Poker Mostly Sucks

I think another thing that has become quite common is more and more players are playing in formats that they don't fully understand. It never ceases to amaze me how few players can wrap their heads around limit hold'em. I don't think I have ever sat down at a limit game where 2 or more players haven't made an incorrectly sized bet at the incorrect time. It's not even worth talking about their strategic play.

However, my variance in poker is much more stable than in other casino games despite the ridiculous situations that occur.

Played in a home tournament game last night. Paying top 3, five players left. I am in small blind with AA. Button smooth calls, I smooth call, BB raises to 3x, Button calls, I push all in. BB thinks about it (I have both of them covered) and calls. Button now ponders it, then says he can't possibly lay it down, and also calls. Button flips KK, I show AA, and BB shows QQ. And miracle of miracles, my AA holds up which puts me in the money. Now there is a hand that never turns out that way on-line. QQ would have won that pre-flop three way showdown 80% of the time on Doyle's Room.

I suggest a new title of Online poker mostly sucks. ;-)
