Las Vegas Metro is the most corrupt police force and half of their officers should probably be behind bars. How many people have they murdered in the last year?? This cop, Derek Colling, beat this guy because he didn't like being videotaped. Broke his nose, bruised his ribs, tried to break his camera and arrested him for nothing. Now the cop is being investigated but he is still in uniform and working, he should be locked up! In his 5 1/2 year career Derek Colling has killed two people while on the job. Maybe they were justified, I don't know but look at this video...

Look at the story I posted about my friend being pickpocketed Downtown. He was told by Vegas police there were no pickpockets Downtown, yet I found an article written a year before (by a Vegas cop) that was all about how bad the pickpocket situation was at the Fremont Experience. They barely let my friend file a police report and actually accused him of being ripped off in his room by a hooker.

This cop should be in jail, and not working for Las Vegas police, pretty sad some of the scum they have working here..!

Just goes to show you what they can and do get away with everyday. I had one pull his gun on me when he stopped me in a company truck, one block from our shop, for no reason at all.

My hands were out side of the window when he walk over to the truck, I asked him to please take his hand off the gun, and the first thing he said to me was, what are you some kind of wise ass.
No just an old guy that is very uncomfortable with your hand on that gun..!

He never did say why he stopped me, and then gave me a hard time because, I didn't know what year the truck was. Again he asked me if I was trying to be a wise guy when I said I didn't know what year it was, hell I just drove it and put oil and gas in it, because it was after all a work truck..!

That was the first time, I ever had a cop put his hand on their gun when pulling me over, I heard that the cops in Vegas were bad, that's why my hands were out the window.
I was told by a state trooper once, if you want to maybe get away with a ticket, to stick your hands out of the window, smile and ask what you could do for him, if you were stopped.

That way they knew you didn't a threat to them..!

I'm curious as to what authority you had to tell him that. He has all the authority and you have none. One thing you cannot do is try and take over the situation like you're the one in charge, because you aren't. You might not like what he's doing, so what. In order for the police to do their job, there are certain protocol's that must be maintained. Ordering them around isn't one of them.

You'd have to have your own camera, because LVPD doesn't have dash cams.

About 6 years ago, I was in a rental car in Vegas waiting for my wife to come out of the store. I was in the shade of the building, in the fire lane, with the air going full blast. A cop rolled up next to me and said I had to move out of the fire lane. I stupidly said that I saw people parked there all the time, and he calmly replied "Are you sure you want to argue with me about this?" Nope, I said, and immediately moved. Never argue with the cops, it never gets you anywhere.

You're right that it gets you nowhere but Metro has such an attitude. There was no need for him to reply like that, it could even be seen as intimidating. Metro needs to teach officers some customer service skills. Yes, they have a tough job to do but they don't need to be complete assholes while they do it.

Its not just the futile paperwork they want to avoid... they know that in a tourist area there are no pickpockets, luggage thieves or anything else that would offend a potential tourist. Some Mexican cops had a murder in a resort hotel and their solution was that the Canadian woman had been followed through two airports and two sets of passport control, followed thru the surveillance cameras all over the hotel lobby which he somehow avoided and murdered in her hotel room for some unknown reason relating to her life in Canada. There were no murderers at the Mexican resort, only smiling, attentive workers attending to the tourists every desire. And if the cop wants to hold onto his job, you bet that will be his story the next time too.

All touristy areas tend to try to downplay crime statistics in the same fashion that US colleges try to see that arrests are made off-campus. In areas where the economy is dependent upon tourism, crime statistics are kept as inoffensive to tourists as possible. In some areas people are listed as "missing" for a decade and never classified as drowned.

In a major city some two bit pickpocketing event is not worth the paperwork the nutcase wanted to put the cops through. Look at the efforts to which they went to discourage the report. Its useless paperwork. He is never going to get his money or wallet back. Go away and next time be more careful is about all the cops can do for him.

Well, every weekend we shovel up the dead tourists in Vegas and bury them in the desert. Because...(wait for it) what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!

Most people start their jobs with the best hopes and intentions and turn jaded with time, either towards their bosses, their customers, or the system in general. Cops probably have it worse because they deal with the dregs of society every day. Not the Detectives who sleuth out the white-collar crimes, but street cops who get pretty tired of the wife-beaters, drunken back-talkin' tourists and thieves over the years. LA cops didn't develop their corrupt rep overnight, it took years of dealing with the street gangs. Metro's the same way. Cop is weary of the small talk by now and just slaps on the cuffs. Screw the customer service skills....that's for newbs. Cop sees the 37th Ed Hardy-wearin' d-bag carrying a hollow guitar drink crossing against the light on the Strip and get hit by a cab who had the right-of-way, you figure he had it coming for being a drunken idiot. Cop starts to take it personally when some junkie steals chips off the BJ table at O'Sheas right in front of him as he's on his bike, and teaches the junkie a lesson. No time/reason for customer service skills there.

In the case of this video clip in the OP, cop seems amped up on adrenaline after his bust as he's leaving, sees the camera, wonders if he did anything inappropriate during the arrest and decides to check it out. His questions are met with attitude and lies and cop is in too deep to back down. His buddies join in, as they tend to do. Sure, cop took it too far, but I think cameraman here was an idiot whether within his rights to film or not. If you're up in the mountains and encounter a mother grizz and her cubs, do you say "I'm perfectly within my rights to film here" or do you GTFO? Hopefully lesson learned on all sides.

Well with all jokes aside, in the past they have in a sense, it's only been recently that I started see new stories of suicides, where someone has jumped to their death..!

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2011/apr/23/man-dies-jump-strip-casino-parking-garage/

In the past few months I have seen I think two or three stories in the news papers about the suicides, When I was working doing service work on elevator, in one week I saw to jumpers at one of the casinos. One would have hit my van, if it wasn't for the fact that somebody was parked in my parking spot that morning.

There was nothing in the news papers about either one of those, and I hear stories on other jumpers, but did not see them personally!

Then there was all the stories from security, about all the crime, and some of the stupid things that happened the night before to their casino guess. Granted a lot of it was brought on to them self, by being just stupid, with the hookers..!

One of my highrolling buddies was at the craps tables with his best buddy and his girlfriend, when he told his buddies girlfriend to shoot the dice and after he threw her two black chips to bet with, security came to the table and asked her to leave, the three of them couldn't believe what just happened. They always wanted her at the table, because she sure was a distraction to everybody on the table..!

It turned out be an embarrassment for involved, except for the highrollers buddy, All he could say was she does make a good-looking hooker..!
