Hi All WoV regulars... I created a WoV bracket contest on Yahoo, for the NCAA Men's basketball tournament. Sign up and show off your picking skill, or go buck wild with chaos theory. Follow the "Accept and invitation" link. The group ID is: 135842 and the pw = random

I gave it a shot despite having watched ONE entire college BB game in my life. You did say first place wins a full week RFB at Sahara this fall, right?

Of course you may have to pay up on that. There is some speculation that Nazarian (sp?) is really trying to dump a union and remodel/reopen again later. Also some other companies speculated to show some interest.

I'm in. My goal is to not get last place although that rarely happens. This year I changed my game plan a bit. I don't even have a single double digit seed in the Final Four. That didn't work out so well in previous years.

We don't have to put anything on it, I just figured that most here would want to. However, I was thinking somewhere in the friendly 10-20 dollar range.

What's the odds of picking the winner on these "brackets"?

Interestingly, the picks are not coin flips. Since the teams are seeded with the "strongest" playing the "weakest", successful picking requires some degree of skill (and a whole bunch of luck). One upset destroys millions of brackets, and there has not been a year where a lower seeded team did not beat a higher seed.

Yahoo had 4.6M entries in 2009. No one got all of them correct. In fact the best brackets got, not one or two, but five wrong.

According to this article, your chances of picking all 63 games successfully at random would be 1-in-2^63. Even if you were sure of 20 of the games, and had to guess on the other 43, your odds would still be 1-in-9 trillion.

As far as I know, there was one person who picked a "perfect" bracket (but I can't track down the info right now.. I'll get to it later). This is why they can offer $1M prizes (paid over multiple decades) for contests that do not have an entry fee.

I do not think there has ever been a person to pick a perfect bracket in the 64 team era. I would guess by the end of the 4th game today there are less than 1% still alive. (Morehead State over Louisville, 3 other pretty even contests).

It's very early yet but I'll enjoy it while I can :) I missed Morehead St and I had Penn St over Temple.

There's a cool feature on there that allows you to build scenarios and see who would be in the lead based on which team wins each game.

Are you looking at the possible points column? Thats the only area where I see someone below you with a higher total.

All that possible points column represents is if you picked every other game in your bracket correctly the higher score you can get. Since you have 2 teams in the sweet sixteen that have lost and the guy below you has no losing teams in the sweet sixteen his theoretical points is currently higher.

Well, just like the last 10 years or so, my National Champion pick goes down in the 2nd round. And like always, it appears I will be in last place. Good luck to all of the rest of you. Remember, never put money on a Big East team to win it all.

I am surprised at how many entrants picked Kansas (10) vs. overall number one seed Ohio State (5) to win it all. Are we that much smarter than the tournament selection committee?

Wow, I'm in last place and already have two of my final four and one of my finalists out. It figures. I did a bracket just by my instant gut feelings, but didn't use it. That one went 26/32 in the first round and 11/16 in the 2nd!

Moral of the story - your initial reaction is frequently the best choice.

I guess it could happen.... VCU is still in the hunt to win it all, and if they do, Nareed will be crowned champion of this year's WoV NCAA Tournament Bracket.

If Connecticut can get past Kentucky, it will be a fight to the finish between Cellar Doors, Boymimbo and Slyther, with several others still in the hunt. A UConn championship will give it all to Boymimbo. Good luck to all in contention.

I'm still shocked beyond belief I did so well. I'm usually near the bottom of the barrel, but that is also when there are many more #1 and #2 seeds in the later rounds!

I see 4 different possible outcomes (correct me if I'm wrong as i'm not the best at reading brackets)

Kentucky wins versus UCONN and VCU loses the championship or doesn't advance - ImperialPalace wins
VCU wins the championship - Nareed wins
UCONN wins versus Kentucky but loses the Championship - I win
UCONN wins the Championship - Boymimbo

Well, VCU gave Nareed a good ride, but came up short against the stingy Butler defense (and cost me an honor credit to Its Called Soccer). With a Butler UConn final set, here is how it shapes up:

Going into the final the top four are:
1. Cellar Doors - 81 points
2. Boymimbo - 79
2. Slyther - 79
4. Brandon Davies - 67

Which would be the order of finish if Butler should win, as no one in our group picked them to win it all.

If UConn wins, it would shake out as follows:
1. Boymimbo - 111 points
2. Brandon Davies - 99
3. Cellar Doors - 81
4. Slyther - 79

Good luck to all, and thanks for playing!

Congratulations Boymimbo! UConn's victory (Well, Butler's horrible second half shooting) sealed the deal on your come from behind victory. Good picking to edge out Brandon Davies by 12 points, and also become the only player with a three digit score. Our brackets salute you!
