According to FY2007 abstract, the 25 casinos made $1640 million of which $923 million was from gaming. The net profit for the year was 7.1%.
According to FY2012 abstract, the 23 casinos made $1260 million of which $652 million was from gaming. The net loss for the year was 8.1%.

That is $652 million over 23 casinos, and a single racino in Philadelphia ( PARX ) cleared $500 million in one year. Aqueduct racetrack and racino brought in $667.7 million in it's first year without any table games.

In 2009 there were five casinos that made over $72 million gaming revenue in the fiscal year
ATLANTIS CASINO RESORT
PEPPERMILL HOTEL & CASINO
ELDORADO HOTEL & CASINO
HARRAH'S CASINO HOTEL RENO
SILVER LEGACY RESORT CASINO

In 2012 there are only two (Atlantis and Peppermill).

Is there any possibility of a reversal for the original gaming city? It seems like Atlantis and Peppermill are determined to keep the resort business, but it looks like the downtown will continue to drop.

Downtown may continue to drop for gaming but not necessarily for real estate. I think Reno drug enforcement has for quite some time been a tool used to affect casino values.

I don't get the drug enforcement tool comment could you elaborate a little?

Downtown Reno is nothing but slum and flop-houses....until they teardown all of them, it'll suffer from urban blight...
Now, Peppermill honestly has the nicest suites in Reno...but Atlantis is right behind them...also, Atlantis is physically connected to the Reno/Sparks Convetion center, so that really helps....

Crime particularly crack house ownership, zoning for flop houses, sentences, bail, etc. can all be used to perpetuate high crime areas. Without buffers near the casinos bums wander in and decent customers often fade away.

Harrahs Reno gives me great return offers, far better for equal play than other CZR casinos, but there is nothing else to do in DT Reno.

Gamble more, duh!
The funnier part is...Atlantis and Peppermill give SQUAT for comps/bounceback...because they dont NEED return customers...they've GOT return customers!
As for myself, GSR has everything I want (great buffet, bowling alley, great rooms, good action at the crap table)

There are good restaurants, bars, coffee shops, clubs, concert venues, and art galleries in downtown Reno, none of which even reside in the casinos. In the casinos themselves, you have plenty more to offer. Even Harrah's has a unique feature—beer pong.

I would be interested in knowing some good restaurants downtown that aren't in the casino's. I have eaten at a few pizza places there, but some nicer restaurants that you could recommend would be appreciated.

Well, I know for a fact, that downtown is always CRAWLING with people when the weather is nice, on the weekend nights...TONS of clubs and bars..and always a "crawl" going on...
But unless you're 21-35...you probably won't want to be doing that kind of stuff...

I like Pho777. It's good and cheap. Right across the street from Harrah's. BUT stay away from anything with meat! **BARF**

For me, the biggest surprise is that Silver Legacy couldn't pull in $72 million. It seems that every night I'm there, the Legacy is totally crowded, especially compared to Harrah's.

Circus Circus is in the same league as Baldini's??? Baldini's has no table games and only 540 slots! Meanwhile, JA Nugget has over 1,000 slots and 36 table games.

Depressing....

Boomtown isn't included in the results? I visited during Presidents Day and had a good time. Apparently my play paid off—I had a free room offer from the mail then, and today I received an offer for 3 free nights (Sun.–Thu.)!

I was sad to see Circus Circus removed its poker room (they expanded the sports book area). I loved the $15 (then $17) poker tournaments. (I had 3 second-place finishes in my lifetime.)

The casino in general has not had much action that I've seen on my recent visits as in the mid-2000s. I'm happy, however, that the slot games they put on the Midway floor are gone. First they remove Fascination, then they put slots in the kids area. Blasphemy!

I was in the Reno area for the first time ever a few weekends ago. I was planning on gambling a fair bit at Lake Tahoe, but due to a skiing injury I couldn't really get around. On the way back to the airport, I managed to squeeze in a couple of hours at the Club Cal Neva, and promptly lost a bundle.

But anyway, my impression of Reno (and my girlfriend's impression) is that it is kind of a shithole (her word, not mine lol). Granted I was on crutches, so I didn't get to explore as much as I would have liked. She dropped me off at Harrah's; after being disgusted at two 6:5 tables and not wanting to keep looking, I crutched across the street to the CCN and played some DD, then had to run to the airport. I probably should have learned SD strategy for the trip, but oh well, I didn't play long.

You and she are right on all counts. Reno is a hole. CCN has a playable game, but the customers are downright nasty and the heat for me was too much. Harrahs is a joke with their 6/5 games. Tahoe is not much better, but Harrahs and Harveys do offer a few 3/2 games, but seem to be pushing the party pit stuff.

Only to those who even know the difference between 3:2 and 6:5. The others don't laugh, they just enjoy the game, the free booze and the extra oxygen.
