Been up since 3am with paperwork hassles. G'nite early; more Biloxi tomorrow.

Here's one about the Grand: http://www.sunherald.com/2013/12/17/5201415/biloxis-unfinished-casino-will.html

And this one is more general: http://www.sunherald.com/2014/01/11/5251506/south-mississippi-casinos-raising.html

I'm not clear on the plans for "Harrah's Gulf Coast." On the beach side, they'll clean up the debris and construct a boardwalk and "entertainment lawn." But there are no specific intentions for the Casino Magic property. On the inland side, they're redesigning and renovating, but not necessarily expanding. They really need a larger casino.

Elsewhere on the Coast, both Margaritaville and the Silver Slipper are adding hotels. Those are both difficult locations. Margaritaville is tucked into a corner north of the Palace, and the Slipper is five miles south of US 90.

Two new casinos have been approved for construction: an Ernest Hemingway-themed resort in Gulfport (I hope they have cats), and the Scarlet Pearl in D'Iberville, apparently on the north side of Back Bay, opposite the IP and Boomtown in Biloxi.

slightly less fancy toiletries than before (no shoeshine kit, shower cap, or mouthwash, but still gilcrest and soames products).

I can share supplemental information on this important topic. At the delightful Palace Casino Resort, the products are Aromae Botanicals. Included during my stay were shampoo, conditioner, lotion, two bars of soap, body wash, shower cap and mouthwash. PLUS ... a loofah!

And there were four sets of towels, the theoretical maximum for a standard room.

Compare that to Treasure Bay, which furnishes only two sets of towels, and secures the toiletries within bulletproof dispensers:

(Plus two more near the sink.) The dispensers are configured for hand soap, body lotion, body wash, and the environmentally friendly shampoo/conditioner combination.

But Treasure Bay redeems itself with an unexpected surprise in the beverage accessory division:

Yes, those are tongs. I had a bad time trying to grasp the tiny hotel ice cubes, but I felt very elegant while making the attempt.

Rinse them glasses first though!

Hotels often try to be really cheap with toiletries. Its much better to just issue a standard kit that is generous and not try to ration rooms to a 88 cent tube of goop that women like to use in the shower. One annoyed customer will undo thousands of dollars in advertising.

All casinos have gift shops that sell sundries such as Q-tips, razors, blades, This, That and The Other Thing. Say what you like about the clientele at the old Terribles in Vegas, at least they kept the prices there reasonable.

Margaritaville is the place that ended one woman's career... an acrobat died and those headlines can't be undone.

Most of the casino growth seems to have been outside of Biloxi. With all the name changes and changes between temporary and permanent quarters, I'm not able to comment except to state that although Isle of Capri has a different name and a different location now, I still won't set foot in the place. Darn near decked a Stick Man there!
