What is your excuse for doubling 10 v 10?

I'm a new AP, and I got caught off guard on this recent trip.
I doubled 10 on 10 because the TC was +8, and I was caught off guard by the "That's a bad play, are you sure", and the "why are you doing that" comments from the dealer and other players.
I feel like it's easier to justify splitting 10s, I could just say "I have a feeling he's gonna bust"
But doubling 10 v 10?
What excuses do you guys use for that when you get asked?

Making plays to make the dealers point you out as a card counter. I'd blame it on inattentiveness or zoning out, but those are usually for soft totals that I forgot the basic strategy for.

double Tc +4 or better vs 10 and ace

This play makes it obvious you're looking for an Ace. At best, you're card counting. At worst, you're Ace tracking. Significantly increases heat either way.
