VIDEO POKER-VALUE OF PLAYERS TO CASINO

GIVEN THAT THERE IS A VEGAS COMMUNITY OF VIDEO POKER ADVANTAGE PLAYERS THAT PLAY MANY HOURS OF VP AT VARIOUS VEGAS VP COMPETITIVE CASINOS....OFFERING BANKS OF GOOD PAYOFF MACHINES, PROMOTIONS AND MAILERS VYING FOR PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN THERE CASINO FOR APPARENT POSITIVE EV PLAY; MY QUESTION MAY BE NAIVE.
BUT CAN THE FORUM MEMBERS EXPLAIN TO ME : WHY DO CASINOS COMPETE FOR THIS SLICE OF THE PIE? GIVEN THERE PROFITS MAY BE MINIMAL WITH THESE PLAYERS, IS IT JUST THE DESIRE FOR THE CASINO TO HAVE PLAYERS SIT AND PLAY IN THERE CASINO FLOORS TO DRIVE THE PERCEPTION THAT THE CASINO IS BUSY, AND HELPS DRIVE OTHER BUSINESS? IS THIS ONE OF MANY FACTORS. IF THIS IS A FACTOR, HOW IMPORTANT IS IT? (sorry for the “caps
“, next time will not do)

You might get better response if you pose your question in the forum rather than a blog, and turn off the caps lock.

They don't really compete for the "AP" business -- and why would they? They compete for the local gamblers' business, and the local gambler knows a good paytable, even though they may sometimes wander off to the Triple Double Bonus or Ghostbuster slots.

So Stations can advertise "100%+ payback" video poker and Boyd can give 7x points on certain days, and attract more of the local business while collaterally taking a hit from the [very] few AP's who have the discipline and knowledge to play the game correctly.
