The casino opened Monday, October 8th. I stopped in for a quick look.

Blackjack- Eight decks, DOA, DAS, H17, no late surrender. I'm going to assume split 4x and no RSA. Nearly all tables were $25 min. Saw two $15 tables. No CSM's, no 6/5 games. Many slow, inexperienced dealers. Crappy game, but did observe some opportunities for advantage play.

Craps- $15 min. 2x odds. Seriously, 2x odds! They should be ashamed!

Non-smoking (awesome!), Beers around $4 not including tip (cannot comp alcohol). Very nice facility, but located in the ghetto. They should have built the casino in downtown Columbus.

Sounds like yet another reason to avoid Ohio...
PA blackjack rules, (mandated by law: 3:2, S17, late surrender)
no need to play anywhere else.

Correct, no surrender or RSA at Columbus. Have to remember though, MOST bj players think surrender is a bad rule for them

Absolutely. I asked the dealer if surrender was available, and was told no. Another player made the comment "that's good because surrender is a sucker bet."

I'm heading out there to check it out (I used to live there but moved for work recently). I imagine it looks like EVERY OTHER HOLLYWOOD, so I'll be more surprised if it doesn't.

2x odds??? My low opinion of Penn just somewhat sunk lower... I guess they don't want to jeopardize Hollywood Lawrenceburg.

Sounds like the exact rules at Hollywood Charles Town - they must be standard Penn National Rules - esp if there's no competition.

Yet, they still have packed casinos...

I just flew into Columbus for work and stopped at Hollywood Casino...

It looks pretty much like every other new or renovated Hollywood, though the middle bar is called O.H. (with respect to the O-H-I-O chant OSU fans are crazy about). Layouts and payouts are near identical to Toledo (except for the 2x odds, which still floors me. I mean, even VEGAS CET properties offer 3x-4x-5x odds). Most standard carnival poker games are offered, nearly all at $15 minimums, though I did see a few $10 Four Card tables.

The poker room looks huge, and I saw a bunch of people I recognized from Gemini Players Club. It's only a matter of time before either 1) Hollywood goes after the individual clubs or 2) The weight of the competition bears down on the clubs. When it's all said and done, I'd be surprised if 2-3 clubs survive.

I did see 7-5 Bonus Poker on a $1 progressive. I didn't have much of a chance to check out anything else. One thing I did notice though is that aren't a lot of the big community gaming slots that are popular now, i.e. Clue, Deal or No Deal, Leprechaun's Gold. The layout reminds me of Toledo, though it feels like Toledo has more space. One of the pit supervisors I recognized from Toledo felt that Columbus felt bigger to her.

I agree the dealers are mostly new, but they did get some people who transferred, so it's spotty. Procedures (like at Horseshoe) are kind of whatever the dealer wants to do.

Supposedly, the cards for Lawrenceburg, Toledo, Columbus, Grantville PA and Charles Town, WV are now all linked. I opted for that, got Producer status. Then when I asked about comps, they said I had none. They said it may take 24 hours to update though, so I'm not upset yet... well, more than I ever am when I go to a Hollywood property.

Hollywood Columbus claims to have over 200,000 square feet of gaming space. MGM Grand Las Vegas checks in at 171,000, which is the largest in Las Vegas (I think).

I've been to both, and I think MGM Grand's casino is way bigger than Hollywood Columbus. Can anyone confirm the 171,000 square footage for MGM Grand? I suspect it's much bigger than that.

10 people accused of cheating at Columbus casino

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/11/28/casino-indictments.html

I have no idea why anyone would feel the need to cheat at Hollywood Columbus???
The dealers are so incompetent, anyone with a pair of eyes (actually one eye is enough),
and a brain can be an advantage player at this place.

I lived in Columbus for 10 years, so from my perspective this casino's existence seems very strange.

Terrible. But this might surprise you: up until about 5 years ago, most of the major casinos in Reno, NV only offered 2x odds.

Finally made here for a poker tourny. Nice and BIG poker room. The casino itself doesn't look like it is 200,000 sf. Certainly doesn't look bigger than MGM Grand. No luck in the tourny tonite (not much skill either as I missplayed a big hand lol) but my wife called me during break and asked me what 86,000 pennies added up to. I said your the math teacher , you tell me lol. She said your an asshole and hung up. Anyway, she did well. Craps tables were 15 min.(bummer)and they had 4 of them going on a Monday nite.
