Quote: gordonm888One of Tiger's ankles was crushed. Crushed. As in "broken into little pieces." On his other lower leg, both his fibula and tibia bones suffered compound fractures.
Based on my knowledge, I would say that Tiger will need to walk with a cane. Unless he is given a prosthetic foot.
He very well may spend his senior years in a chair by the fire.
A lot can depend on how hard he works to restore mobility. For instance, scar tissue can stiffen up the area considerably, but constant daily stretching and exercising can break up the scar tissue after about a year and give more flexibility. It's a lot of work though even if that's possible. Not to mention the pain. Not everyone is up to doing it.
There may be other options though, such as future surgery.

Read about Jack Nicklaus life, he was
obsessed with golf from a very early age.
Quote: MDawgI could see myself still playing golf well at 75 or older, but maybe not tennis.
So at least he's involved with a sport where he could keep playing at least on some level even after such an injury.
Problem is some of the others cannot picture themselves playing golf because of their weight and their medical condition and their ability to you stay awake for several hours at a time. LOL.

I can't look at golf as a 'sport'. When
I used to play, walking around on grass
and hitting a little ball with a metal
stick seems a little silly, not like a sport
at all.

Hmm,
Quote:A sport is a physical activity carried out under an agreed set of rules, with a recreational purpose: for competition or self-enjoyment or a combination of these. A game is a recreational activity involving one or more players, defined by a goal that the players try to reach, and some set of rules to play it.
So, I guess Chess is a game unless some punches are thrown.
Of course, moving your hand is a physical activity.
Quote: mcallister3200I don’t consider it a real sport if you’re using a motorized cart. Walking the course qualifies as a sport competition by my definition. NASCAR not a real sport.
You have to be in pretty good shape to run NASCAR.

I’m sure they do and clearly high skill. Violates my motorized vehicle rule. Motocross a similar have to be decent shape and skill but not a “sport” in my opinion.

Well, they are known as "motorsports." And they involve teams. Do you consider horse racing a sport?

What about curling? Right up there
with golf and badminton as 'sports'.

Not really but kind of. The horse is the athlete.

I like curling. Women's anyhow.

Is the America's Cup a sporting trophy?
Quote: AZDuffmanI like curling. Women's anyhow.
I always watch Curling when I see it on TV.
Quote: DRichI always watch Curling when I see it on TV.
I used to do the same, but the game has far too much exposure these days. Same thing with cornhole.
It was fun watching the worlds finest every couple of years, but when it is the semi-finals of a Kansas regional to see who moves on to the next round of 256, I'll pass.

I find it a lot more exciting than watching serials on TV or Netflix.
Turns out it was a fluke

Kinda looks like it.

Crews that race aboard the fastest boats must be ultrafit and train like Olympic athletes to prepare for world-class regattas. “Being an athlete is needed, and sailing is moving that way,” said Ryan West, head of athletic performance for the Bella Mente and American Magic racing programs.

It is a sailing trophy, and was the longest winning streak in history until the Aussies won it in the early 1980s.
Point being that "sports" is a very wide definition. I have heard NASCAR described as "get in your car in a 90F day, blast the heater, blast the radio, then drive at top speed for almost 3 hours!" You have to be in some kind of shape to do all that. Possibly better shape than to stand on a field in hopes some guy hits a ball with a stick.
OTOH, hitting a major league fastball has been described as the hardest single thing to do in sport.
IOW, mororsports is sports. Curling is sports. Poker is on ESPN but not really a sport.
Did Tiger get his mulligan on this accident?
Quote: coilmanWhy didn't the police wait till they had the black box data available to decide if any charges would be laid?
Did Tiger get his mulligan on this accident?
I think if he was a ‘regular’ person in the same situation they are not charging a seriously injured driver in a single car accident with anything other than a minor driving infraction, like speeding or some such. They aren’t looking for ‘black box data’ If they felt he was impaired it would be different.
If he was NOT injured then it is possible they would look into it further.....
Just my two cents....
Quote: ChumpChangeDo people get charged money to have their wrecked car hauled away, because I didn't see AAA show up?
It's a potential crime scene so I imagine it was impounded. IN NY, you would get charged an impound fee, storage fees, release fees, and parking and sales tax.

He can pay it from his $900 million
net worth..
I don't get this. He did not die. He is not in intensive care clinging to life. He was in an accident that he probably caused. While this might well be career-ending, we do not know that yet.
Discuss.
The first was when he hit a fire hydrant, while trying to escape his wife and a nine iron.
The second was in 2017 when he was arrested for DUI with five drugs in his system.
"The report says the five different drugs that were traced in his system were: Hydrocodone, an opioid pain medication; Hydromorphone, another type of painkiller; Alprazolam, an anxiety drug also under the brand name Xanax; Zolpidem, a sleep drug also under the brand name Ambien; and Delta-9 carboxy THC, which is found in marijuana."
Now this.
"Tiger Woods reportedly almost smashed into TV director’s car before crash"
Give him the same privacy you would desire.

He is a public figure with a history of behaving badly. If he wants privacy he should not sign endorsement deals, just be the pro at some golf course.

We want to show solidarity for the recovery of a fellow colleague may have been what they were actually aiming for. But it ended up as "to honor". Someone was inarticulate at the moment of announcement. That's my guess. Now it's kind of awkward to retract.

I had a free pass to an LPGA stop once. Big sponsor tent where you filled up with goodies. The rest was a waste. I was raining which made it worse, but I cannot imagine paying to get in.
And less expensive.
Quote: billryanI worked the first US Open that was held at Bethpage. Although I was kept very busy during the tournament, I got to watch a lot of the practice rounds. The worst of the players would routinely make shots most of us can only dream about.
Not surprising, considering that just to be eligible for qualifying, you need a Handicap Index of 1.4 or lower. ("The Quick Version": assuming you play only on courses with a Slope of 113, the average of your eight best scores (in terms of how many strokes over the course rating you shot) out of your 20 most recent rounds has to be 1.4 or lower).

I remember an article in WSJ probably late 1990s. It was about just average to bad golfers who somehow lied their way into regional, sectional, or whatever the first elimination round for the US Open is. In a polite way it said do not come back for several years, I forget exactly, and before you do you had to show acceptable results of tournament play. When asked why he bothered trying one guy said to the effect he tried out for the US Open and that was the experience of a lifetime for him and he could care less about the PGA sending such a letter.

movies just kind of went away.

I think golf itself kind of declined starting in the mid-2000s. As if lots of people tried it for awhile and decided they will never be even average so found other hobbies. I still have my clubs but have not used them in over 15 years. Really I should put them on craigslist and be done with it all.

If the clubs are that old don't expect to get much for them. The bag may be worth more than the clubs.
Quote: DRichIf the clubs are that old don't expect to get much for them. The bag may be worth more than the clubs.
I know the money is in both the bag and the airline bag. The bag is old but kind of nice. the airline bag is in perfect shape. The clubs are just Service Merchandise I do not even remember the brand. I bought them when I was in management hoping to have some old course meetings. Once I did get to play with a NYS Assemblyman. Hopefully I get 450 for all three plus assorted gold balls I still have.
At a garage sale in Rochester they had some clubs for $10. I ask the kid if he will take $8. He says "it says $10." I say "I can see that, I want to know if you take $8." He asks mommy and daddy and takes $8. I bought them as a "guest set" and used them once that way in Myrtle Beach for my dad. Sold them in AZ for like $15. Not a bad deal.
