Thanks again to Mike and Zuga for allowing the division into regional sub-forums! Thanks, JB, for doing the programming!

The question is whether it's worth the time and effort to do a sort-housecleaning for threads in various carry-all categories and move them into the regional sub-forum. Many threads are circumstantially about a location, but already in the correct place (ie a blackjack question that came up while someone was playing at Borgata); I'm not talking about moving those. But threads that discuss things specific to a location, seems like they should be placed there for easy retrieval by someone looking for advice on a location in that region.

I'd like to know the level of interest and/or usefulness of doing this; after all, there's a forum-specific search bar at the top of every page. I'd also encourage future threads to be started in location forums if that's most appropriate to their subject, and that may be the best place for the sort to start, without back-sorting the old threads.

I don't know how many people look first (or regularly) at a particular sub-forum; personally, there are only a couple of those I use, as I try to read everything that's recent, so am generally using that feature rather than any particular topic. If you tend to be a person that primarily reads by topic rather than what's posted most recently, I'd like you to mention that in the thread.

Other ideas are also welcome, if I didn't cover your preferred handling of this above.

Thanks for weighing in!

I used the "forum specific search bar", searched for 'cats' and was quite unhappy when I got linked to some stupid thread (no offense) made by the Wizard about saving a painting or a cat in the instance where there's a fire at a museum (wait why is there a cat in the museum?).

I say don't retroactively change locations of threads...unless it's a really big thread that obviously fits in a different category.

Personally I don't think it's worth anyone's time to re-home old threads. I almost never browse my section, I exclusively use the "Recent Threads" page to read this forum.

That's my use case and my vote, but I understand some people might want some re-homing.

If threads were to be re-homed, I think it'd be most important to move the oldest threads. If I want to find info about staying in Biloxi, I don't care about whether there's an ongoing discussion. I care about finding a RaleighCraps trip report thread from 3 years ago.

And, I think most of these threads are in the same places. Other Casinos, Other, Off-topic, Other Games, Trip Reports. So the search for threads to be moved is mostly deep and not so wide.

Agree about where to find them, though Trip Reports is a new sub-forum as well. I figured to comb these you mention along with General and a couple other vague catch-alls for most of what could be moved.

Thanks!

I was thinking the exact opposite. I would think something about Biloxi from 3 years ago would be outdated.

If it were me I would reorganize anything that has happened in the last 6 months and leave it at that. Maybe move something older if it gets bumped.
