Video Poker Question Re Strategy Notes

I'm fairly certain the answer is "yes," but wanted to confirm. I know that for blackjack you can bring a basic strategy card to the table and refer to it for playing decisions. My question is, with respect to video poker, can I bring a paper print-out of the Wizard's strategy for whatever VP game I'm playing and refer to it for playing decisions? In case it matters, I'm most concerned about doing so in Las Vegas.

Can you? I think so.

Absolutely you can use a printed strategy chart. Looking it up on your phone though may be a different issue.

I know some people mention not being able to use a phone while playing, but has that lame law actually been enforced. What's the difference between phoning a friend and using google anyways? You're not going to get thrown in jail and paid even if you use a phone right? Even if a jerk security guard tried telling me I had to guess, I would protest by ignoring him and doing it any way.

I think the issue is the use of ANY "device", a strategy card not being a device. I don't know what the law is, but I think there is one. I just wouldn't mess with it. Get some software and study at home. If there's a particular hand you have trouble with, write it down and check it at home.

Generally the distinction is an electronic device can't be used.

Well, technically your brain uses electronic impulses. So it has to be "outside electronic devices."

One of the, cough, tech Giants has a working prototype of an almost paper thin screen that can roll into a tube shape, like you could paper. When you're able to tell it " Be quiet and pretend you're a piece of paper" things are going to get interesting ;-)

Obviously we could argue semantics that anything containing electrons is electrical.

I know that. And I still contend, that from the wording of this law, ALL slot machines are illegal.

Why? I would think the very last sentence covers that:"except as may be made available as part of an approved game or otherwise permitted by the Commission."

What if you used a device that did NOT give you an advantage?

For what it's worth, I spent a couple weeks this past June in Vegas casinos playing a ton of VP. I had Wizards's strategy chart bookmarked on my phone and was constantly referring to it. I didn't have any trouble and nobody in the sky confronted me.

It's worthless (not your post). It's not a problem, until it is.

Ok here's the situation. I doubt anyone will get in trouble for this, especially just someone trying to play a game with the best possible strategy on a -ev game or even something like 10/7 or FPDW.

My concern would be, if an advantage player found a juicy promotion and beat it silly. The casino could get mad and they might then push the issue. Perhaps they could use it as leverage or a reason to not pay you a promotion bonus or jackpot claiming you used an electronic device. You might win your case however who wants to go through that?

Perhaps some employee has a hard on for advantage players and he's just looking for a reason to 86 them or even worst call the cops. For an advantage player, It's not worth the risk losing a casino.
