Yup, I learned that the HARD WAY the first time...My mom was playing and I was sitting next to her and she was dealt AAAA2 (Playing 25c DDB) and she jumped up and said YES! and hit DRAW...she didn't realize she forgot to hold them (she figured because it was the biggest pat hand aside from Royal, it auto-held; in the case of a Dealt Royal it does) but nope..$500 down the drain. In those days, we didn't know we could call a slot tech and have them run it back. Luckily, over the course of the next few days, we hit about four Quad Aces on the same machine (never with a kicker again though) They say casino's aren't built on winners...
No...they're built on ignorance. |

That's about $6.50 down the drain (including the speculative value of the full house). Is it worth calling the tech over for that? If someone is playing on a $5 or $25 machine that is real money. (Not that $6.50 isn't). I can recall, on several occasions, having a card redraw, after I *thought* I held it. But it was a minor hand. Perhaps I was holding something like a low pair on a JOB machine. If one of them got redrawn, I don't assume the machine malfunctioned or 'is pulling a fast one." I assume that I missed when I hit the hold button - or simply forgot to hold it, or something. I.E. There's no emotional tie, helping to force the memory of holding a card, on a minor hand. Should it be reported, even when it's of little consequence? Yes. Because it's quite possible that there is an interittent short in the hold button. Only if it's reported will maintenance look at it. Will the report actually cause the machine to be checked out? Doubtful, which is probably why people don't report such manfunctions. Superstitions are silly, childish, irrational rituals, born out of fear of the unknown.
But how much does it cost to knock on wood? |

I was dealt 4 aces with a kicker on one of the newer machines that have a black background. It was my last dollar and the machine held the cards automatically one by one. It was pretty freaky... |
