What might happen if credit cards were capped at 10%?

I'd imagine the first thing to go would be mileage and reward points. It seems some people depend on them for part of their lifestyle.
Next would be no annual fees. I see a return to the days of $39- $79 annual fees. I can see banks severely pruning their cardholders. It's one thing to extend credit to a person at 30% interest and another to do so at 10%. With fewer people having access to credit cards, alternative lending sources will prosper.
I don't see this happening, as I can't imagine what power the executive branch has to dictate such a policy, but there might be an opportunity in some of the BNPL companies if this comes to pass.
Of course, this will put tens of millions of Americans who can't afford their lifestyle at further risk, but what the heck.

I can’t imagine paying a penny in credit card interest. I’d like to see if a single WoV member pays credit card interest?

Mastercard down around 1.5%. So there might be something that will actually happen.

The latest Bankrate survey says 40% of boomers carry a balance, while 53% of millennials and Gen Z do. 22% of Millennials feel they may never dig their way out of their credit card debt.
I'd be shocked if no WOV member paid interest on a card last year, and even more surprised if any will admit it.
Banking stocks are down because the DOJ is investigating the Fed, threatening a hundred years of independence.

Speaking of comics, which word did marvel trademark for their exclusive publishing use? Superpower, zombie or villain? Answer

zombie however in 1996 marvel lost the trademark because it became impossible to enforce

That's interesting. I know the last of those words is a very old word, that originally did not mean the way we use it now.

As far as the other one, Rod Argent and his band had a claim on that name since the early 1960s.

I would guess over 70% of credit card holders have a monthly balance and pay interest.

I personally have about 10 current credit cards but if they accrue interest i carry no balance. I do have some no interest promotions where I will have a balance.

I got a notice today from Wells Fargo, informing me that my credit score had dropped. Curious, I looked it up, and it had dropped eight points from last month. Unusual because I couldn't think of anything I'd done differently. Then I noticed it had gone up 21 points the month before, jumping from 725 to 746, then settling to 738. The only change I've made was signing up for a new Amazon CC from Chase. The report suggested my score would improve if I made better use of my credit limits.

Opening a credit card does the opposite of making better use of your credit limit. It expands your credit limit without expanding the credit usage. The credit bureaus would like you using around 30% of your credit limit as outstanding debt to maximize scores.

Offhand, I'm sure I have at least $80,000 in credit limits and charge my Amazon, Ebay, and internet purchases each month, so about one percent of my limit. Owing more money would allow me to borrow more. That doesn't work for me.

There have been warnings about credit card purges for years and they come in waves. Cards go out of style and you have to pick a new one. Anyway, Trump's EO's are not law and nobody seems to get that. Credit card companies will likely ignore the ramblings of that man, then what?

In other news, Wells Fargo is raising their minimum balance without fees to $2,000 from $500. They are purging their poorer customers.

I agree 100%, but that is what the creditors want to see. They don't just want people that can borrow money, they actually want them to use it. That improves your credit score and makes you mor attractive to creditors.

I was wondering why my credit score was stagnant around 750 and it turns out I just wasn't using enough credit based on my limits. If you start cancelling cards and lower your limits the credit usage percentage goes up and the score will go up.

I'd expect that to be expressed with two different metrics:

How much of a credit risk are you?

How good of a customer are you likely to be?

The first would be used for the decision to extend credit, and the second for marketing credit products.

Seems miscellaneous enough. I am now a grandfather for the second, and likely last, time. Granddaughter turns 2 tomorrow. Grandson born yesterday.

Mom and baby doing well.

What comes around goes around. I helped train the anesthesiologist who took care of my daughter in law (C Section).

I look at the newborn pictures and what I see is POTENTIAL.

I hope to be around to play a round of golf with him and his sister!

Congrats on the grandkids Soopoo. I have five (and I think my daughters are not planning for anymore) They range from 7 years down to one year old. A great joy when I get to be around them.
link to original post

A great joy to me is my grandkids live on the east coast and I never have to see them. My wife goes to visit by herself which is fine with me. I am not a kid person, they drive me nuts in about 135 seconds. I know lots of men feel this way but they'll never say it because it makes you sound like an ogre. My response is that's what women are for, to raise the children. I have a friend who's 90 now and both his parents were Jewish lawyers in New York City. Him and his sister had to dress up for dinner every night and they were not allowed to speak unless they were spoken to. Which meant dinner was in silence most of the time. My friend had five children and they had a ton of grandchildren but his parents never saw any of them nor did they have any desire to see any of them. And nobody thought that was strange at all.

