Honeymoon in Vegas - help!
Hi All,First time i've blogged before but after my partner and I decided to honeymoon in Vegas (October 2011) I thought it best to ask you experts for some advice.
Now - me and my man have been to Vegas together 4 times (he loves poker and is a really good player and I love the table games) for short hols and stayed at.
MGM Grand, Venetian, Palazzo and Planet Hollywood.
As we are gonna be there for 2 whole weeks we are looking for something special - a suite in a hotel with a good casino - and we've narrowed it down to the following 2 hotels.
Wynn Encore (can't get into the Wynn)
Aria
I would REALLY appreciate anyones advice on these. Mainly on hotel suites, casino and poker room and table limits and overall crowd that are there as well as restaurants. Obviosuly we are trying to strike a happy margin of a good suite, a good casino, easy to get to or cab to the strip and general type of crowds that stay there (don't want to end up in surrounded by hundreds of teenagers and loud crazy crowds).
Don't get me wrong - we wanna have fun and have a memorable honeymoon - we just want to be able to sleep and have a bit of pampering and chill time as well. (we are in our late 30's).
All feedback and advice will be HUGELY appreciated!
Thanks one and all: Shaz, London, UK.

He is a lucky guy and will be happy as long as he is with you, no matter what hotel you select!
Many people making more than a short trip to Las Vegas make multiple hotel reservations so as to experience more than one place and perhaps get comps that they otherwise might not get since hotels are often loathe to comp for more than three or four days unless you already have a substantial history with them. Personally, I think the multiple moves are not really worth it, but many people do it.
I would put Planet Hollywood at the bottom of your list. Nice place but it won't have the more sedate atmosphere and peace and quiet of the Venetian or Palazzo.
Encore should be fine for you and might even have a slight advantage over the more prestigious but apparently less generous Venetian/Palazzo.
As always, determine what you want to be near so as to cut down on long hikes and cab fares. Rember that sharing a cab is fine in Vegas and to get the cabs at the hotel and not try to flag one down on the las vegas strip. Best of all though is to be near what you think you will be interested in.
Sure a slightly off strip place such as Tuscany Suites will give you a nice large room but for an anniversary trip you dont really want to go even slightly downscale or be even semiisolated by travel time.
I would avoid Aria since there are so many mixed reviews about their rooms. Comopolitan is becoming popular but just too many people are complaining about room problems and housekeeping issues.
There are sites that rate poker rooms so hubby may have some preferences and travel desires. Venetian's poker room is top rated for physical comfort and very high for overall rating.
Wynn is probably better on some table games but its a very slight margin.
You will want to visit different casinos even if you do most of your gambling at the place at which you are staying. Always join the players club even if its a brief visit.
Have fun!!

Since you're there for two weeks why not do both? Several people split time between casino resorts, especially if they can book back to back offers from different companies. Even if you're not booking comped stays there's nothing wrong with a change of scenery during such a long trip.
I think both mostly meet your other requirements.
Thanks Fleastiff - that's a huge help :-) Any other feedback and comments anyone?
Progrocker: have thought about changing hotels but wasn't sure of the hassle of it and uprooting after I get my HUGE cases unpacked - will run it by my man though :-)
Congratulations Shaz! I am sure you will both have a great time no matter which property you pick.
The Encore is further from the strip, and does not have it's own poker room. It's casino is a quieter version of the Wynn's. This appeals to some folks. The service and rooms are top notch, but you may find it inconvenient to be there for two weeks if you like to sightsee, as visits to other properties, even the Venetian "across the street" involve quite a bit of walking. The property is located on the north end of the main "strip" of hotels.
One special thing about the Wynn/Encore is that the beds are really comfortable. The matresses are custom made, and the linens are high thread count, top of the line.
The poker room at the Wynn is nice, but smaller than those at other high end properties. They spread games from $100 buy-in 2/5 NLHE, up to any amount you are willing to bring. Table games at the casino generally start at $15 minimum, with $25 being the most common.
There are a number of top notch restaurants at the Wynn/Encore. Unfortunately, there aren't too many inexpensive options. Expect to pay in the neighborhood of $4 for a .50 cent bottle of water.
I have not stayed at the Aria, but I understand that their poker room hosts some of the more exclusive high-limit games in town. The location is in the middle of the strip, and there is a complimentary shuttle that runs between several properties, so it is more convenient to visit other places, (but you will still need to walk a fair bit). The design is more "high tech" with more chrome, darker woodgrains, and . In the evening, the place is louder, darker, and more high-energy than WynnCore, if that appeals to you. Tables generally start at $15 with many more at $25 and up.
Again, congratulations, and have a great trip!
I stayed at Aria last year. The room was very nice. If it were any nicer, I'd probably feel uncomfortable staying there. I also liked the poker room there. They have a couple good tournaments per day. The location is excellent, with easy access to Monte Carlo, Bellagio and Planet Hollywood. IMO, dining at Aria is unacceptably expensive, so its nice to have direct access to a few alternative properties.
Hubby will love the fact that you are taking huge suitcases that are already full as this means you will not be shopping at those ridiculously over-priced specialty shops in Vegas casinos.
Have you considered the Monte Carlo as a hotel? Its rooms are nice even if the furniture is a bit out of style. The casino is okay. Don't know nothing about poker there, if any, but its close to other poker rooms.
Usual advice: Extra pair of walking shoes, WATER at each casino, a schedule planned out but don't worry too much about adhering to it.
Are you from Newcastle?!?
You will have a great time at the Wynn/Encore, no matter what. They try extremely hard, and it is worth the money you will spend. If either of you are big gamblers, you will get comped. The facilities are magnificent. It would make for a great honeymoon.
The Aria is really nice too, but it doesn't measure up to Wynn in my opinion. It would be a good second choice. (Better than Venetian). Both have great poker rooms, great table games, and aren't overrun with teenagers or other doofuses.
All of your advice everyone is really helpful - please keep it coming :-)
And yes - I'm from Newcastle so am an original Geordie :-)
re: Monte Carlo; I've stayed here, but casino is 15 years old and starting to show it. The poker room just upped their NL game to 1/3, plus they have a 2-6 spread limit game of hold 'em. Casino pumps in that perfumy aroma like Venetian does, makes the place smell like someone dumped an ashtray in my gramma's purse.
Wynn's entry level NL poker game is 1/3nl, not 2/5, same as Aria's. Aria has a separate hi-limit room where celebrities can be seen playing a hi-limit mix game. Cosmo has no poker room at all.
