Mathematics aside, how does that ever work in the real world on games like craps and roulette? Doesn't the pit boss, host, comp computers, Mlife or CET catch the same names, addresses, and room numbers? My wife and I have thought about doing it but always figured that all those similarities would get noticed and void the whole thing.
