Once thing I really appreciate about this site is the fact that there are members from all over the place and when someone asks a question about casinos in a certain state someone else usually has some pretty good first-hand information.

So, I was wondering where people are from. If I haven't listed your part of the world specifically then just choose whatever best describes your general location or feel free to tell us where you're from. Perhaps this will give people a chance to meet others in person if they live close enough to one another.

I've set this poll up so that you can choose only one. I was very specific about Vegas/Nevada because I'm interested to know who many members live right in that area.

For starters, Vancouver, Canada.

(By the way, yes, I assumed most live in the US)

Eastern US. Specifically, Northern NJ.

One thing I like about other message boards (JB: Hint, hint...) is that they have Avatars (photos / pictures that appear above the user name), and certain personal info, such as location, appears below it.

Why do you have listings for Midwest and Central? Do you consider them separate areas? For example, states east of the Mississippi are in Central while those west of it are in the Midwest? I've heard some people interchange the terms.

Being from St. Louis, I consider MO, OK, KS, IA, WI, MN, NB, SD, & ND to be in the Midwest, while states east of the Mississippi (but not on the Atlantic coast) are either in the Great Lakes region, Ohio Valley, or the South. Just curious. It's interesting to see what people from other regions consider you to be geographically.

Interestingly enough, I never thought about this until my first trip to Vegas in 1993. While standing in line waiting to check in at the Luxor, my girlfriend & I were talking to the couple in front of us. They were from Texas. When they found out we were from St. Louis, the wife exclaimed "Yankees!". That shocked me so much I nearly replied "No, I'm a Cardinals fan".

Yes, getting full agreement on which states are in what "region" of the US could be difficult. I live in North Carolina (for 3 years now). I voted "Southern States", but since NC is bordered by the Atlantic, some folks might view it as "East Coast (US)", while other folks might think that category implies Delaware northward, or something similar. I guess it's a combination of geography and mindset.

Does someone from Alberta view Ontario as "East Coast (Canada)" or does that category imply the maritime provinces? What divides East/West in Canada? In the US, we at least have the Mississippi as a reference, even though it isn't in the center.

The East/West line in Canada is the Manitoba/Ontario border. This is also nowhere near the center of the country.

I'm from St. Paul, MN. I live about 300 meters from the mighty Mississippi, and I guess technically I'd be on the Great Lakes/Ohio Valley side of the line discussed earlier. I did answer Midwest in the poll, though:-)

I live in Virginia. Since you don't have a mid-Atlantic choice I will vote south.

And East Coast Canada is often used to refer to parts of Canada nowhere near the coast (I don't here Alberta called West Coast much, but then I'm so far West Coast Canada, I'm off it)

(Vancouver Island, BC, that is... which is not part of Vancouver).

After confronting someone for rooting for the Patriots and inquiring as to why they liked them, they replied "Because I'm from New England".

Questions...
1) Am I the only one who finds this ridiculous? Couldn't the same be said of those from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, etc?

2) To those who voted 'Mid-West', do you ever refer to the area you're from as "The Louisianna Purchase"?

3) Can I, with clear conscience, punch them in the noggin for being a dummy?

4) Can I at least punch them for liking the Patriots?

Just outside Atlanta, Georgia. Its a good six hour drive to a real casino. Harrahs Cherokee is two hours away, but doesn't count since it does not have real table games, just electronic.

The difference between zero and the smallest possible number? It doesn't matter; once you cross that edge, it might as well be the difference between zero and 1. The difference between infinity and reality? They are mutually exclusive.

Since I often mention whre I'm from, I'll use this oportunity to clarify exactly where that is.

Mexico City, strictly speaking, is made up of an area called the Federal District, which was carved out of Mexico state shortly after independence. In actual fact, though, it includes a much larger area of several Mexico state counties that cluster around it, what you'd call the metro area in other countries.

I live in one such county, called Huixquilucan, which I think doesn't border the city proper at any point. In any case I'm about 5 miles from the city itself, and my office is within city limits. I used to live in naucalpan, which does border the city, and my house then lay only 600 meters from the city.

Once in a while I'll claim to be from Mexico state, rather than Mexico City, but really it's a difference without distinction in my case. Besides, I was born inside the city, and lived inside it til age 8 anyway.

Off-topic comment: In my area, Harrah's Cherokee is running a TV ad that briefly shows a dealer holding a deck of cards. After seeing that, I had to check their web site to confirm that they still do not have any games that use cards. Seems to me a bit of deceptive advertising.

This is an interesting poll. Being from Colorado, I had to vote 'other' as would most of us from the Rocky Mountain states(Montana/Idaho south to New Mexico).

Pretty good distinctions. Most people can tell the difference between East Coast, Midwest, and Southern. There is some overlap. (Louisville, KY: Midwest or Southern?). Central is a little more ambiguous, but it would include everything west of Minneapolis and before the Rocky Mountains in my estimation. That would include places (like Omaha, Neb. and Kansas City, Mo.) that many people would consider "Midwest."

Suburb of Buffalo, NY. 25 minute drive to Seneca Niagara Casino. Add 10 minutes to get to Casino Niagara, or Fallsview Casino.
