Would a casino ban you for winning? I think not?

You say that in the old days you could play on because the casinos would get their money back. How is that different today?

That's too easy. It is simply that today's generation, exemplified even by some of the posters here, are brighter, more talented and more skillful than anyone before them. And probably after, too.

Thats actually true. A few of the pro's that
Munchkin interviewed in his book said that
what took them 10 years to learn 30 years
ago, can now be learned on a computer in
about 6 months. The skill level has gone up
in players, but the casino detection level has
gone up too.
One casino owner to another: "It would be so much easier if we could just hit them over the head, steal their money, and throw their bodies in the creek." Al Swearengen, Deadwood

I've seen that as well. The posters I referred to claim to have been banned for winning at games other than blackjack.
The point applies there, too. Many casinos (incorrectly) sweat the money not the perceived skill. It's more a problem of superstition and ignorance than anything. There was a scene in the TV show "Las Vegas" where a whale had come in and was burning up a roulette table on a hot streak. One member of management directed another member to back him off for "being too hot," while the other member (sorry, I can't remember who played which role in this episode) correctly argued that he would likely lose it all back if he kept playing (and if not, who cares — the casino has the edge every time the wheel spins). Ultimately the whale was backed off and went on to lose all his money at a neighboring casino. As ridiculous as this story sounds, there are plenty of people in casino management that think in such a short-sighted manner.

How do the "experts" measure those factors to be able to come up with such declarative statements?

So much for the efficacy of the vaunted anonymous "pros."
