I have created a bracketology pool in pool tracker, the same system we used with the NFL.
It is a straight bracket pool with the following scoring.
1 point for each correct pick in Round 1
2 points for each correct pick in Round 2
3 points for each correct pick in Round 3
4 points for each correct pick in Round 4
5 points for each correct pick in Round 5
6 points for the correct Champion
The name of the pool is wizard of vegas
the password is wizard.
You can join by following this url
http://www.pooltracker.com/join.asp?poolid=64142 (sorry still don't know how to make a link)
For those who participated in the NFL pool you can use your same credentials to log in. For the rest you will have to set up a user id and password. You can go at anytime from now to just join the pool. This will help in case there any questions or problems.
Because:::::
After Sunday 3/11 you will basically only have one day to fill out your bracket as the play in games start so soon.
The only incenctive for participating in the pool is bragging rights just like the NFL. I wish there was a way we could pool some cash from everyone and award prizes but I can't think of a way to do that.
However it is still fun. Who doesn't like to participate in a March Madness bracket contest.
By the way the odds of a perfect bracket are 1 in 18,446,744,073,709,551,616. Thats without the two playin games.

Why does it say the pick deadline is 03/15 than?

That is assuming each game has equal opponents. Picking favorites should get the odds much lower hehe

You mean the four "play-in" games?
Of course not; you mean the four "first round" games. (The 16/17 seeds are just as much in the tournament as the teams playing on Tuesday/Wednesday for an 11 or 12 seed - in fact, these games are now called the "first round," and the round of 64 is the "second round." There are either 68 teams or 64 teams "in the tournament" - not 66.)
Between you, me, and everybody on the 20 or so threads where I have previously posted this, I think they shouldn't give an extra share of the TV money to the teams that win the "first four" games (it's rewarding two teams for not being good enough to make the round of 64 automatically), but it's the NCAA's money...
The play in games are just that. Since it doesn't include "everyone" it shouldn't be counted as a round, IMO.
At least the Men's Bball has a fun playoff system regardless of what anyone thinks, it's way better than the BCS BS.
Who's it going to be Kentucky, Syaracuse, Davidson, UNLV????????

HAHAHA. Seeing as they graduate less than 400 every year, my guess is that I am the only Davidson alumnis on the board, but we appreciate being included :)

Alenda Lux Ubi Orta Libertas -- Ne Ultra
Class of '67 and season ticket holder.
But Louisville will be a tough opponent, and Portland is too far away for me to make the trip, so I'm hoping we get some local coverage of the game on TV. Now if the 'Cats were to make it to the regionals, I'd have to ponder whether a trip to Phoenix is warranted. Besides, I've never visited the casinos there.
If that is the case there is no advantage/disadvantage for anyone, it just becomes 4 less points in the overall scheme of things. If anyone does see a way to pick those 4 games can you post on this thread for all to see. Thanks.
Quote: thlfThe way I see it there is no place to pick the winners of the 4 play in games. If I am wrong can someone let me know. This is the first time I am using this service for NCAA.

Quote:The (4) play-in games on 3/13 & 3/14 are byes – no predictions required. Predictions are required only for the (63) games beginning Thu, 3/15.
Play-in game teams will initially be displayed together as 1-selection, until the winner is determined, at which time the losing team will be removed.

Wonderful! I am class of 2008, I had the privelege of being there in the Steph Curry era. What a magical time. I assume you still live in NC?

I always have a soft spot for Davidson and St Mary's. No reason just like the underdogs.
Not "still" -- moved back to the area (Cornelius) during your senior year. Steph was a lot of fun to watch, and that was a fantastic NCAA run that year -- made it to the "Final 5", then got revenge this season. If you remember the numbers/names hanging in the Belk Arena rafters, I was a student when Fred Hetzel (44) and Dick Snyder (10) were playing. Another great era of Davidson basketball.Quote: bigfoot66Wonderful! I am class of 2008, I had the privelege of being there in the Steph Curry era. What a magical time. I assume you still live in NC?
Edit BTW sorry for hijacking the thread.
Never had either of them for a class, and they don't show up in my yearbooks, so I'm guessing they were after my time. The only "Holland" I remember at DC was Terry, who played basketball then immediately started coaching there, then coached UVa, then was AD at DC then AD at UVa. He is still coaching elsewhere now. The only faculty member I am aware of from my era who is still active is Hansford Epps, who is retiring this spring.
Yes, for further discussions of DC, it would probably be better to either use a different thread or take this to PM.
No, I did not use the NFL coin--though I did use some anti-cuse bias gotten from some annoying fans from the past....

Quote: NareedI can join to inflate the numbers, if that's of any help. But my interest in basketball lies only in how to avoid it :)
Look at it this way Nareed. Rather than a basketball pool, look at it as a numbers pool. You have 1 vs 16, 2 vs 15 etc. What are the odds. It doesn't have to have anything to do with basketball at all.

You have a lovely sense of humor :)

I joined. But picking seems too bothersome. I just don't care. Want to enter your picks in my spot? PM me about it.

I really don't want to enter your picks for you. I am assuming you probably don't get much telivision coverage for this either or do you? Like I said I think it would be interesting for you to just pick based on the seeding, 1 vs 16 etc. and see if you do better than the experts. I bet u would shit if you got them all right. You would make world news. Good luck if you do.
Quote: thlfI really don't want to enter your picks for you.
Too bad.
Quote:I am assuming you probably don't get much telivision coverage for this either or do you?
I've no idea. There are a nunch of sports cable networks available, but I only keep in my favorites list those that carry NFL games. I also ignore them entirely from February to September. I couldn't tell you what they show in between.

I picked at random. Sorry, but picking by number you either pick at random or pick the higher seeds to do better, that's why they're higher, yes?
Next year I won't say a word. Promise. Just don't start any baseball or soccer pools, ok? ;)

Quote: mipletNareed, you could do Obama's Bracket.
I'm a little surprised Obama doesn't do a women's bracket, especially considering that he has two daughters. (I can hear the Title IX naysayers now - "How important can women's sports be if the President, with two daughters no less, has a bracket for the men's tournament but not the women's one?")
I only care about the Women's Final Four. Too busy watching these games and playing golf.
