Remington Arms split into two companies, so the Remington that made typewriters in the 1950s and shavers in the 1970s could be considered a descendant company. Similar to Foot Locker and Dicks are descended from Woolworths.

The main character in the film Lost Highway says that he doesn’t like video recorders because he wants to remember things in his own way, “not the way they necessarily happened.”

Which captures how I feel about memory and the Mandela effect.

It's complicated. Foot Locker was a subsidiary of Woolworths, so if you owned stock in Woolworths, you owned stock in Footlocker.
When Woolworths closed, the stock formerly known as Woolworths became Foot Locker. When Dick's and Foot Locker merged, the stock became Dick's. Footlocker is the direct descendant of Woolworths, while Dick's is related through the merger with Footlocker

In the same vein, the company that is now Atari obtained the rights to Intellivision, so the first video game company rivalry wound up coming together through its descendants.

Anyone remember the George Plimpton commercials for Intellivision?

After technology improved beyond Pong games, Mattel produced the Intellivision and tried to position itself in the home video game market with its superior sports games like baseball and football. George Plimpton was the spokesman.

Getting back to the Mandela Effect, one personal memory that is likely true is that on my first-ever flight in 1977, I recall that when the flight attendants did the safety procedure, everyone was intently listening and even laughed when they said the “put the oxygen mask on yourself before putting it on your child” line. Was flying still new to people in the mid- to late’70s?!

I remember the first commercial game console as the Odyssey. Bob McAllister on Wonderama used to give one away to the grand prize winner every week.

I played the Odyssey only in the brief period when stores had demo units. I didn’t know anyone who owned one.

Back then, flying was either a first ever event (as it was for you), or they had not flown in a long time. Also, crashes were more common, so people were more likely to pay attention to the safety announcements. They also didn't have cell phones to distract them.

Also flying was more formal and stewardesses much more engaging then, and they were very good at attracting attention. That's why all the little girls wanted to be one and all the guys wanted to do one. Now they're all like DMV clerks in sweaty polyester, who make sure everybody knows they're unhappy and wish they were doing something else.

I remember when the safety presentation wasn't automated and they would recite and act it out. They usually had the young loud one giving the screed, and the tall graceful one miming it. Everyone smiled when she put the yellow cone mask on her face because she looked like a duck.

Ask anybody how the Wicked Witch addressed the mirror in the classic Snow White movie. Everybody says "Mirror mirror on the wall...". However, she actually says, "Magic mirror on the wall..."

Everyone also seems to believe the Monopoly man wears a monocle. He doesn't.

The "Mirror mirror," on the wall is how I remember it as well. 💡 It doesn't help that a Snow White adaptation film calls the film Mirror Mirror! 🤣💡

About Monopoly, I feel that maybe people got him mixed up with Planters Peanuts Mascot Peanut who does have a monocle or the Demets Turtle Mascot who also has a monocle? 🤔💡 On a side note, Monopoly Mascot is actually named Rich Uncle Pennybags. 🤣💡 A Mandela effect of my own is me thinking his name is Moneybags! 🤣💡

In an airplane at a typical cruising altitude of
35,000 feet, you would pass out from hypoxia within 30 to 60 seconds after a loss of cabin pressure (this is the Time of Useful Consciousness, or TUC). At even higher altitudes, unconsciousness can occur in as little as 6 to 9 seconds.
The speed at which unconsciousness (due to hypoxia, or lack of oxygen) occurs depends heavily on the altitude of the aircraft and the rate of decompression

This is a VERY good post, it's confusing that nobody responded to it until now. One of my biggest regrets in life using money that my Mom lent me purely to get my hair done and gambling and losing it in a Casino. 😬🤦‍♀️ Leading to my Mom understandably kicking my ass when she saw that my hair was not only not done, I gambled and lost the money in a Casino! 😬🤦‍♀️ Worse, I ignored the ,"At least get your hair done first and then go to the Casino with whatever's left," thought that occured to me BEFORE going to the casino. I chose to ignore that reasonable thought and went to the casino instead and LOST! 😬🤦‍♀️

The problem with the Jaws scene is the girl who played the part claims that she never had any metal braces in her mouth at all in any scene yet there are millions of us who remember it. There are thousands of people who have the video in VHS form from the 1980s who've seen it a hundred times and now when they go back and look at it that scene in their own videotape it has disappeared. Poof, it disappeared like it never existed.

