Which Long Shot

Well we're just over a couple weeks away from our annual March Break trip.

My wife and I usually try to take a long shot on something while we're in Las Vegas.

I always take the NY Jets for $20 to reach the Super Bowl and $20 to win the Super Bowl. I typically get around 35 to 1 for the AFC Championship and 70 to 1 for the Super Bowl. That's my gamble though.

The last couple times we've played different denominations of the Wheel of Fortune slot. On the $1 machine we put in enough for 7 spins each or we let $100 ride on the $0.25 machine to see where it takes us.

Lately I've been thinking perhaps we could risk $200 on a $5 9/6 JoB machine at Wynn/Encore where we're staying and see where that takes us. $20,000 for a Royal Flush would be a tidy sum.

Is there a different longshot I should be looking at?

Put $20 on your favorite number in Roulette. Also pays 35 to 1

^ Agree but only if a single zero table. Otherwise it might even be possible to double up on Baccarat until you reach your desired target.

Jets to win SB should pay more than 100-1! Jets to make playoffs should be 70-1! I forget, do they have a coach? QB? Wide receivers? RB? I do remember they have the big offensive linemen who are always injured….

How about $5 on the fire bet in craps? If you are lucky enough to win it, it will take a while and the suspense will build.

This sounds fun to ME, but really the answer is what would be the most fun for YOU.

Have a great trip, we also usually go to Vegas in March but this year we are going to Florida instead.

Congratulations! My wife and I are still waiting for our first Royal on a single-line machine.

We hit a Royal on the draw of a 3-play $0.25 Super Times Pay JoB machine almost 10 years ago, but I'm still chasing one on a single-line machine.

I like the roulette one, but I doubt I'll come across a single-zero wheel for $20. I'll keep my eye out.

As for my Jets and the Super Bowl, I just looked at Vegas Insider and the Jets are running 150 or 200-to1. QB Zach Wilson and company showed some promise this last season. I would have liked to see more, but I'll take what I can get at this point.

I like your Fire Bet option SOOPOO. I actually completed an ALL bet for someone else when rolling on the don'ts at the Wynn several years ago and an ALL was made while I was playing at TI last summer. Maybe I'll hedge my bets (yes I know I'm not supposed to) and put a SMALL-ALL-TALL for $5 each when I'm playing the don'ts for one session.

The JoB bet is probably the most appealing to me as well. When my wife and I first started coming to Las Vegas we'd stick with 5 or 25 cent JoB since we were only willing to risk $40 for a session. However every once in a while we'd head over to the Venetian and play $1 JoB for $40 just to see where Lady Luck would take us. Sometimes we'd hit that Full House or Flush and cash out.

I have tried a double up on blackjack to try to go from $10 to $1000. I've also tried it on Craps at the Cromwell when they had 100x odds. It was $15 minimum and on my point of 4 I put $100 on the odds. I had a 7-out two rolls later. I might try the double up, but likely only on blackjack.

MEGABUCKS and slots in general have never really appealed to me. My wife and I had a go at the Lion's Share when it was down to that last machine, but slots have never really been a big part of our gambling when in Las Vegas.

A lot of companies do "Perfect Bracket" challenges. Most are around the $1,000,000 mark as far as prize. Good luck!

Yes, but that was only one tournament. I'd be interested if there is a perfect bracket since around 1980 when the tournament expanded to something close to todays.

No there’s never been a documented perfect bracket. And I’m not even aware of someone alleging a perfect bracket. A few years ago, someone on ESPN made it perfect to the sweet 16, if my memory is correct, then lost.

I heard Buffet's perfect bracket thing fell back to just employees of the companies he owns. I think it's down to $100,000 and it's the employee with the most correct selections before a loss. Not open to me anyway.

It's not likely that I'd bet on the NCAA tournament, but now I'm curious. What kind of bets do Las Vegas sportsbooks offer as far as the tournament goes? I feel like I'm opening a can of worms here...

And even that is relatively new. There was a time when the books could not take bets, including futures, on who would win the tournament as long as there was any chance that UNLV (or, when it joined Division I, UN-Reno/Nevada) could win. I think that in 1985, they allowed bets on "which non-Nevada team would finish highest in the tournament," and in 2001, bets (including on specific games) on the two schools were allowed.

I was there for the tournament a decade ago and places had some fun March Madness draft and auction tournaments.
