I second the motion . . .

I had 1 entry for Las Vegas in my blog, and lots of LA visits with a side trip to Mexico:

https://wizardofvegas.com/member/lostwages/blog/#post1410

Meanwhile, I'm hoping you or another reader has some tips for finding Prime Rib. I can Google and Yelp, but in my experience, I've enjoyed getting recommendations from fellow posters.

Don't want the inexpensive Prime Ribs from buffets because I'm willing to spend a little bit more on a sit-down dinner or lunch for my upcoming birthday visit to Las Vegas this coming April.

Here are the 5 top places to enjoy Prime Rib according to Haute Living.

http://hauteliving.com/2011/04/top-5-places-to-order-prime-rib-in-las-vegas/147997/

First Food & Bar, Primarily Prime Rib, The Prime Rib Loft, Morton's The Steakhouse, and Strip House.

Have any of you have eaten at any of these places? Please share your comments! Or maybe you've been to a different prime rib place?

Haven't been to any of those places, but the LVA QotD today is on the topic of prime rib restaurant offerings. Not a lot of info, but it has a reference to a survey/review they published some time ago.

I dont think you can go wrong Morton's.There are lots of good buffets that serve good prime rib, so unless you are looking for a fancy place, I would go with a really nice $40 buffet.

If you don't mind the price, and appreciate "Classic Las Vegas" ambience, check out "The Golden Steer". After dinner, you can walk to the new "Lucky Dragon" casino.

See what I mean about recommendations? Gosh durn, now I have to juggle between your Morton's (my wife has been to a Morton's before) and the old classic Vegas "Golden Steer". Maybe I'll get some more recommendations or ideas after I review the LVA of Anthony Curtis.

In the last 5 min, I've been juggling between Morton's & Golden Steer. I read Anthony Curtis's LVA Prime Rib thought of the day, but those choices don't meet my criteria. . . since we've never been to Golden Steer, I'm leaning towards that place. And I really appreciate the idea that you suggested we walk over to the new "Lucky Dragon" casino - perhaps we'll win back our dinner bill!

However, we still have another 27 days before we leave for Las Vegas. Hope to get more recommendations!

First Food & Bar, Primarily Prime Rib, The Prime Rib Loft, Morton's The Steakhouse, and Strip House.

Prime Rib Loft is my favorite prime rib in the world. Used to be $13 for lunch (small 10 oz, which is now $24). Now it's not even open for lunch.... At least it's open Mon & Tue now. The old expensive restaurant at the Orleans (forgot the name) had the exact same prime rib as the Loft at a more expensive price.

$24-32 now (10 oz - 24 oz) :-(
Better deal to get the bigger portions, and split for 2 people.

Used to be able to have a big portion cooked two ways - e.g. 1/2 regular, 1/2 blackened, or 1/2 English cut (thin).
It's no longer an option, but you can ask the waiter/waitress if they can do it.

http://static.boydgaming.net/orleanscasino10/media/downloads/prime-rib-loft-dinner-menu.pdf

P.S. The Prime Rib in the buffet is pretty good too (just not aged). Might want to try the buffet prime rib first.

See what I mean, Verne? OK, now that I have more recommendations, I can Yelp. But Mamat must have missed his calling, as he could make a terrific "Secret Shopper" or food reviewer. Or maybe he's already "secret" (?).

Thanks loads for the recommendation AND the menu, and the way you write about food!

Greetings!

After presenting this idea to the other Admins who are generally active in direct Forum Administration, and Secret Admins who are generally active in Forum Administration, by majority vote (one abstained/was neutral) this passes and we will now have such a Sub-Forum on here to start in the very near future.

I definitely want to thank everyone for bringing this up and I certainly hope that this new sub-Forum sees some action!

My opinion of the matter is not the end all and be all, but I would suggest that the Sub-Forum could apply to any dining in Vegas (this being WizardofVegas) whether or not that dining be inside of a casino.

When it comes to other locales, then I would suggest that we would probably want to limit other dining threads to dining that is actually inside of a casino if that casino is not in or near Vegas. I would also suggest that the thread title would do well to indicate the state or otherwise allude to the location of the casino if it is not in Vegas.

Again, there may be some changes and I am just shooting from the hip to give you an answer on how I would handle this. If Wizard decides to handle it differently, then I will let you know.

There is also going to be a New Thread started in the Sub-Forum to discuss the goals of the Sub-Forum in terms of what sorts of threads should be put there.

I'll start that thread and will have clarification on this matter by then. It will be a Sticky Thread.

After discussing it with Wizard, we are in perfect agreement. Any restaurant in or around Vegas, whether or not in a casino would be topical. Any restaurant outside of the Vegas area would be topical, but it would have to be physically in a casino.

Getting the bigger. portion may be the better deal but you have to factor in if you are alone or with a buddy. If you are alone, would they allow you to take a doggy bag for the next day's lunch? Because getting enough for two people when you are alone is really daunting.

Hmm. I might differ.

Some casinos have really bad food (e.g. Table Mountain in Friant, CA), so it can be useful to know good places to eat nearby.

I like Limon, a nearby Peruvian restaurant. However, it's 16 miles away (Indian casinos are often in remote locations).

I understand your point, but I suppose that's kind of the problem. With so many states (and other jurisdictions) having casinos now, if we don't limit it to just casinos (outside of Vegas) we may well be having a dining thread for 60% of the restaurants in the entire country, or what have you. It's just that we mainly want to focus about being a Vegas and gambling site.

On the other hand, if you were to create a thread called, "Eateries Near Table Mountain Casino (CA)" and then talk about nearby places in that thread, then that would be fine. We just want the thread titles to either relate to Vegas (general) or a specific casino (elsewhere). It would mainly be about the thread titles.

Hi, Mission146! Just got back from our 5-day visit to Las Vegas, and have some short stories about dining experiences. Is the new dining section out? If not, I'll just make a brief TR. Thanks, and have a nice day!

For Vegas there is a section that already works for that in the, 'Las Vegas Casinos,' section. Trip reports are definitely more fun, though! ;)

OK, thanks for getting back to me. I interpret your answer to mean there will NOT be a new dining section, at least for now.

No worries. I will add an entry to Las Vegas Casinos, and make a separate thread about the 2 non-casino restaurants we tried in Las Vegas.

I'm not sure now because, as ThenWhatHappens pointed out, there have already been threads created in the Vegas Casinos section for each individual casino to discuss restaurants. It seems that a new section devoted to dining would be redundant, now, unless it was mainly for places outside of Vegas.

No worries, Mission146. I mostly see my glass as 1/2 full vice 1/2 empty. I will fill in some of the blanks under Las Vegas Casinos, as JB has already provided quite an outline to use. For the non-Casino outlets. I'll just make separate threads and take it from there. Thanks for your comments, thought, I appreciate that after the long "wait".