How sad that you're a bitter old man who doesn't want to see his grandchildren, and sad that you think that "nobody" (which is just you) think it's strange that someone doesn't want to see any of the grandchildren born by their five children.

People like you who hate children in general, especially their own family, often replace them with pets. But then you kill them with neglect. That makes you even more pathetic.

In my ongoing effort to get back to my "fighting weight, I reached a landmark, of sorts, this morning.
I woke up and was in the midst of my morning urination when I glanced down and saw something I have not spotted this century. It wasn't that it was missing in action; I just couldn't see it, as my belly obscured it.
For some reason, while I've dropped two inches on my waistline in recent months, the pounds are't coming off as quickly as before. I'm down 78 pounds from my all-time high, but would like to lose another fifty or so.

Congrats. As best I can tell from your posts you would easily be able to afford a GLP. Why not at least try one? Just like I advised when asked about COVID shots, I can’t guarantee that you’ll have no adverse effects. But I can guarantee that so many other things will improve if you lose those next fifty pounds. And it is just MUCH easier with the meds. Even with a low dose I’d bet ON you to lose another 30 in a year, and 50 in two years.

Don’t blame me for the added costs of a new wardrobe….

I tried Wecovy( sp) two years ago, and after a few days, my stomach felt like it was on fire. I had the same reaction when I tried one of those gut-buster cleanses. My doctor thinks I should try the new pill form when it becomes available, and I'm researching them. One problem with the GLP drugs is it seems like you have to take them for life. Medicare doesn't currently cover those drugs, but they should start in the spring. I think losing weight through a lifestyle change is more effective than one achieved with crash diets and pills. I'd rather lose 20-30 pounds slowly than get stuck on another prescription for life. I've improved my diet over the last year and am headed in the right direction. It's just that a series of nagging injuries has slowed down the exercise part of the equation.
My usual wardrobe these days is a tee shirt and gym shorts so replacing them all would be the cost of a nice steak dinner.

Earlier this summer, a California casino held what they described as a million dollar giveawy- a copy of Action Comics #1, the holy grail of comics.
The problem is the book is currently in my friends hands as the winner wants to sell it. The problem is it is heavily restored and isn't worth anywhere near a million dollars. Any possible sale is on hold as the owner looks into his options. Can the casino announce a million-dollar giveaway but only deliver something worth a fraction of that? Does the casino give a tax form stating the prize was worth a million dollars? If it sells for $400,000, but he owes taxes on the million-dollar valuation, he is screwed.

You put the scale in front of the toilet? That's brilliant! "A pint's a pound, the world around."

That's good work, weight loss is hard. Lots and lots of exercise helps. I've been cycling about 50 miles a week around Vegas, stretching my chain and menacing pedestrians with the momentum of my mesomorphic magnificence. The hills and heat make it strenuous but I figure, if I die I die. And I always carry aspirin to administer in case I see some fat old guy having a heart attack. Even if it's me.

If you want to lose much more, sugar and alcohol will have to go. Sorry, that's just how it is.

I had about six or seven operations while in Las Vegas and I found the medical care acceptable. My orthopedic surgeon was the only one that stood out as outstanding.

A quick-thinking nurse at Spring Valley Hospital saved my life, and the care I recieved after my stroke was amazing. I did have a cardiologist who seemed obsessed with me having sleep apnea in spite of failing all the tests.

Was it neck circumference?

I got issued a CPAP machine about a decade ago. I was told by the person doing the tests that it wasn't medically necessary (I was a marginal case), but due to insurance policy, with neck circumference, they issued the machines in marginal cases.

I slept worse while using the dang thing.

I don't know. He insisted that a CPAP machine would cure my seasonal breathing issues rather than consider alternatives. He got almost hostile when I suggested the timing of my issues seemed pollen-related. He was more into dictating than conversations. Whatever I had, it disappeared when I moved to Bisbee. Neither sad or bitter, you're only off by 100%. Human nature does not seem to be your forte. If I actually was a bitter old person I would be wanting to see the people in my life so I can make them miserable. But that's not true at all because I'm not sad I'm not bitter I'm not resentful I'm actually quite satisfied. Do you have any other sad things to say?

It is a bitter cold 40 degrees here in Southwest Florida where I am at this morning. I think I need to move further south to get away from this misery.

Where is the global warming that I have been promised?

I have a friend smarter than you or me who just sent her pictures from a Caribbean beach.

