How bad is your health to begin with?

There’s ways to lose 10 pounds in two weeks that aren’t a health risk at all , unless you have underlying health issues already.

Fasting or dehydrating (temporarily), can be unpleasant.

I bet even if you just ramped up your daily workouts to maybe double the daily calorie burn you’ve been doing , and reduced your daily calorie intake by 30%, and kept to it daily for two weeks, that you’d be pretty close to 10 pounds down.

Limb amputation for the purpose of winning the wager would surely be 'weight reduction surgery' . I guess the struggle would be proving intent.

Interesting... I'd consider liposuction to be a weight reduction surgery, same with any operation to downsize a body, such as skin reduction or breast reduction. I'd forgive circumcision or pre-scheduled blood donation. Removal of a tumour or necrotic limb to save life would be forgiven as just part of 'essential maintenance'. Lopping his leg off would be call for a stewards' enquiry.

Fact is, PG and I are unlikely to fall out over his tactics. I trust him completely and will nuke his a55 if he wins cheats.

"Weight reduction surgery" is used to describe a specific small number of stomach altering surgeries, the most common now being the 'gastric sleeve'. Medically, many surgeries will of course result in weight loss but are not deemed 'weight reduction' surgeries.

Frankly, PG, I am both proud and disappointed in you at the same time. I can't imagine getting to where you have and NOT finishing it off to win the bet! Ten pounds in two weeks is extremely easy. As DRich noted, people lose ten pounds in a day temporarily! I think the athletes who participate in high level MMA do more than that.

But the 30+ pounds you have lost is GREAT! I'll add some incentive for you...... If you change your mind and meet the challenge I will throw in a free meal for you at the Heart Attack Grill in Vegas......

Ten pounds in two weeks is extremely easy.

First a confession: I have only tried to lose weight once in my life (>15 years ago), succeeded, then managed to regain it over the next six months or so, which means I have little or nothing to contribute to the discussion. However, I suspect that "Ten pounds in two weeks is extremely easy" is much more relevant to someone who hasn't just recently lost 32 pounds.

I would think to lose 10 pounds in a day or two would require some pretty extreme dehydration.
I have recently lost right at 50 pounds since June of this year with the first 15 taking 2 months. I started at an all time high of 260. It was slow at first due to developing an understanding of what truly is required to lose weight.
What I've learned comes down to something very basic. It's all about calories in vs out. I determined that a maintenance requirement for me at 250 and 6'-2" with my activity level was 2200 calories. I lost 10 pounds while figuring this out.
Then I spent a month playing around with calorie reduction and subsequent weight loss results. Lo and behold the 3500 calories per pound is a real thing. Water and salt intake can really mess with results but with consistent consumption of those 2 items you can really dial it in and see how it all comes down to calories.
So what really needs to happen in order to lose real weight permanently is figure out what your base calorie requirement is with your activity level. Then you don't want to destroy your metabolism by sending your body into starvation mode. Although if you do that initially the results will seem impressive but definitely not permanent or sustainable.
I settled on a 1/3 total deficit aiming for about 1400 calories per day and started rolling with it. It is important to account for oils, butters, dressings, and gravies. Understanding what a portion size truly looks like is really important as well. It takes a week of actual measuring to get good at this. I would say it is impossible to estimate with any accuracy without spending the disciplined week of actual physical measurements of all things you normally consume.
As the weight comes off you have to adjust to keep seeing results along the way to the goal. I am currently at 1900 maintenance calories (210 lbs) and consuming the same 1400 calories per day. This has caused a slowdown in results. But I seem to function best at that 1400 level without feeling like I'm giving up or missing out on anything.
I do like to do a one meal a day thing once or twice a week just to keep my body from getting complacent. On those days I am consuming about 700 or so calories. Which is fine and it actually seems to show real results.
I screwed around with diets and what not at various times in my life. But I never really spent time to understand what was actually going on and truly required to get and maintain results. Turns out not much.
What you eat for overall health and well being is a totally different subject in my opinion. Has nothing to do with weight loss or body weight.

I agree with Max, with the addition that realising that some foods are just Calories for Calories sake and excluding them, is the easiest low hanging fruit: Slash Sugar, Cakes, Cookies, Soda, Alcohol :( , Pizza, Pies, Wife's leftovers etc and fill your 8" plate with unlimited green stuff and almost anything with great flavour and texture. Everything else in moderation.

The two goals are NOT mutually exclusive! Your success to date is 'real' weight loss. To win the bet you would just need to add a touch of 'non-sustainable' weight loss. I guess I'm more competitive than you. I once beat a supervising physician of mine in a month long weight loss challenge. I was just a bit overweight, and he was obese. I ate one meal a day for the month, and dehydrated for the weigh in. I won by a pound or two. Of course I put all the weight back on as soon as I reverted to my generally poor diet. My recollection was that I lost 20+ pounds, but don't remember the exact number.

LOL. I sort of agree. I once won a bottle of whiskey in a weight loss challenge by unexpectedly stripping to my boxers for the final weigh in. 10lb in a couple of weeks is not a tough challenge on a Dioralyte diet.
But Kudos to PG for his progress so far and his honourable concession.... I have given him one last chance to un-concede

Scrolling back a bit. But being unable to go 24 hours without eating is a bit like not being able to walk up a few stairs or go a couple days without sexual release. It really shouldn't be very difficult. On a given day, you might run into low blood sugar or something, but most days it's no big deal.

Setting aside the benifits of fasting, I'd suggest doing it just to realize some self control and prove to yourself that you can. Even if you never do it again, you'll see that you can control your appetites instead of the other way around. It's a point of reference.

I agree 100%. I believe anyone should be able to achieve realistic goals if they really want to. It is all mental.
At my age, a "Life In Prison" sentence is not much of a deterrent.

One of my workers claims he went from over 350 to 250 in two years by only eating from 11am to 8pm. He says he didn't change his eating style much, just would fast 15 hours a day. He also drinks a pint of water before and after each meal.
I've put on some weight since I moved from Vegas, and plan on getting back on the program right after Christmas.
The difference between fiction and reality is that fiction is supposed to make sense.

The 9 hour window for eating is a great plan. Just add 'no calories from liquids' and the weight will come off.
