So, a few weeks ago my host sent me an email. I was not able to be at casino for a promotion they were having and he said he would just email me the certificate instead. Attached to the email, he accidentally forwarded a pdf file of the top 4,800 rated players at the casino. Name, address, ADT, etc... from #1 player on down, who all qualified for the promotion. I'm guessing that this is a pretty important list that's not supposed to be shared. I don't know what to do now. Should I tell them they sent it to me? Should I just forget I ever saw it? Are there other hosts out there that may want this information? I'm kind of torn over it, because I love my host and would never want to get him in trouble. So I'm afraid that if I send it back, his boss might see it and he'd be in deep... On the other hand, if it's possible I could benefit from this information, should I consider sharing it with a host from another casino? Just wondering...

Call your host and ask him what you should do with it.

Second best choice is delete it. Nothing good can come from having this knowledge. Even if you benefit short term, there is long term high risk in disseminating personal financial information for your own gain. It is a serious FEDERAL crime.

You have acquired this list by error on the part of the casino. There may be legal problems associated with attempting to disseminate this list to other casinos, but since you have no confidentiality agreement concerning this list you may be prevail. However, you have already acknowledged that you are in possession of something that you know you should not have, so there may be a claim of Tortious Interference with Economic Advantage that could prevail for the casino if they were to go after you.

I would suggest that you call your host directly and let him know what happened, perhaps he will work a little something extra for you for your honesty. In any case, regardless of what he does after you contact him, I suggest that you delete the E-Mail and then delete it from your Trash.

Furthermore, if you were to go to other casinos with this information and a Manager of some kind were to put himself in the position of the other casino, it is quite possible that he would call them and let them know what you are trying to do as he would not want such done to him in the event of a mistake.

Calling your host directly is also preferable to just deleting it, that way your host can go through his sent E-Mails and insure that it was not accidentally attached to anything else, and so that he will also be more careful in the future. Will he try to keep this from his boss? Quite possibly. However, as soon as you call him and then delete the E-Mail, it becomes none of your concern what happens after that.

I am not a lawyer, almost forgot that.

No problem, just delete it. Email your host and tell him what he did and ask him to be more careful from now on. That could be your information floating around out there too.

I say call the host, I woud suggest you have a better chance of getting a deal out of it while still being honest. The host will want as little record of being notified of this as possible, and he may want to give a reward without being obvious about it, which an E-Mail could be.

I did mention it to my host, asked him if he wanted me to reply to the email notifying him of the attached list. He said no, just let it go. If the list were just trimmed down to names and addresses, its little more than an educated cold call list, no? It's not like I have SSNs or bank statements. Even including the ADT on there, don't people and companies buy and sell information all the time?

But did you sleep at a Holiday Inn Express?

I agree with Mission. Call your host.

Damn, here I was just trying to do the right thing. Not trying to capitalize on it. Silly me.

I suspect the OP gets plenty of comps already if he's on that list, anyway. :-)

Call your host and explain how your friend Mr. Host at Competing Casino has a lot of interest in the list. Of course you would never give it to him. Then explain how you would be happy to return it them, but that you heard a rumor that some hosts regularly reimburse players for airfare....

Delete the final name, add your name at the top ... and send it back to the host.

OK, I've had a few different hosts in the past. All of them with Caesars and I liked them all. They all were very accommodating and actually quite nice people. Yeah, I know their job is to have me think that and to keep coming back with my action. I guess they all were successful in their jobs, because I do. I myself wouldn't try to jack them up over it. My experience is that what goes around comes around. I'd just delete it and ask them to be more careful next time. I'll be taken care of no matter, that's their job.

Just call him and let him know.

I'm guessing you'll be winning a "random" drawing soon.

If it was me, I'd keep the list just because it's interesting, but I wouldn't do anything with it.

I second that...recently I was given privy information (not really, just kinda backtracked easy URL's) and found out the top players monthly bounceback (actually more like found out IT WAS THE SAME AS MINE!; Hence I am a top player!)
Kinda interesting that these people get the SAME treatment as me...just they play TONS more than I do! (Therefore -EV)

I imported some Tungsten from China, and my import broker sent me his taxes (instead of his tax guy) and I opened it up wondering what it was and I could see all the details of his operation. LOL.

When I told him what happened, he just about freaked out.

I have also gotten a list of high rollers from my casino host. It's not that big of a deal.

But in both cases, you're best off just deleting the file and pretending it never happened as far as even thinking of using it for anything besides a laugh. I wouldn't spend a single brain cell trying to learn anything from it as it could only lead to bad things!

Even if you have a legal right to share information that was inappropriately given to you (and I absolutely wouldn't assume that you do!), doing so is just taking an unnecessary risk.

I have never received tax returns, but I have received, on more than one occasion, someone else's invoice, purchase order info, quarter or year to date inventory statements from companies I deal with. I have never sold or blackmailed anyone based off this info, but I have read it, and used it to my advantage as often as possible.

I would also not delete it.
