The mods can't break threads because it's so long, so let's start over. Each month GWAE can start a new thread, topics can be broken off if need be, Johnny come latelys can comment and it will make sense, not 400 pages ago.

So Dec 2017 miscellaneous thread
January 2018 miscellaneous thread
February 2018 miscellaneous thread.

How about banning miscellaneous threads?

I mean, what is the point? How difficult is it to create a thread for each new topic, instead of just adding to miscellaneous thread?

I don’t know about other people, but I totally ignore the miscellaneous threats because they’re miscellaneous.

What about things that are way too insignificant to warrant an entire thread?

For example, I found a really cool “The Alamo: The Price of Freedom” souvenir shot glass as the the goodwill the other day.

There has been quite the fire for net neutrality. I don't even bother getting into but I want to, because it is a mess. I like separate threads, they encourage participating, they encourage people to add value.

The problem is people are afraid to post separate threads now. Everything is miscellaneous. If there are not big coincidences and small coincidences, are there big miscellaneous topics and small ones which don't deserve threads?

IMO, for "big" stuff that people would talk about and go into detail and debate and hwatnot, a new thread should be started instead of posting about it in the miscalinius thread, since, ya know, it's not really that-funny-word-no-one-can-spell-without-googling-it.

What about things that are way too insignificant...?

Things that are "way too insignificant" for a thread probably should not be posted. Period. That avoids hundreds of WoV members having to waste time reading "stuff" that is already known to the original poster as being "way too insignificant."

I seldom read the Miscellaneous thread. But, if WoV really needs a place for posts that are "way too insignificant" for their own thread, then maybe the Miscellaneous thread serves a purpose. Maybe.

I just re-read this thread and stumbled upon something significant.

EXACTLY why individual threads for each topic should be started.

I would prefer my opinion didn't carry any more weight on this than a member's. But I liked the monthly misc suggestion very much.

There have been several threads the past few months that developed from a random comment in the main one and would have been worth their own. If the split threads mechanism worked better on long threads, I would have split them out.

But loading 400 pages of comments, which is upwards of 2000 posts, just to pull 4-6 out of the end, is a lot to ask of my phone. It also formats very poorly there and doesn't always work. A shorter thread, it's no problem.

Otoh, the large majority of misc posts don't develop into a conversation. They're usually worth seeing, but that's about it.

And the misc thread gets used for a lot of non-gambling commentary, an acceptable collecting place for stuff Mike asked to keep to a minimum.

So, in all, the monthly thing seemed like a very good way to manage all those objectives.
If the House lost every hand, they wouldn't deal the game.

Yep. DJTeddy must not have a lot of forum experience. Some sort of "random stuff" or "what are you thinking?" thread is essential to keeping these places afloat, especially as forums are less popular now. The last thing you want to do is have people post less because not everything they'd like to share feels threadworthy.

The other keys are to have threads for random pictures/memes and videos, but that requires being able to post videos and images easily. I think it's been a few months since I've said this, but if you want this forum to last as long as possible and be as active as possible, the number 1 thing to do is make posting pictures and videos a matter of pushing a button, instead of going to find the code, copying it, pasting it, copying the url, pasting the url.... it's tedious enough just saying how to do it, never mind doing it.

I was on forums where you could do this 15 years ago. I know there are probably barriers that I don't know about, but it's worth climbing over them.

There are a few very good reasons. Take a look at the everything las vegas Facebook page we are in. Someone will ask or post something interesting or needing real help. Then 23 People post a picture of them landing in vegas. Now that import post is lost.

Same applies if not more for forums. If I come here and there are 29 new threads and they are all about politics, cabinets, passports, and random miscellaneous things then I am probably not going to come often.

Without having a miscellaneous type thread then there are going to be times where I have nothing important to post. Again without a sense of participation then I will probably visit less. At least with the block feature if you dnt want to visit a misc thread then you can block it. If there are 43 miscellaneous discussions then it becomes cumbersome to block.
Expect the worst and you will never be disappointed. I AM NOT PART OF GWAE RADIO SHOW

2:50 in, the question about how loud all cars having car alarms going off, is kind of answered. Think Rxwine mentioned it a long time ago.
I'm sure it would be pretty loud. Also doesn't make sense, you would think you would go deaf, but can hardly imagine it true. Maybe it just seems louder but really isn't to your ear.
