I picked up a pre-seasoned 1.5lb Tri-tip roast.
After letting it sit for an hour, I tossed some butter in a frying pan and seared the meat for eight minutes on high, flipping every two minutes.
I tossed it in the preheated broiler for another eight minutes, and the results were near perfect. Both ends were cooked to perfection, and the centerpiece I sliced up and seared for thirty seconds per side. Toss in a few potato wedges with a dollop of garlic parmesan sauce and some frozen buttery corn, and it's a heck of a meal. That was dinner, and lunch today was sliced tri-tip, lettuce and tomato on an onion roll with spicy aioli sauce. There is enough left to make a nice steak salad for dinner. Three nice meals for about $25, with minimal cooking and cleanup involved .

Wednesday 4/16: a Costco protein bar and a cup of coffee for breakfast, a couple of hot dogs wrapped only in spinach leaves for lunch, and some diced ham, turkey, and Jarlsberg cheese in a tortilla folded like a crepe for dinner.

Thursday 4/17: same breakfast, but a couple of tins (for lack of a better word for it) of yogurt for lunch, and some mac & cheese for dinner.
There's a reason there's no meat in this one; it's "Linda McCartney Memorial Day" (she died on April 17, 1998).

Shrimp (with cocktail sauce), and some gelatin dessert.

Some days, I use some 57, some days, Texas Pete hot sauce. Actually splashing cocktail sauce on the plate for dunking is unusual for me.

The gelatin seems to be helping my banged up knee feel better, although it could just be a placebo effect. Still, relief is relief, and I'll take it.

What I didn't eat today was a can of Wendy's chili with beans on price is right today. Price listed on West Coast was 5.49. last time I had Wendy's chili was at the restaurant and it was less than 5.49. seems pricey. Other brands like skyline, Hormel and Campbell's pretty sure are cheaper. Guess I am just cheap. And a picture because I know a certain person on this thread likes photos.

6 bucks is the regular price for a can of chili? Where the heck do you live. In West Michigan at Walmart it's $4.42

Why would anybody avoid Walmart. Same exact products for a much lower price. I don't I don't get it. You want to pay a higher price for the same products just to avoid buying at Walmart. Okie dokie artichokie

It depends on the particular Walmart, and the individual going. All of the ones in Vegas are on the list of places I do not go without a gun, and not everyone is prepared to ride like that.

And even so, when you are in an incident like that once you pull that trigger your life has changed, and you will wish you had gone somewhere else that day. If there was another place I could go and get whatever I needed, pay a little more, and be certain I wouldn't be confronted with anything that bad, I would go there instead.

I just used Walmart as an example. If the other grocery stores in my area it's about the same price but around $4.50. If the Walmart in Vegas is so crime ridden how come I can't find anything in the news about it. I Googled it and didn't come up with anything like shootouts at Las Vegas Walmart.

Shootings in Vegas aren’t necessarily newsworthy. You probably won’t hear about it unless someone’s head gets blown off and lands in a shopping cart. ‘Cause that’s 3 points for a basket and they do track sports.

I'm reading literally hundreds of comments from people about Walmart's in Vegas being safe and how they've gone to them for years and never felt unsafe. Yet you're seeming to claim that they're the old west shooting playgrounds. I wonder who I should believe here, it's very puzzling.

In all my years on a boat, I have never had to deploy my PFDs or fire extinguishers, yet I have never let port without both and would be called a dangerous lunatic had I.

There's a lot of space in between a place being "safe" and deadly violence being everyday, and Walmarts are in that space. When I go there I frequently see disturbed and belligerent people, with signs of addiction. Sometimes I have seen disputes in the store, other times confrontations and acts of intimidation in the parking lot. If I expected that I was going to need a gun at some place, I wouldn't go there. The guns are for the situations I didn't expect.

The other retail environment that's surprisingly dangerous is a gas station. All kinds of things happen at gas stations that don't make the news because they are routine.

The produce at Walmart is also better than you would expect. Not really that cheap though.

Yesterday, I whipped up a dozen Red Lobster Cheddar biscuits, but I hacked the recipe by using cinnamon-apple butter. They were tasty, but I think I'll stick with the original recipe.
I finished them off for breakfast with whipped cream.

We had the stereotypical ham for Easter dinner.

It was a beautiful 88 degrees here and we enjoyed sitting outside.

No, I was at my mothers house for Easter dinner. These canals are not noisy at all at most people are seniors and probably only use their boats a few times a year. This area is full of canals so they are just common backyard amenities. Most canals are dead ends so there is almost no through traffic just the people that live on your block. If you look at this map you will see more canals than streets. The grayish blue is the canals.

Nice. I lived on a lagoon in Fort Lauderdale, and they were much quieter than I'd expected. The only issue was we would have street flooding and the road was impassable during a monsoon. Twenty minutes later, everything was dry.

As I was leaving the casino at sunrise yesterday, the radio was playing Kokomo by The Beach Boys and by the time I got to the traffic light to leave the grounds of the casino my radar detector went off with a Laser Alert. This has happened before in the same spot. Am I driving too fast to get out of there? Is the casino using a license plate scanner on my car as I leave? When I get on or off the nearby toll road, I get another Laser Alert but it's not always but often enough. It was also raining so hard a few miles away I should have checked the weather radar for hail warnings before I left the casino.

Anyway, I went to McDonalds and got the 2 for $5 Mix and Match sandwiches for breakfast and my radio cutout while I was in the drive-through because the radio lost the satellite signal next to the north side of the building.

Google: McDonald's offers a 2 for $5 deal on select breakfast sandwiches, including Sausage McMuffin with Egg, Sausage Egg & Cheese McGriddles, and Crispy Chicken Biscuit. This deal is often valid for a limited time, and you may need to download the McDonald's app and register to take advantage of it.

