Currently our 1 Table Group (used to be 3-Tables in the 2002-07 era) has had a long association with Modiano Cristallo's. Recently, I came across an inexpensive deck made by Cartamundi (ACE 100% Plastic) and asked for a try-out. We have used them since Mid-April, and the issue will come up for a vote Mem. Day Weekend.

personally, I think the Cristallos are too thick and stiff, and these newer ones had a better flex and feel for $6 less per set-up.

Just curious what the rest of the "Poker Club" people here like (or distinctly dislike) about certain Decks/Brands.

Cheers!

Personally, Im a Bicycle man.

At work we use Kem cards for poker. They dont hold up well to even a nights ue, never mind any more than that.

Bicycle it is for me; something tells me that is considered plebeian in more rarefied air.

As long as they aren't the Gemaco Large print, I'm fine with that. A lot of the house games where I live use those, and I don't like them because you have to lift your cards up very high, especially to see the suit of the card. There are some poker rooms that use them, and I wish they wouldn't.

Dealing, I like Bicycle's $8 per pack set. Unfortunately, the cards are easier to mark, so you have to switch them out more regularly.

First choice: Marion.
Second choice: Copag.

Regarding small/large index, two/four color. I understand both sides of the argument so much, that I designed cards that satisfy everyone's desires. Al least I think everyone would be happy with them.

The left corner is the standard small index, two color. Ideal for players that like to squeeze the cards.

I use a four color humongous index in the right corner, so the board can be easily seen from all seats.

I had to flop the face card portraits to make room for the big index, while enabling certain features like the suicide sword and one-eye to still be visible.

Whaddaya think?

When I was at G2E I gave sample pages to several card manufacturers. I told them I don't want any compensation, except maybe a deck or two if they get produced.

We'll see....

No more so than with standard cards.

For what it's worth, I came up with my design in response to Bicycle's "Poker Peek" cards. Compare:
Admin note: removed image www.djteddybear.com/images/high-vis/kh.gif
Every time I look at a Poker Peek card, I say, "What the heck were they thinking?"

Part of my design consideration was that it does NOT affect the way people peek at or squeeze their cards.

I.E. The upper left portion of my design is the same as for standard cards.

When I showed my design to a card manufacturer's rep, I picked up two random cards and squeezed to show what I meant. Can you all tell what card is being squeezed here? This is my point about not changing the left corner.

Yeah, I know. But I often see novices (i.e. the people who would benefit most from my design) confuse the 6 and 9.

Hell, if they spell out 6 and 9 on the craps table, where the points are listed in sequence, then how bad of an idea is it for cards?

Whats the difference between Kem/CoPaq and bicycle?

plastic vs paper?

if so, i've seen 100% plastic playing cards for $3 at walmart.
unfortunately my poker circle disinegrated w/the demise of Online poker :(

I saw those Vegas Brand, and bought 1 deck of the gold and black. The gold is unusable, as its translucent through the card-back when held up to even a moderate light. The black much better. Those are a bit thin, and tend to cling. The Plastic/paper Vegas Brands are garbage with printing defects in nearly every pack, according to others more informed than me.

BTW: The Club approved the Cartamundi's, and we grew from 10 to 14 when we lowered the game to $20 from $30. Running 2 table 6-seat/7-seats nearly every Fri.nite. Although the pot is $20 smaller, the action is better.

Jack of Diamonds.

I'm not sure of your card design stuff, as this is the first I've heard about it, but a great number of the security features involve the back design. I'd almost say more so that the front. Keep that in mind if your seriously taking a whack at getting a design out there.
