Haven't been to Fresno much since Covid. But I took a trip to Mono Wind Casino in Auberry yesterday, and made a quick stop at Table Mountain. I've been to Mono Wind maybe 4 or 5 times. It's a very small Indian casino maybe 20 miles north of Table Mountain, which, of course, is a huge casino, and going to soon be even huger. My first trip to Mono Wind several years ago found very poor video poker. Nothing playable. I made another trip before Covid, and found there were many older Game Kings with 9-6 Jacks or Better. Suddenly, it was a playable location. The drive is rather scary if you don't know the area and you venture at night. Pay attention and know where you're going.

So since going there before Covid, I had heard they made a lot of changes. Yesterday I found tons of brand new beautiful machines all over the place. Many new Game Kings, nice machines, with the same games on each. Unfortunately, they have reverted back to their old ways, the games are awful. Worse than before, actually. Here is the paytable for Jacks or Better that is there now. I have never seen this before.

RF 4000
ST 400
Quads 125
FH 50
Flush 35
Straight 25
Trips 15
Two Pair 5
Jacks 5

91%

The other games are just as bad. They have all the latest slots on the floor, I'm going to guess their settings are at their worst. So for now, it's not really worth the trip, not for gambling anyway. And they don't send mailers, not even ads. What a loser.

I left and made a quick stop at Table Mountain. After midnight, it was packed, as usual. They are really serious about checking people going in. Masks still required, and they check you for weapons, and check anything in your pockets, put it in a bucket, spray it, temperature checks, etc. Pretty serious about keeping the Virus out.

As I left, I was shocked to see the progress of the new casino, almost complete, just to the west of the old place. It looks GREAT! There's a hotel, with restaurant on top. It's beautiful I'm guessing it will open maybe January or so. Looking forward to it. It's going to be nice.

Ah, tribal casinos.

Good to see the Native Americans finally getting some form of pay back for all the grief the white men in power have dumped on them.

These days the "scalping" is strictly financial.

Funny, I was in Fresno yesterday too. First time I ever visited. No time for casinos, though. I was in Madera for my son to take the SAT.

Afterward, we ate at Heirloom restaurant — excellent food and drinks!

One of the reasons I wanted to visit was because of the parody of the TV show "Dallas" — appropriately called "Fresno." Who remembers that?

That is strange. Since it was your first time, let me tell you a couple things about Fresno. On the drive up to the casino, (Table Mountain), there are some areas that really look nice, nice big beautiful homes, green parks, people going for walks with their dogs, looks like a wonderful place to live. But if you listen to the nightly news, every day it seems like the news is full of stories about robberies, murders, gangs, etc. EVERY DAY! So there are some nice parts of Fresno, and some not-so-nice parts. Same as every city, I guess. So be careful, keep your eyes open, when you go to Fresno. In my opinion, it is a dangerous city. Even in the nice parts, stuff happens. I'm sorry I have to say that. Just be careful.

Aside from the warnings, if you return to Fresno, maybe that new casino will be open by then. Should be nice, check it out.

Y'know, Madera was supposed to get a big casino too, not sure what happened, there are some legal obstacles. At one time, I recall it being a joint venture with Stations Casinos. I was looking forward to that, but it's in limbo.

My impression of Fresno is that it's a lot like the Sacramento suburbs, such as Roseville, on the way to Thunder Valley Casino.

When I drove around Madera, I thought it was reminiscent of other California towns: the residential areas had wide streets like Livermore, and the downtown reminded me of the downtowns in Salinas, Gilroy, and Hayward.

I think when I stopped in Chukanski Gold on the way to Yosemite a while back they had some decent paytables like 8/5 BP STP.

Good to see you again, teddys!

Two casinos I've been wanting to check out are Chukchansi and Table Mountain. They're paradoxically too close, yet too far to visit.
