i used to be an vip player there (it was easy to obtain considering my competition is 80year old ladies on stroller playing nickel slots), chairman level i believe, when they were Trump Marina. Ever since they went through the name change and the upgrade this year I have never returned, however i'm curious if anyone have any experience w/ the new "golden nugget" marina: good or bad.

most notably, do they still have a small clientiele base? and can their comps still be achieved at a rapid rate? usually if i come down to marina and play 3hrs of craps at 100-200 per roll i'm guaranteed rooms and food, (back when they ran the 10x comps wknd promotions i can even trade up to their upscale steakhouse) are any of that still likely?

You are aware that your Trump status still works at the two other trump properties, right?

I'm planning on going there in a couple weeks - primarily to get a player's history started so I might get good rates in Vegas. There's a 99% chance I'll be going to Vegas in July for a family reunion, and the destination being talked about is Golden Nugget.

yes, even now when it's under construction i'm told my comps still will be hounoured from trump marina days at golden nugget, but my question is more on the subject of whether it'd WORTH it for me to go down there anymore, i usually do down there b/c for the smallest play sum i can the best relative treatment of all AC casinos, i'm wondering now that gn has taken over if this status would change.

I'm confused. You guys are talking like the change is way in the past. I was at the Trump Marina 29 days ago (still Trump branded). Did the change finally take place this month?

Honestly, I haven't been to AC since tables opened in PA. I'm hoping to go to AC, and the GN, in time to get some history so I can get a good room rate at GN in Vegas in July.

I really have no idea what the current status is.

Not as of last Thursday. And it sure didn't look as if much was going on.

Seeing the photo (actually, artist conception drawing) that Paco posted, forced me to investigate further.

Google is your friend.

The first thing I found was the page where Paco found that image:
www.goldennugget.com/specials/eblasts/trump_gn.html
The headline reads:
Trump Marina is becoming the Golden Nugget Atlantic City!
Look for exciting changes to be completed by Fall 2011.

So, it looks like it's still gonna be a Trump location for awhile....

On the other hand, the FAQ page addresses a lot of these concerns.

That is sure kissing off the four or five best months of the year in Atlantic City.

I saw that notice about the fall, but I thought it referred to the construction work, not the actual acquisition.

When Landry's acquired Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, they published the notice in January of 2005 of intent to purchase, settled in September 27th of 2005.
After that the remodel went as follows:

Addition of Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse (December 2005)
Addition of Lillie’s Noodle House (February 2006)
Addition of VIP room (February 2006)
Remodel of North Tower lobby (February 2006)
Addition of high-limit slot salon (February 2006)
Renovation of porte-cochere (March 2006)
Remodel of spa, salon and fitness center (May 2006)
Relocation of Poker Room (July 2006)
Addition of Perfect Timing high-end watch shop (August 2006)
Renovation of The Showroom at the Golden Nugget (October 2006)
Addition of Rush Lounge (October 2006)
Addition of Grotto Italian Ristorante (October 2006)
Remodel of Carson Street Café (October 2006)
Addition of Style & Trend clothing boutique (October 2006)
Renovation and addition of The Tank, the pool at the Golden Nugget and Dive Bar (November 2006)
Relocation and expansion of the Race and Sports Book (November 2006)
Addition of Keno Lounge (November 2006)

I was there last Wed and Thurs. Trump has ceased all advertising for the Marina, all the billboards I saw only hawked the Plaza and Taj. When we arrived (8pm on a Tues), there was no one in line for check-in, it took about 5 minutes and we went straight up to our room (one of the nice things about Marina is because it's so small, it takes 2 minutes to get about anywhere). Rooms were nice quality, about on par with the Trop AC. The bathrooms weren't fancy, but they were kept very clean.

As for the casino, it's small and the table pit roughly runs straight through the slots, with about 3/4 of the slots on one side and 1/4 on the other. Limits were very low...blackjack, craps, Spanish 21, and roulette could all be had for $5 or $10 (there is $1 blackjack but it has the nasty quarter ante). Blackjack was AC standard (8d, H17, DAS, no RSA, split to 3 hands), craps was 5X odds. The poker mutants (Flop, MS Stud, etc) could be had for $5 or less. There was an larger than average amount of baccarat at Marina, all $15 min EZ baccarat tables on the main floor. The high-limit tables were mostly quiet, but there was $25 and $50 blackjack and $50 midi baccarat open.

I'll be interested to see what Landry's does with the property. The casino is really small and I'm not sure how much room they really have to work with there. It could definitely use a refreshing of the decor, but to seriously contend with Revel and Borgata it's going to need a lot of work.

I have a very limited range of interest: When will/did they start using chips that say "Golden Nugget -- Atlantic City"?

One more opportunity to add to the collection. :-)

I have one of their $2.50 chips....much more interesting colors than their $5 chip. Then again, AC casinos mostly use the same edge spot patterns for each denom, so the only variance between casinos is the edge spot colors used.
