Surprised I have not seen it here yet, but according to an article on calvinayre.com, our humble leader Mr. Shackleford has sold the wizard of odds and WoV websites to latestcasinobonuses.com but will stay on as a staff writer. Congratulations Michael, you have definitely put an immeasurable amount of hard work into your sites over the years and the entire gambling community from recreational players to ap owe you thanks, and deserve every dollar. I hope not much changes although I'm sure there will be more advertising.

WOW Congrats Mike

$2.35mil is a very nice sum and well-deserved!!!

Now, to the selfish questions:

What about our profiles and/or real names/identities?

I implicitly trusted Mike with this information - what is our fate now?

I assume they will appoint their own ADMINS

Does the purchaser have affiliations with any brick and mortar casinos that might be interested in our identities hereon?

Sorry for these questions :) Just doing my due diligence

Hmm, 2.35 mil,
Sounds like we need a celebration party in Vegas,
Drinks on Mike? Dinners on Mike? At 2.3 mil, I think its fair. How about going for it, the Bachanal :-)
How about it Mike, drinks and dinner party to reward us for the member posts on this board.

So now the site is owned by an online casino conglomerate?

Funny how life works: one month Mike is waving his tin cup for spare change, and now (by implication, at least) he's a millionaire.

I don't quite know yet how I feel about the new owner realizing some financial gain from the forums: it was cool when it was just Mike, because he's a real guy, a mensch; but a nameless, faceless corporation is another thing entirely.

Anyway, well played, Mike.

My immediate reaction is to congratulate Mike for a huge deal. This site and vegasmessageboard.com are the ones I use to learn about games (here) and read more about actual play (here and there) when a trip is coming up. I know I don't talk as much about math or any of that stuff but I do learn a lot from this site.

The secondary reaction is: what will happen to this site? It is easy to say no changes are anticipated, but that is harder to make happen. I also share the concern about my personal information and I hope that is addressed shortly.

Nothing every stays the same...

but...I'm in Vegas the next four days if Mike wants to buy me dinner!!

I find this humorously ironic.

Nearly everyone on this forum knows more than I do about the internet and privacy protection.

I mean I am an analog man in a digital world, but I still know better than to expose info to anyone I haven't personally shook hands with on the internet for crying out loud. It amazes me how good at this many of you are.

Did not you all see the data mining from the "cloud". Keeriminee sakes. It has been on the news on every outlet [including Fox, nbc's, democracy now, and probably even rush friggin limbaugh] for years, if it is digitally broadcast on any leg of a transmission it is recorded and no longer private.

There are people here who make a living ap'ing, good grief.

I read a news forum. Two guys were arguing about who had the best internet kung-fu and one of them came on and told the other guy his name and street address and asked if his opponent wanted to continue? Shortly after it was scrubbed and I never heard from the second place contender again.

The mass data storage center in Utah is supposed to come on line this month. I get a trade journal from people working out there, at least that part of it isnt a conspiracy theory.

I pretty much accept that the government knows everything about everyone. I don't like it but it's the world we live in.

But when we signed up for this site we put our trust in someone who was supposed to be trustworthy. The word integrity gets thrown around a lot. I guess it's not a matter of if someone has integrity, but how much. Most people would probably sell us out for $100. At least we got sold out for a couple of million!

It's about advertising, not information. If you
spend X amount, you expect to get x amount
back over the next 3 years, usually. Because
the company who now owns
these sites buys online casinos. all the ad's

Mike said that he and the admins don't read them, not that they can't.

Of course they can be read. They are stored in plaintext in a fucking database. You don't need a "smart web designer", you just need someone with access to the database and some kind of a basic clue about which end of a computer is up.

In any system where you can recover your password, it's not possible to make them unreadable. In a system where you can't recover a forgotten password, it's possible, but a pain in the ass.

I'm going to address just this (not the sale) from my knowledge, and I could stand corrected from JB and Wizard. Admins do not have any access to PM's. We do not have access to passwords. We are able to edit and delete publicly posted threads and posts to a thread to a limited extent; we are not able to edit polls.

It is possible that JB can recover a forgotten password, I suppose, but my best understanding is that he cannot; when someone forgets one, he verifies their ID via the email they originally used to sign up and other processes, then allows for a password reset. I could be wrong about this. JB can, with some work, port/graft one ID's posts into another. (I found that out during the "AcesandEights" duplication). Regular admins can not do these things.

I am not aware of any future intent or past activity in selling or marketing any forum member info to any third party or new owner. But that's getting beyond my knowledge of how the deal is structured, so I'll leave that to Mike.

Please accept my congratulations, Mike, on the sale.