I had 8:50 tee time this morning, now delayed to 9:35 due to frost! It’s a tad colder up here north of you in The Villages.

Think how cold it would be if not for global warming!?!

It’s 35 as I type this.

Kyrsten Sinema, the former US Senator from Arizona, is being sued for alienation of affection. The wife of her former bodyguard is suing her in North Carolina, claiming Sinema took advantage of the man's mental issues and supplied him with drugs.
According to the lawsuit, Sinema's head of security resigned due to her having sexual affairs with several of her bodyguards. Among her many sins seems to have been attending a Taylor Swift concert and a habit of late-night visits to 24 hour resturants, some of which served Peruvian food.
Sinema chose not to run for reelection after a single term, during which she earned a reputation as an unreliable wild card. She had been trailing in the polls when she announced her decision not to seek reelection.

I just looked at a forecast for Wisconsin.
-35°F wind chills expected when I get back to the house.

We don't really get hurricanes or alligators, so it kind of works out.
May the cards fall in your favor.

It is not news to me that these people who preach to us from their ivory towers live a lifestyle that "goes too far" by Vegas standards.

Ever wonder what a stripper or hooker does on her days off? This, more or less.

global warming studies are based on long term weather trends -
not on short term cold snaps
while it might be fun to mock the global warming pundits it doesn't prove they're wrong
97% + of scientists studying this issue believe that global warming is definitely occurring

from google

"AI Overview

No, very cold weather does not indicate that global warming is false.

While it may seem counterintuitive, extreme cold snaps are consistent with a warming planet. Scientists distinguish between weather (daily, short-term conditions) and climate (long-term, 30+ year trends).
Here is why severe winter weather still occurs in a warming world:

Average Temperatures are Rising: Global warming refers to the increase in the Earth's average surface temperature, not the elimination of winter. 2024 was the warmest year on record, yet temporary, localized cold spells still happen.

The "Polar Vortex" Disruption: Climate change is disrupting the Arctic polar vortex, a ring of strong winds that usually traps cold air over the North Pole. As the Arctic warms faster than the rest of the planet, this jet stream can weaken, allowing frigid, arctic air to plunge southward into lower latitudes such as the U.S.

Evidence for global warming is OVERWHELMING, showing rising global temperatures, melting ice (glaciers, sea ice, ice sheets), rising sea levels, ocean warming and acidification, changes in weather patterns (more extreme heat, droughts, floods, wildfires), and shifts in ecosystems, all linked to increased greenhouse gases from human activities like burning fossil fuels.  Key Indicators of a Warming Planet: Rising Temperatures: Global average surface temperatures have risen, with the last decade being the warmest on record, and the Arctic warming at least twice as fast.  Melting Ice: Glaciers are retreating worldwide, Northern Hemisphere snow cover is decreasing, and ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica are melting at accelerated rates.  Sea Level Rise: Mean sea level has risen significantly due to thermal expansion of warmer water and meltwater from ice, with the rate accelerating in recent decades.  Ocean Changes: Oceans are absorbing excess heat and CO2, leading to increased ocean heat content and surface acidity (more acidic).  Extreme Weather: Increased frequency and intensity of heatwaves, droughts, wildfires, heavy rainfall, and floods are being observed globally.  Ecosystem Shifts: Changes in plant blooming times, bird migration, and species ranges are occurring.  Scientific Basis: Greenhouse Gases: Increased atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide (\(CO_{2}\)) and other gases trap heat, warming the planet like a blanket.  Ice Cores & Tree Rings: Ancient data from ice cores and tree rings show current CO2 levels and warming rates are unprecedented compared to the last 800,000 years.  Human Activity: The consensus among climate scientists (97%+) is that human activities, primarily burning fossil fuels since the Industrial Revolution, are the main cause.

These converging lines of evidence CONFIRM that Earth's climate is rapidly changing, with significant impacts already being felt and projected to worsen. "

it is fun, and many richly deserve it. Crackpots with impractical and sometimes disastrous ideas get free rein if we are to worship them all, with no disrespect being allowed.

furthermore, when the weather is the opposite trend, these same activists all rush to claim it is proof of global warming when, again, it is just weather

there is undeniable proof of global warming
the real question is how severe will the adverse effects be and how soon

there are some crackpots - chicken littles who claim "the sky is falling"

but the vast majority of scientists who support the claim of global warming (again - more than 97% who have weighed in on the issue) are respectable , and are not "crackpots"
