Obama had a black father and white
mother, and he's called our first
black president.
Tiger Woods has a black father and
a Thai mother, and he's called a famous
black golfer.
Yet if you have a Chinese parent and
a white parent, you are not called Chinese.
Or Vietnamese parent and a white parent
is not a Vietnamese.
But if just one of your grandparents was
Native American, you can identify as a
Native American like Liz Warren tried to
do.
And why is the only way to be white is to
have both parents white. None of it makes
any logical sense.
I never thought of Omama as black, he's
mixed race, not black.

I seem to recall during the whole Trayvon Martin sh*tshow that the media dubbed Zimmerman as white even though he was clearly Hispanic.

Why aren't all Hispanics called
white in the media, then.

Sometimes less. There was a fight over a kid who was 1/64 Indian Blood. That's one great-great-great-great-grandparent.

I do recall that. That is interesting as I work in the mortgage field. On a mortgage application in the GMI (Government monitoring) section it asks for: Ethnicity, Sex, Race.
Hispanic/Not Hispanic are the only choices for ethnicity.
For Race there are far more choice such as Asian, White, Black, Native American, Native Hawaiian.

I have dealt with the same forms. The binary "Hispanic/Latino" always made me wonder as well. Maybe they consider Hispanic to be "European" but "not quite White." I would say if the feds are so worried about race, just throw it in with all the other races.
The lamestreams, they were just playing games. Then they wonder where the trust in them went.

I don't think that standard was applied so strongly to people of Asian or Hispanic backgrounds.
They aren't strictly complementary, so someone who is half Japanese half white might very well find themselves not accepted by either group as one or the other.

It's not applied at all. If Obama had
been half Hawaiian and half Chinese,
he would have been called neither.
He would be a 'hapa', which is Hawaiian
for 'half'. Any mixed heritage person
there is called a hapa. But not Obama,
he's black.
That's true, certain forms have boxes for white non-hispanic. Used to know a guy, blond hair and blue eyes that was Mexican, my memory is a little sketchy of his family, but pretty sure he said they were all dark complexion, dark eyes, but him.
