you all are going to laugh when i bring this back up but have you heard of mindplay? marking cards was exactly how the system would keep track of each card. at least from most of the stuff ive read about it. mindplay has since been eaten up and digested by bally and shufflemaster. it was the patents they wanted and for good reasons and now SG gaming owns both

I cant really tell when bally was acquired but shuffle master was bought in 2013 apparently... from the wikipedia pages

edit:

bally bought shuffle master (2013) and then SG games bought bally in 2014 apparently i would double check if i were you i spent a total of 2 minutes searching and used googles summaries from the search results by searching "sg gaming bally aquisition" and "sg gaming shuffle master aquisition".

Also if you go to sggaming.com you can see at the top they have links to both bally and shuffle master

That's pretty much the correct timing and sequence. Though I'm not sure what any of that has to do with acquisition of mind play by whatever division of whichever company was in charge at the time.

What cards did they mark? Aces? or what?

Are the players switching in marked cards, or gaffing them on the fly? Did you actually observe marks resulting in odd player behavior?
Nicks and bends have been a problem since the beginning of cards, so I can understand how problematic it is to catch a cheater in the act. The VIP room is closely watched, both by camera and floor personnel, so if you are not getting satisfaction, call for a deck change more often... or change card rooms. The Hustler, Bike, Garden or Commerce are 30 mins. away or less.

from what i understand it was an invisible magnetic ink or something like that... i have never dived into the exact details because i have just skimmed over them... although what i have read is kind of contradictive because the patents that shuffle master allegedly infringed on dealt with how the cameras recognized the chips on the table or how anything was recognized on the table... it was machine learning or something like that you would have to read up on it yourself because since this is somewhat old news i didnt feel it was worth taking the time to actually read all of what i found

and the mind play thing was simply a reference to where i had originally heard of the casinos choosing to mark the cards somehow... but like i said it was either magnetic invisible ink or the way the cameras recognized the cards... it might have been a combination of both as in the camera might have been able to see the ink somehow... back then they didnt have very good image recognition

From mindplay wikipedia :

MindPlay utilizes a specially-designed blackjack tabletop that incorporates many features to monitor players' actions:

Specially encoded playing cards, using invisible ink and barcodes; see card marking.