So I had the McMuffin and the McGriddle, and I didn't need the app.

(abbreviated!)

I see a lot of places installing "Flock" cameras, both on public roads and private parking lots. I know they are primarily for LPR capture, but some models can apparently get speeds.

If you're getting a laser alert regularly in the same place, it would not surprise me to learn that it is from a permanently installed speed detector. I haven't scouted any casinos in your neighborhood since Flock started getting ubiquitous, so I don't know what you're up against.

Traffic tickets are -EV, especially if you know exactly where you're being watched.

Google: LPR (License Plate Recognition)
AI-Powered Software:
LPR systems use advanced software, often with artificial intelligence (AI), to identify and extract the characters and numbers on a license plate.
Real-Time Alerts and Integration:
Some LPR systems can provide real-time alerts when specific vehicles are detected, and they can also be integrated with other security systems.
Versatility:
LPR systems are used in various applications, including parking management, vehicle access control, law enforcement, and security monitoring.
How LPR Systems Work:
Image Capture: The LPR camera captures an image of the license plate.
Plate Recognition: The AI-powered software processes the image to identify and read the characters and numbers on the license plate.
Data Storage and Analysis: The extracted license plate information can be stored in a database, used for comparison with other databases, or used to trigger alerts or actions.
Benefits of LPR:
Enhanced Security:
LPR can help identify vehicles of interest and prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
Improved Efficiency:
LPR can automate parking permit verification, reduce the need for manual entry, and streamline vehicle management.
Data Collection:
LPR systems can provide valuable data for traffic analysis, security investigations, and other purposes.
LPR vs. LPC (License Plate Capture):
While LPR involves both capturing images and reading plates, LPC (License Plate Capture) focuses on capturing clear images of plates, primarily for later review by a human. LPC cameras are often used for situations where automatic recognition is not necessary, such as capturing plates for a parking lot or entry/exit point.
*********************
So the traffic light is about a quarter mile from the casino but it's still part of the parking lot system. I don't know where the camera is but a quarter mile seems a bit faraway to be reading plates but I could be wrong. Maybe it's on the traffic light. A speed camera? Damn, I was going 23 in a 15 zone, uh oh.

I can say that I didn't eat the shrimp I was planning on today. They smelled a bit strongly, and after half a taste of one, I noped out.

I did make a ham and cheese sandwich a bit later. It was OK. Definitely looking forward to buying some better bread tomorrow; the rolls I have are a bit stale and disappointing.

I picked up four pool-ball-sized meatballs from a food truck and reheated them with some toasted garlic bread and a healthy portion of Parmesan cheese.

Panda Express, and an unfortunate fortune cookie - it had no message inside.

The broccoli beef was ok. The rest was mediocrity in styrofoam.

Decades to go I had a dinner party where I served Chinese food and I bought a bag of fortune cookies and with tweezers I pulled the fortunes out and made personalized fortunes for the guests on my typewriter. It was a big success, it took them a minute to figure out what I had done.

As usual no picture so I'm guessing they had to look like this

Beef with mushrooms, rice.
Exquisite.

So very glad that the Cantonese aunties are back running their food hall stall.

Wish I could eat rice, stuff is 100% carb and balloons me up like I'm ready for Thanksgiving Day Parade. I loved to make chicken rice pilaf, or 100 other things.

Yesterday was anniversary. Wifey picked a previously untested Italian restaurant. Antipasto was good. LOTS of good olives, hams, cheeses, artichokes. Dinner came with soup. I had cream of broccoli. Wifey pasta fagioli fagioli. Both good.
I tried veal piccata. Bad quality veal. I also think they added food starch to the sauce. Oh well
Wifey had pasta carbonara. It was GREAT. Perfect thickness to the sauce. Gazillion chunks of ham. Plus plenty of garlic.
I just ate her leftover carbonara for dinner tonight. It’s one of the advantages of having a wife that eats very little.

Probably would have been an interesting meal to take a picture of too bad you never mastered how to use that on your phone. Descriptions of food are practically meaningless without pictures. This is why most cookbooks will have a picture of the food so you know what it's supposed to look like when you're done. Even the old cookbooks before pictures often had drawings of the food.

Jimmy John's. I splurged a bit, and ordered a 16" sub with chips and a drink. I regretted the chips midway through; I should have gotten a pickle instead.

The sandwich itself prominently featured onion and oregano. It was a little light on the oil & vinegar dressing, and really would have benefitted from an extra tomato slice or two.

Every chain sandwich shop seems to feature a "long" sandwich. Subway has their footlong, JJ & Milio's have their 16 inch, and I haven't been to Blimpie recently enough to recall. They have pictures on signage.

They're all lies. They deliver you two puny halves of a sandwich, not one comically large unwieldy sandwich like they advertise.

I'm putting this here in case any of you fine people own a sandwich shop franchise. Take the extra moment and ask your customer if they want their absurdly sized sandwich order mutilated into two or three lesser pieces for easy handling. You can't un-ring the sandwich chopping bell, and some people would feel uncomfortable demanding the sandwich they ordered be remade as ordered just to appease some bizarre mental hangup they're afflicted with.

I have a whole separate rant about toasting, but today's sandwich wasn't toasted, so it seems out of place.

A regularly sized sandwich would almost certainly have been enough.

I told you on this forum about my one and only trip to Subway where I ordered a guacamole footlong and it looked absolutely nothing like the big picture of it they had on the wall. They gave it to me and I opened it and I said this is that sandwich, pointing up to the wall. The girl shrugs her shoulders and I called the manager out and he said nobody ever complains. I said that's because people are idiots I want a refund. He said you can't have a refund but you can have a free sandwich so he gave me another sandwich. Never been back. Absolutely false advertising.