Dolly did wear braces. Photo and video evidence reveals truth!

From the article:

'However, at some point in the 1990s or afterwards the braces were removed. Why? The credible explanation is MGM didn't want Jaws to be attracted to a woman with braces because braces are associated with girls under the age of sexual consent. Given the rise of woke issues in modern times it's possible the powers at be thought "this looks a bit weird, a powerful henchman getting it on with a woman that looks innocent so let's remove the braces!"

For MANY years I remembered the lyric for AC/DC Back In Black being,"I'm in a band in a gang," but a lyric video says it's,"I'm in a bang in a gang," which rhyming wise makes more sense. 💡

So it.looks like my original assessment that they filmed and used alternate takes was correct.

The weird thing is there are researched articles where the actual actress claims np braces were used. However this is probably more evidence of faulty memory than anything else.

More likely they shot it without braces most of the time and then in a sudden epiphany, the director added braces for a few shots and so the actress just didn't remember. These things happen especially on long shoots when everyone is tired.

I would say actual VHS video evidence combined with that contemporary professional film review is definitive for me.

However this is just editing and alternate footage. It's a human construction. Nothing supernatural or about living in a simulation about it.

I see why they did that. It's the height difference that accentuates that, and having the braces just makes it look even more like they're talking about the kind of relationship that is also a crime. And we can't have a Bond villain committing any crimes!

Jesus Christ. No. It is an obvious fake.

The clearer "Bluray version" shows no braces
The heavily degraded "normal tracking" version shows apparent braces
The second image has extreme color saturation, reduced resolution, and compression artifacts

The heavy processing disguises tampering:

Compression artifacts can mask edge inconsistencies from digital additions
Color shifts obscure lighting/texture mismatches
Reduced resolution hides pixel-level manipulation evidence
Overall degradation makes it harder to identify what's original vs. altered

God help you people if you can't detect a fake from 2019, we have AI now. Use some common sense.

And the movie reviewer in1978 had failing memory from the night before when he wrote in his contemporary review the woman had braces?

The pristine 35mm review print he saw had reduced resolution and overall degradation?

A better question would be how the reviewer managed to watch a film from the future since it wasn't released until 1979.

The quote in question states "Kiel...even acquires a love interest, a small, voluptuous blonde named Blanche Ravalec. It would be a relationship made in heaven if only she wore braces".

IF ONLY ie she did not wear braces.

No, that is not the quote in question. I don't know where you got your quote but it sounds suspect.

The quote in question is

"Kiel...meets this waif and gives her his aluminum smile and she smiles back. And call her braces galore. She has about as much hardware in her mouth as he does..."

The contemporary news article is linked below. It's second column near the top.

https://img.newspapers.com/img/img?user=605105&id=82412598&clippingId=23613459&width=820&height=1304&crop=2415_2547_1561_2483&rotation=0

So you think this professional film reviewer watched a pristine 35mm film print and the next day had a foggy memory?

No that is obviously the quote in question, you just didn't check it and didn't get the year right, so you switched it for this one when your bluff got called.

Either way it proves nothing other than humans can't remember things properly, as shown in numerous psychological studies proving how easy it is to implant false memories:

The "Lost in the Mall" Study (Loftus & Pickrell, 1995) https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Elizabeth-Loftus/publication/11693702_Lost_in_the_Mall_Misrepresentations_and_Misunderstandings/links/0fcfd50d9dcac0f22f000000/Lost-in-the-Mall-Misrepresentations-and-Misunderstandings.pdf
The Hot Air Balloon Study (Wade et al., 2002) https://link.springer.com/article/10.3758/BF03196318#preview
The Bugs Bunny at Disneyland Study (Braun et al., 2002) https://passmorespsychology.weebly.com/uploads/2/1/6/3/21630508/summary_of_the_study_braun_et_al_memory_4.pdf

We have Charles Champlin's LA Times review, the actress who has repeatedly denied wearing them. All physical evidence shows no braces, the production staff confirm no braces, no other indications from numerous reviews and, of course, the actual film in question.

