Quote: AZDuffmanNo such thing as a "living constitution." The Constitution is a contract between the government and its people. Contracts do not change because someone feels like changing them. Their meaning stays the same until an official change is made.
In case you did not notice, the bans slavery.
"Their meaning stays the same until an official change is made." That's BS. The SC just ruled a giant 90 year cross didn't represent a particular religion when it was erected in a graveyard. Freaking A, I've never seen atheists, jews , or any other religion erect a Christian cross to represent a memorial. Ever.
Jews had filed suit on that memorial. But they lost. Origin has meaning when it serves conservatives interests.

But they would not have mattered no matter what. You just did not know.
There might come a day when 3 EC votes matter? Uh, do you not remember 2000 and when 3 EC votes saved us from an Algore admin?

Nothing in the Constitution says anything religious is prohibited. Intent was there would be no state religion, as there was in England at the time. Haters love the "shall not establish" but forget the "nor shall prevent the free exercise thereof" part. This clause was not made to deny religious groups access to the same government property the model railroad club gets. But we bad to fight for that one at SCOTUS in the 1990s.
Quit acting like a vampire, a cross in a cemetery is not repressing you.

Not a bad argument, but my rebuttal is similar to the concept of, "your right to swing your fist ends at my nose". The free exercise of your religion ends with your imposition of your religious symbols on govt property, which is by definition owned by all of us.
"All of us" includes atheist, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and other beliefs. A model railroad club doesn't espouse a religious belief: it celebrates a past and present method of transportation. No belief required. No exclusionary precepts. No thought police.

Wrong.
The court has found religious symbolism to represent state religion and even with this stupid ruling they still upheld that principle, because they say this is a war memorial, or peace cross which is sadly hilarious.
If you walked a dozen Christians around Arlington National cemetery where grave markers have various symbols, I have no doubt the crosses on the many of markers would get a "Christian" designation from them, because that's what it is on the marker.
But show them a 40 foot representation of the same symbol, and they can't see it any longer. Leastwise SCOTUS majority can't.
Of course, I'm talking to someone who thinks a cake maker is suffering mighty repression to make a cake with two grooms on the top. About as snowflakey as they come,
Quote: rxwineSpeaking of Arlington, every individual grave does get the freedom to represent their religion. However, even though some group would probably erect 100 ft Jesus statue at the entrance, that shouldn't be allowed.

No, you are talking to someone who believes someone should be able to say, "I do not want that kind of business" if they so choose. Nothing to do with "suffering." Just not wanting that business.

Probably the funniest thing you have ever said in an incredible record of saying funny things.
And CNN’s ratings show how little the public accepts them. Take out the airport viewers and they their own Forensic Files on Headline News beats them.
Need ratings proof or doesn’t that matter to you?
So you don't like CNN
Why do you watch so much CNN??????????
I don't have the foggiest idea what Fox reports. They could say Trump is the best thing since sliced bread. I could care less.
I certainly don't complain about fox because I have no idea what they are reporting
Its so weird how much CNN conservatives watch.
The only way you can have a real opinion on CNN is to watch a ton of CNN
I watch CNN sometimes. Very LEGIT. I like Anderson Cooper. One of the few journalists to take on scientology. Go Anderson.
I don't watch Fox so cant complain about Fox
Will be watching CNN Sunday night 9pm. Should be a pretty good show. Apollo 11. New footage just discovered. Should be a good documentary. Go CNN

Took the CNN tour back in the day. Was following around the Grateful Dead back in the day. The were playing at the old Omni, right next door to CNN center. Decided to take the tour. Pretty neat facility

All kinds of symbols are put on government property. Obama flew the gay flag on government property. I do not care for that, but I am not making a literal federal case out of it. We are talking about a memorial for crying out loud, not about putting crosses at every USPS branch. What we really have is another case of those who preach "tolerance" refusing to practice it themselves.
Those that want a totally secular, atheist government should check out China. Or ask someone who lived in the USSR.
Quote:"All of us" includes atheist, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and other beliefs. A model railroad club doesn't espouse a religious belief: it celebrates a past and present method of transportation. No belief required. No exclusionary precepts. No thought police.
The club thing is a different kind of issue that I threw in to show other SCOTUS rulings. But since you brought it up, here is the thing there. A religious club, and we will leave the type generic for discussion, pays the same taxes as anyone else. The issue was IIRC involving schools but could also be the public library or such. If the school offers rooms for clubs to meet, there is nothing "establishing" a religion if said club signs up for a room same as the model RR club. Nobody is being forced to go, and no resources are being used that would not be used otherwise. So they have the same right to facilities.
Sadly some busybodies in schools have even tried to ban students from quietly reading bibles off to themselves citing "separation of church and state." The fight for our rights never ends.

That is pretty crazy. It is a clear result of Trump calling our press and out constitutional rights the enemy. Trump wants these violent attacks against our country, our people, our constitution, and our way of life. And he has plenty of supporters who will follow through for their leader.

I or anyone else who knows the first thing about Bergdorf could have and would have guessed that. Republicans believed Juanita Broaddrick. The new rape allegation against Trump is more credible.

The Donald has over a dozen accusers. I don't think anyone in their right mind would trust their wife or daughter with a guy who has a dozen accusers even that's all the proof they had. Nor would they hire a baby sitter who had a more than a dozen accusations of child molestation without any other proof. Nor would they likely hire a maid to clean their house who had over a dozen accusations of theft in their recommendations.
But, oh no, Don is innocent! Who is acting the fool here? The same people who would get shot on 5th ave. by Don and still vote for him obviously.
(for the sake of argument we'll assume your wife or daughter is not an ugly smelly warty witch)
