Someone did a study on the odds of someone winning $2,000 on BJ betting $100 per hand compared to $2 per hand and found the $100 per hand bettor was 2,000,000 times more likely than the $2 bettor. I saw this quote about 15 years ago, don't know who it was and the exact details. I always use this to demonstrate why casinos offer 50 line penny machines versus other slot offers, because they know even luck won't hurt them. Total bets can remain the same, but people won't be able to win enough to hurt them if they don't come back.

I also discovered a NA casino, instead of ordering player card readers from the US manufacturer, they contracted in China to have them counterfeited, even using the manufacturers name on them. I have been unable to rediscover this story online for at least a year. Does anyone know which casino this was? I don't know if the story was covered up or what, but I can't find it anywhere.

I wonder about your conclusion. Seems to me the Casinos want you to make big bets. They sure will raise the minimums on the tables if they can get away with it.

It is true they have upper limits too, at a certain point. Evidently if a player talks them into exceeding those levels they still do not like the single one time bet. But I think to conclude they are playing scared for what 99.9% of us could put up is just wrong.

First of all tables are different than slots. By raising the minimum on tables, they are forcing people out of their comfort zones and they make purposeful mistakes because there is more on the line. Someone may not feel the pain splitting 8s for $5, but they people change their minds once the stakes get higher and do all kinds of things differently being afraid to lose.

Imagine for slots, someone says they can only lose $50 and only have $50 to lose. They can either play $1 TD or 100 Lions. Imagine they don't really know what they're doing just hitting the spin button. On the TD, they might hit a JP or the top JP for $4,000 by hitting the max bet button. On 100 Lions, they would bet $.50 and for practical purposes, they could only win $500 with a rare full screen of lions. On TD, they are making 1 $3 bet, but on 100 Lions, they are making 50 penny bets. They lose customers when big wins are had, because they are satisfied knowing they won't be able to do it again. On the penny beasts, they might only get a portion of a full screen and they think can do it again and the casino has the money back in no time. By essentially forcing people to make so many small bets while in the casino with no longer many other options, they are better able to be assured any win is going to be lost back in the casino within the day. Think of it as betting one hand versus, betting a whole table or multiple tables. How would your luck be?

I wanted to add the story about the casino was the sales rep had contacted them about replacing their players card readers since he knew they were getting old. They refused to buy and one day he came in and they had all been replaced. The NA casino had contracted with a Chinese company who counterfeited their products exactly and even printed the company's name on them. I keep trying to search for this story again and apparently never bookmarked it.