So yeah obviously it must have been aliens erasing the original footage and not just people confusing logical inference with reality in a well-tested reproducible psychological phenomena. That would be ridiculous.

In How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall? Episode of The Cosby Show Vanessa, Kara, and Janet, all 15 year old teenage girls wear suggestive clothing and dance suggestively for Vanessa's SHOCKED parents, Cliff and Clair. Clair says,"Cover yourselves immediately!" And my Mandela effect remembered the line being,"Put some clothes on immediately!" 💡

No that is DEFINITELY NOT THE QUOTE IN QUESTION.

I was referring to EXACTLY the quote I referred. I didn't switch anything up.

You came up with a quote that you still haven't even linked to so you need to back up whatever cockamamie crap you are citing.

You just are shocked I have the stuff to back it up

Two day old testimony versus 30 year old testimony. Guess which one I am believing.

And stop with the year being off which was an obvious typo. The article is dated correct for when the film came out

There is video evidence. There is the contemporaneous film review. And the film itself is not the evidence because that's the whole argument. That a different outtake was used. Get over it.. There is enough to make any statement about the Mandela affect suspect.

And I never said jack squat about aliens. That's EB. I pointed out this is most likely B-roll footage that was replaced when doing a subsequent video transfer after the VHS version which has the braces.

LMAO! I love how your question is in line of the spirit of this thread! 🤣🤭 But seriously, I am remembering correctly. I have had threads that shot up TREMENDOUSLY in posts and I thought,"Wow, my thread got REALLY popular in a DAY! 😀 Only to see people arguing and the very last post be something like,"Due to the arguing in this thread, I have decided to close the thread." And see a big ,"Closed," sign at the bottom of the thread. ☢️

Nathan, we are not close to shutting this thread down. Congrats on a successful thread. Do you want me to change the title of the thread by removing the word Nelson so that it is just The Mandela Effect?

DougGander: the comment above was uncalled for and was an indirect insult. DarkOz is a well-known long-time forum member who is widely regarded as a "credible, intellectually sophisticated contributor" - just as you are. Please remember that insulting other members is not permitted. I don't understand how a discussion about the Mandela effect in a silly James Bond movie merits this kind of anger. It's fine to disagree but keep the discussion polite (or at least civil.)

Peace.

After Grady Demond Wilson's death, a Poster pointed out that Lamont and Fred Sanford didn't run a Junkyard Business. They actually sold antiques. I and many other people remembered Sanford And Son running a Junkyard Business. 🤔💡 Mandela Effect for ya. 😉

Perhaps I miss the fundamental distinction between "selling antiques" and "junkyard business".

Both operations sell secondhand goods, although one would seem to have a nicer showroom.

When I think of a junkyard, I'm really thinking of an auto scrapyard. I'd say they sold second-hand goods, not antiques.

Electronics junkyards exist now, although under different names. Useful or historic items and parts are extracted and sold; the rest is reclaimed for metal (gold, copper, aluminum) value.

I understand large household appliances ("white goods") also go through a similar process.

I'm fairly certain industrial equipment goes through a junkyard process.
May the cards fall in your favor.

In my Mandela Effect, I remembered Tinsley Grimes being about 7 years OLDER than me but it turns out she's actually 2 months YOUNGER than me! 😱😳 It blows my mind that a Woman I remembered being YEARS OLDER than me is actually slightly YOUNGER than me! 😱😳 Even an actor who played on a show she was a cast member of showed surprise that Tinsley is YOUNGER than she looked. 😱😳

My Mandela Effect was knowing that RuPaul's legal name has Charles in it but I remembered Charles being his first name and RuPaul being his stage name. It turns out that his legal name is RuPaul Charles, so RuPaul isn't his stage name it's his legal name. 💡

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the Jaws girlfriend did in fact have very visible braces. It underscored the immediate mutual attraction of Jaws and Dolly - therefore the only possible explanation is that the scene was shot twice and ultimately the no braces version wound up in the DVD now available.
